Tracy Shakes. BA, BSc, GQHP, EMDR.
ARE YOU WANTING TO MAKE CHANGES? Then look no further!
My name is Tracy Shakes and I am delighted that you have made your way to my site. I am very passionate about the work I and about helping people to change their lives for the better.
I have been helping adults and children to understand the challenges or problems they face in life for over 25 years. I have a lot of experience of working with people who have experienced abuse, trauma or issues that impact on your everyday life. I work with people from the age of 5 upwards..
Do you want to rid yourself of anxiety or any of the following
- or stop smoking,
- lose weight
- or stop an addictive behaviour?
If the answer is yes to any of these then give me a call and lets discuss how hypnotherapy can change your life.
What is Hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is a form of complementary therapy that utilises the power of positive suggestion to bring about subconscious change to our thoughts, feelings and behaviour. The process itself aims to alter our state of consciousness in a way that relaxes the conscious part of the mind while simultaneously stimulating and focussing the subconscious part. This heightened state of awareness reached using skilled relaxation techniques – allows the therapist to then make appropriate suggestions.
When might hypnotherapy be useful?
Hypnotherapy can be used in many areas of your life and below are just a few examples. If you want to make a change in your life then hypnotherapy can help to break cycles associated with most negative feelings, it can also be used for getting rid of weight, smoking cessation, addictions, reduce stress, sleep disorders, relaxation, trauma, anxiety, panic attacks, phobias, confidence, depression and connecting with the past.
I work with both adults and children.
Hypnotherapy and Children.
Children are generally very resilient, and what can seem a problem one minute, is often forgotten about later in the day. They can squabble with their best friend and be all smiles the next. Yet there are times when children struggle to cope with external factors that may be affecting them. Even with the most nurturing of home environments, children can find it difficult to make sense of, or talk about how they are feeling.
In younger children, emotional problems may manifest in a disinterest in playing, trouble going to the toilet, spending long periods of time crying or exhibiting more anger and shouting than usual.
Up until the age of 6, children are in a slow brain wave state called the ‘theta’ brain wave. This is akin to a hypnotic state. Effectively they are downloading all of the sensory information from around them. They may not witness two parents going through a difficult patch for example, yet they will still pick up on it energetically and be just as effected emotionally and physically.
Older children may still display similar symptoms to that of a younger child, however in older children emotional issues tend to show through in the child withdrawing from themselves, becoming more isolated, spending time alone and not wishing to discuss how they are feeling. They may display a lack of appetite and particular and stark behavioral changes.
The use of hypnotherapy for children is an excellent means of treating:
- Emotional upset as a result of divorce
- Anxiety and panic
- Bed wetting
- Picky eating
- Issues relating to school
Many children do find it difficult to express how they are feeling and some may not have developed the cognitive skills to express their emotions. Hypnotherapy is particularly effective because children do not have to give an account of their problems in order to over come them.
Sessions with children involve the use of story, metaphor and drawing as a way to indirectly talk about how they are feeling and are used to help their unconscious mind resolve the problem. Children don’t come with a handbook so if your child needs a helping hand call me on 07713 184762 today for a free consultation.
Initially I trained in Person Centred Counselling and Psychotherapy and for lots of people counselling has facilitated positive change in their life and helped them to resolve issues and trauma that caused a difficulty or disturbance in their life. I decided to expand the therapy that I could offer by training as a Clinical Hypnotherapist and also completing training in EMDR. I think that the combination of having been trained as a counsellor and having training in hypnotherapy and EMDR enables me to work with a broader range of complex problems that people may present with and to be able to offer the right level of support.
I can help you with trauma, anxiety, panic attacks, depression, stress, sleep problems, bereavement, addictions, pain control, low self-esteem, performance anxiety, PTSD and phobias. EMDR can help you with reducing the painful intensity of your distressing memory. Other associated memories may also heal at the same time. This linking of related memories can lead to a dramatic improvement in many aspects of your life. For more information on EDMR, please see my website.
I am also able to offer therapy to people who are looking for help to manage their anger. I have completed the ‘Citizen Anger Management’ programme which is a six session course looking specifically and anger.
This integrative approach using both my counselling and hypnotherapy training, utilises both techniques to help with complex problems that may not be able to be addressed either therapy alone and allowing me to use my training and skills in counselling and psychotherapy to provide a supportive and empathetic therapeutic relationship.
I actively oppose oppression and discrimination against people because of their gender, race, nationality, ethnicity, disabilities, sexual orientation, age, religious beliefs, class, HIV status, or because they have been in contact with mental health services.
The choice of therapy lies with you, not with me. Should you wish to discuss the problem you have with me, in a free consultation call, and to then decide on the best course of therapy for you, this can be done. I would hope that the initial chat will put you at ease and enable you to take the next step to book the appointment.
