About me

Welcome to my profile. I am a fully qualified, caring hypnotherapist and a graduate from the award winning (2006 and 2009), Royal Berkshire College of Clinical Hypnotherapy. I have now been working as a hypnotherapist for 13 years from my own therapy room in a quiet confidential location.

I am also a Member of The Association for Professional Hypnosis and Psychotherapy and work to a very high ethical standard. I come to hypnotherapy from a background of many years teaching in an FE college.

How Hypnotherapy can help me

As a hypnotherapist I work with clients to help them manage a range of problems including:

  • anger management
  • anxiety and stress
  • building confidence, raising self esteem
  • exam and driving test
  • fears and phobias
  • hypnobirthing
  • insomnia
  • panic attacks
  • public speaking
  • stopping smoking
  • weight management

What to expect in your first session

The first session will always start with taking a personal history. How you got to where you are now. What the problem is, and what the goal of hypnotherapy sessions would be. The session will end with hypnosis. In the first session the hypnosis might be focussed on, releasing stress and anxiety, or learning a coping strategy to deal with an anxiety making situation.  Anyone can be hypnotised. The client does not give up control. The hypnotic part of the session can be recorded on mob/tablets. Clients can take this personalised recording with them to listen to as often as required.

Working with children and teenagers

I enjoy working with children and teenagers as well as adults. I usually keep sessions with children to 50 minutes and happy to have the parent/supporting adult present.  This works well as the parent can see how I work with the child, and then support/reinforce work done. Generally when working with children, two or three sessions are all that is needed. I have had some good success with various children's problems and unwanted habits, such as thumb sucking, fear of dogs, anxiety about school and exams.

Recent feedback from mother of a 6 year old fearful of being in his own room:

"I just want to let you know that Xxxxxxxx is happily playing in his room on his own. This weekend he woke up earlier and was able to wait until 6 am to call me.

He is using the magic words. The tapping didn't stick much with him yet. He is also teaching the magical words to his friends and some parents are asking me which book you got this from lol. I said they need to see you first.

Thank you so much Ann."

Further feedback on child's fear of dogs:

"We have had a wonderful summer full of family bikerides!! We have been to his feared ****** on foot and on our bikes. This has meant we have encountered lots of dogs on and off leads. If has been amazing and I'm so proud of him! I know he is sometimes still nervous but he is coping so well and enjoying being out and about!

Thank you so much for your help and for giving me my happy little boy back! I'm sure we still have a way to go with some things but we have the tools now, and he knows he can do it!"

For hypnobirthing, I offer a package of two to three sessions, which are offered at a cheaper rate of £50 per hour. I work with the expectant mother through a package, and help them get into a positive mindset ready for the birth. (This includes accepting the need for medical intervention should it become necessary.)

I offer a free, no obligation initial consultation, which takes about half an hour.: To find out more please contact me on: 07786 347575 or click here to send me an email.

I am also a qualified yoga teacher and have been practising meditation and mindfulness in my own personal life over a period of many years.

Some feedback from clients on:

Stop smoking

"I just wanted to send you a quick message and advise you on how I was getting on after the 'stop smoking' session I attended.

"Well I am very happy to say that, I feel energized, I feel positive, I feel "me" again, and most of all I feel FREE..."

Weight loss

"Just thought I would drop you a line to let you know that things are still going in the right direction.  I have now lost about 2 stone (many thanks for your help) and am due a hip replacement, most likely in Dec, Jan or possibly Feb.  The lower weight is, I am assured, going to be a great advantage, so many thanks for helping me to get back on the right track."

Areas of hypnotherapy I deal with

Information about health conditions (*)

Hypnotherapy can enhance the well-being of individuals diagnosed with serious medical conditions, but should not take the place of medical treatment and advice. If you have been diagnosed with - or suspect you may have - any of these conditions, please speak to your doctor before starting hypnotherapy.

Other areas of hypnotherapy I deal with

Mindfulness seems to be a popular buzzword at the moment.

How much of a difference can it make? I can only speak for myself here and say that becoming mindful has brought a quality into my life that was not there before. The concept is very simple. It is about being present. Being present consistently for most of us takes years of practice.

It is the nature of the human mind to think.  But sometimes these thoughts can be overwhelming as the minds races away. Realisation of how often you are ruminating over a past event, for instance:

  • Replaying conversations, and thinking of better answers than the ones you gave at the time.
  • Maybe straying into the future. Thinking you know what someone else is thinking (mind reading).
  • Believing that something awful will happen (catastrophising)
  • Constructing whole scenarios around, 'what if ...'.
  • Asking a series of questions and failing to be satisfied with any answers.

These are just some examples of automatic distorted thoughts. Overthinking can be exhausting. Being mindful is the antidote to all these types of thoughts. Learning to accept that they are just thoughts. It is learning to focus totally on the task in hand, however, small.  As you learn to start focusing in the present moment, you realise you have greater clarity of thought. With this step life improves. You have more energy.
