About me

Hello – thank you for visiting my profile.

I have been using Hypnosis to help people with their health concerns for many years – both while I was working as a doctor, and since my retirement- as a Clinical Hypnotherapist. Using Hypnosis makes the process of change much more enjoyable, relaxing and easier.
Why not make your New Year resolutions a solid reality in 2025 – contact me and see how I can help you achieve this. In particular, I do enjoy helping people to become non-smokers. Many hypnotherapist do not particularly enjoy this work– but I really do– It has the most profound effect not only on a persons physical health but on their confidence and self-esteem.

I have a particular interest in using Hypnosis to help individuals to live a full and enjoyable life in spite of sometimes complex issues. These include individuals with FND (Functional Neurological Disorder) and ADHD. I enjoy helping people to develop a healthy curiosity about their minds, brains and body and their ability to influence their health and experience positively across-the-board.

I see clients referred from Maggie’s cancer Centre in Edinburgh and the Marie Curie Hospice and community service, but most of my referrals are self referrals and word-of-mouth.

I'm able to help people who suffer from phobias – even those which are long-term. One recent patient had a difficulty with fear of lifts and made a very good recovery. Anxiety related to driving/driving lessons/driving tests also responds well to Hypnosis.

I do hypnotherapy both virtually and face-to-face. (face-to-face is in Harmony 10 Joppa Road Edinburgh EH15 2EU).

** I am very pleased to say that I am now working with experienced colleagues in a new venture called Clinical Hypnotherapy Chambers. We are all clinicians (psychologist doctors and nurses and we have a very broad range of experience and expertise. This means that we can offer the most appropriate clinician to see you – balancing areas of interest and experience and availability of appointments.

Here is the Chambers website. You can read more about us there.

Training, qualifications & experience

I qualified in medicine in 1977. I first qualified in Hypnosis in 1982. Since then I have done various trainings with the British Society of Clinical and Academic Hypnosis (BSCAH); A medical diploma with the London College of Clinical Hypnosis, and strategic therapy with Dr Michael Yapko amongst others. I am accredited with BSCAH, which is the only organisation UK wide which only trains health professionals in Hypnosis. We believe that it is important to seek out treatment from a professional who is clinically trained (as a doctor, dentist, nurse, psychologist etc prior to undertaking the hypnosis training) –so that hypnosis is used as an adjunct to other established treatments rather than something completely separate.

I am a trustee of the British Society of Clinical and Academic Hypnosis, and I am the Honorary Secretary of the charity.

As a tutor for BSCAH, I teach health professionals (doctors, dentists, psychologists, nurses etc) to use hypnosis within their clinical work – This is stimulating and exciting. Hypnosis is becoming more and more acceptable within environments (especially anaesthesia and dentistry) because of more favourable outcomes e.g. pain relief, less anxiety, shorter recovery times et cetera
