About me

Hello and welcome!

I am a Quest Cognitive Hypnotherapist and I have eleven years' experience helping my clients live a happier, more positive life. I draw upon several disciplines including NLP,  Positive Psychology, Gestalt Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and the Human Givens approach among others.

I work with mid-life professionals who are burnt-out, to help them improve their boundaries and be kinder to themselves.

I help my clients improve their confidence, relieving them of any fears and anxieties which might be holding them back, moving towards their outcomes and goals, often in 4-6 sessions. I work in partnership with each client to help them achieve the outcomes they want, and as such, every treatment is truly personalised. I listen closely to both the words and gestures, which helps me to provide a programme of support to create change in the shortest time possible while ensuring that the changes are embedded and long-lasting.

We work together, with support between sessions and tasks and homework set for you to engage fully in your progress. By taking a holistic approach, I can help you let go of the past, lose your fears and start living your best life.

As part of your treatment, I write bespoke hypnotherapy recordings for you, which help you to relax and to make changes easily and unconsciously. The changes start when you get in touch and continue throughout our sessions, and beyond. Working with me is a journey of support, gaining a new perspective, and allowing your unconscious mind to help you make the changes you desire.

My area of special interest is helping you improve your relationship with yourself, especially in relation to your self-esteem, bringing you closer to a feeling of unconditional positive self-regard, and increased self-love.

Family Therapy

I work therapeutically with primary-aged children and their parents, drawing upon therapy skills and my 20+ years as a primary teacher.

My packages include:

  • A 30 minute Discovery Call via phone or Zoom
  • Bespoke hypnosis recordings created for you
  • Hypnotherapy sessions at my clinic or online hypnotherapy sessions via Zoom
  • Follow-up text messages to support you between sessions
  • Even more positive changes can occur between sessions while you listen to the recordings made especially for you. You can re-learn to access your own resources, becoming more independent as you return to a place of balance.

Please get in touch if you have any questions I haven't answered here and book in for your free telephone or Zoom consultation. I look forward to hearing from you.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is hypnosis?

We all go in and out of trance every single day naturally, and hypnosis is simply an induced state of trance. It is like day dreaming or thinking about something else, while other things are going on. When you feel like you are working on auto-pilot doing any routine tasks without having to think about them, you are in a state of trance.

What does hypnosis or hypnotic trance feel like?

Being hypnotised feels like you are in a very relaxed frame of mind.  It is a state where the conscious mind is having a rest, and the focus is deep within. You can come out of the trance easily, by simply opening your eyes. When I have come to the end of the hypnosis part of the session, I simply count from 1 to 5, and the client opens their eyes. They usually report feeling every refreshed.

How does hypnosis work?

A hypnotherapist uses a combination of their words and their voice to help the client go into a trance by asking them to close their eyes and take a few deep breaths. The therapist speaks at a gentle pace and helps the client to relax. After this point that the therapist can make suggestions to the unconscious mind of the client, to help the client with issues they have previously discussed and agreed. The unconscious mind accepts the suggestions that it wants to. I create a personalised recording for each person I work with so that they can listen to it every day and this allows the unconscious mind to open up and start making changes right from the first session.

What is hypnotherapy?

As a hypnotherapist I use my voice, words and my relationship with each person to help them change their beliefs and patterns of behaviour by tapping into the unconscious mind. Much of the work I do is conversational, and I use various tools and techniques including hypnosis to help you go from where you are (sometimes called the problem state) to where you want to be (the solution state). Cognitive Hypnotherapy is a solution-focussed therapy.

Can anyone be hypnotised?

Yes, if you want to be. We are advertised to everyday and we pick up beliefs and values from those around us, so we are already primed to accepting ideas, and some people more than others. We might know people who are more gullible or easier to convince of something; we might call them more suggestible. But on the whole I would say anyone can be hypnotised, if they want to be.

What if I am resistant?

Some people are worried about not being able to be hypnotised. It's important that you feel comfortable with the therapist that you choose to work with, so I would say always talk to them on the phone and make sure you have looked at their website to get a feel for them. If they have videos or recordings for you to watch or listen to, that can help you feel more comfortable with them. If a client has come to a session willingly, it is rare for them to be resistant. It might be that they are resisting the change itself. Incidentally, there is a lot of change work that can be done with eyes open, and in a conversational way too.

Will I lose control?

You are always in control of your trance state and can come out of it by simply opening your eyes. therapist can’t hypnotise a person against their will, and can’t make a person behave in ways which are different to their normal personality. So often there are misconceptions due to stage shows but stage hypnotists look for people who are particularly extrovert and are natural performers when they are looking for someone who will perform tricks on stage. We might all know someone who is an extrovert who would love to go up on a stage and perform anyway – they don’t need much persuasion! So if you’re thinking of working with someone, check their credentials - trust is a vital component in successful therapy.

What’s the difference between a hypnotherapy recording that is made for me and a one which I can download online?

Imagine the difference between a tailor made suit or dress, when the tailor has your measurements, your requirements and as sense of your style and the occasion. Think about the fit of that garment and the experience of it and compare that to walking into a shop on the high street and buying a suit or a dress. They both work but they may not be comparable in terms of fit or quality. On my website you can find a menu where you can book in to have a session with me and have a bespoke recording made for you, and I also have some pre-recorded options available too.
