How to get your weight loss back on track with Hypnotherapy

Ahh, the summer holidays are now over and a long-forgotten memory. Many of us might have eaten too much and too many of the 'wrong' foods during our lovely holiday. Is it time now to get back on track with our weight loss goals?

There is a tendency to go into an 'all-or-nothing' mode. This is going on a diet that is severely restricting your calories. We know that this is not the way to go, but we desperately want to lose the holiday weight so much that we think this is a way to jump us back into losing weight.

We know that diets like this do not work, because they can be so restrictive that at some point, we will want to eat something outside of what is allowed. We often will feel so restricted that we will end up eating lots more of the food that we have been craving than we would normally have.

Three ways to get your weight loss back on track

1. Set a realistic goal

Set a long-term goal and then break that long-term goal down into smaller goals. For example, a 6-month goal and then broken down into a monthly goal.

Doing this will help you see that weight loss is a long-term journey. It is not something to do as a knee-jerk reaction and will never work that way. It will help you plan, but more importantly, it will help you to lose weight in a calm and controlled way. A way that is sustainable.

2. Make it fun

If we think about weight loss, what often comes to mind are the things that we cannot eat. This fills us with dread and understandably, we are not looking forward to it. We think we must survive on beans and veg and will have nothing tasty to eat. Nothing is sustainable when it is not enjoyable. Our unconscious is programmed to keep us safe and comfortable. Being overweight was safe and comfortable, so we must learn to teach our brain that eating healthily is safe and ok.

The way to do that is to make it fun. It is finding out what else can be fun to eat and tastes nice, that is healthy. What can you do that will make this journey fun for you?

3. Encourage yourself

So many times, I have seen how we get so negative about ourselves for eating the wrong foods. We eat something that is unhealthy, and we label ourselves as "bad". We tell ourselves off or tell ourselves how useless we are and that we cannot eat the right foods.

Be that friend to yourself.

This weight loss journey will, at times, be hard and what helps us is a supportive, encouraging friend. So be that friend to yourself. How can you encourage yourself? Imagine if your absolute best friend were going through your experience, what would you say to her?

How hypnotherapy can support you to get back on track with your weight loss?

1. Learn self-hypnosis

Teach your mind and body to relax. By being relaxed mentally and physically, we can start to see ourselves in a more positive light. It also helps us to be more objective about our lives than reactive.

2. Visualise how you want life to be

Whilst in a state of hypnotherapy it is easier to visualise your life to how you want it to be. Whilst in this relaxed state, we do not tell ourselves that we cannot do something. Our unconscious mind is open to suggestions.

You can visualise what you want your body to look like and what your lifestyle will look like when you get to your ideal weight.

3. Learn positive suggestions

Whilst under hypnosis, positive suggestions are given to help you achieve what you want. Here positive suggestions can be given to help boost your confidence and self-esteem. This in turn helps you to start being more positive towards yourself. The hypnotherapist can help you with the language you use with yourself, so you become supportive instead of disparaging.

You will find, that using hypnotherapy to support your weight loss journey will help you reach your goals faster and easier. It will help you to start being kinder and more loving towards yourself which will help you reach your goals.
