About me

Hello my name is Clair.  I am a clinical hypnotherapist and psychotherapist with over 14 years' experience. I am registered with the Complementary & Natural Healthcare Council and an approved therapist for Anxiety UK.  I have diplomas in Clinical Hypnotherapy and in Psychotherapy.

My approach is client-centred so you can get the most out of the sessions and achieve the goals you want - whether that is to overcome anxiety, stress or phobia; weight loss; manage a health condition; improve your confidence or stop a habit. I have successfully helped many clients over the years with a variety of issues.

Over many years of practice, I have learned that the key to personal progress is to help you get stronger and more balanced within yourself. So I will  teach you techniques you can use yourself that will help you now and in the future.

As a registered and accredited practitioner, you can be sure that I practice within a professional framework, complying with GDPR, ethical and practice standards.

What to expect at your session

First and foremost the session is your time and space and so we focus on what you want to achieve.

For adults (and aged 16 or over) the first session is a little longer (up to 1.5 hours) so we can spend some time discussing what has brought you here.  This helps me to get a better understanding about you as a whole person.  We'll then agree what goal or goals you want to set so I can work out a personal plan for you.  During the session I will explain about hypnotherapy and how I use it and related techniques. Each subsequent session lasts 1 hour 15 mins.

For clients under 16 years of age, sessions are similar in focus and design but shorter - up to 60 minutes.  This includes discussion with parents/carers.

I am trained in advanced hypnotherapy techniques which means I am able to tailor each session to suit the issue, your personality and preferences in order to get the best results for you.

In some cases, you will find that one session is enough to get the result you want.  Most people will wish to have follow up or regular sessions.  This depends on you and the goal you want to reach.  We will spend time at the first and any following sessions looking back on your progress and discuss how you want to continue.

I have a client-centred approach and so I will check-in with you at each session to make sure we are focusing on what you need and you are comfortable with how we work together.

What to expect from hypnosis

There are many techniques which can be used whist you are fully awake.  These are often a good introduction for people new to hypnosis and they are very effective.  Deeper hypnosis is where you become much more relaxed and many people describe the feeling as similar to between sleep and wakefulness.  So whilst you are very relaxed, you remain in control and can open your eyes whenever you wish.

When experiencing hypnosis, each person is unique and will feel different.  Don't worry about how deeply you go.  Most people, and indeed all my clients, have described it as a pleasant experience and one that they feel they benefit from.  It is just as effective whether you feel you go very deep or feel more like you stayed awake throughout.  One of the lovely things about hypnotherapy is that is it not necessarily always the same each time you experience it, but it will be what you need at that time.

You will always remain in control, even when you may be in the deepest state of hypnosis.  You can let me know if you want to stop or if you want to let me know something.  Just like when you are day dreaming or just dropping off to sleep, you can wake up and be fully alert any time you like.

What type of issues have you helped with?

I have discovered hypnotherapy to be very effective for a huge range of issues, particularly those which are caused or exacerbated by stress and anxiety eg sleep problems, panic attacks, fears and phobias (eg needles, dogs, flying), generalised anxiety, addictions (food, smoking, gambling), weight and pain management, unwanted habits (nail biting, pulling hair, picking), managing health conditions (such as Parkinsons, dry eyes, IBS), driving test and exam anxiety, public speaking, low self esteem or confidence, relationship issues and depression.

These are just some examples of issues that have responded well to hypnotherapy.  NHS recommends hypnotherapy as a treatment for IBS (irritable bowel syndrome).
