About me

Sharon Dyke – Solution Focused Hypnotherapist, Psychotherapist, Trainer, and Clinical Supervisor
I am a senior practitioner, qualified in Solution Focused Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy, with over 36 years of experience in adult social care. My background includes managing community mental health services and working as an adult social care regulator.

Twenty years ago, I became interested in hypnotherapy while supporting individuals with mental health challenges, including trauma. Through extensive research in positive psychology, I discovered that hypnotherapy—also known as positive mental rehearsal or guided relaxation—is a powerful tool. As a therapeutic intervention, hypnotherapy helps people regain control of their lives by promoting positive thinking, interaction, and action.

Training and Experience
I studied Solution Focused Hypnotherapy at The Clifton Practice (CPHT), a nationally recognised authority in the field. For five years, I worked as a senior lecturer at CPHT, delivering the Hypnotherapy Practitioner Diploma (HPD) in Guildford, Surrey. I now offer Emotional Resilience training across the South West and provide clinical supervision to other Solution Focused Hypnotherapists across the UK, both in person and online.

I also hold qualifications in Human Givens Psychotherapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT hyp), Solution Focused Brief Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), among others. I draw on these approaches to create individualised, person-centred treatment plans for every client.

Areas of Specialisation
I specialise in working with individuals experiencing depression, anxiety, anger, OCD, PTSD, phobias, stress, and low self-esteem. These conditions can lead to issues such as nail biting, skin picking, panic attacks, and chronic overwhelm.

If you’re ready to leave the past behind and take a positive step forward, contact me to arrange a consultation and begin your journey toward change.

Training, qualifications & experience

Committed to Positive Change

Over the course of my 36-year career, I have developed a deep understanding of human behaviour, particularly the interplay between conscious and subconscious processes.  My passion for neuroscience and brain plasticity continues to shape my work, empowering individuals to overcome challenges and create meaningful, lasting change.

Hypnotherapy is a valuable tool for helping people regain control over their thoughts, behaviours, and emotions. By focusing on positive thinking, interaction, and action, we foster an environment for real growth and improvement.

Take the Next Step

If you are ready to leave the past behind and take a positive step forward in your life, I invite you to arrange a consultation with me.

Experience and Approach

With 36 years of experience in health and social care, I became deeply interested in understanding human behaviour—particularly the dynamics between conscious and subconscious thought processes. The field of neuroscience and brain plasticity has reshaped the way we understand behaviour, and I realised that by understanding how the brain works, individuals could regain control and make significant positive changes in their lives.

Through my research, I discovered the effectiveness of hypnotherapy as a therapeutic tool. Hypnotherapy empowers people to overcome obstacles, fostering positive thinking, interaction, and action—key components of sustainable change.

Founding Member and Leadership Roles

In December 2010, I co-founded the Association for Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (AfSFH), the only national membership organisation dedicated to Solution Focused Hypnotherapy. Today, the AfSFH has grown to over 500 members worldwide.

Since 2010, I have also served as a Clinical Supervisor for Hypnotherapists. In 2014, I became a Senior Lecturer with Clifton Practice Hypnotherapy Training (CPHT) and co-directed CPHT Guildford, where I mentored and trained future hypnotherapy practitioners.

Commitment to Positive Change

I am fully committed to Solution Focused Hypnotherapy and its transformative power. Through my work, I help clients overcome challenges, regain control, and develop practical strategies to achieve lasting improvements in their lives.

If you are ready to take that positive step forward, I am here to guide and support you on your journey.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

APHP
Association for Professional Hypnosis and Psychotherapy (APHP)

Each member of APHP has received thorough training in hypnosis and hypnotherapy, is competent and conscientious, and abides strictly by a code of ethics.

There are four grades of membership: Licentiate (LAPHP), Registered Member (MAPHP), Accredited Member (MAPHP(acc.)) and Fellow (FAPHP), with the different categories standing for different levels of training and experience.

The Association for Professional Hypnosis and Psychotherapy is a member organisation of UKCHO (an umbrella body for the hypnotherapy profession in the United Kingdom).

CNHC
Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC)

The CNHC encompasses many types of alternative therapy, including hypnotherapy.

In order to be admitted to the register a practitioner must have studied to the National Occupational Standards for that profession/discipline, or have reached the equivalent of the National Occupational Standards through other relevant training or at least three years of experience and been assessed by their peers.

A practitioner must also have professional insurance and agree to abide by the CNHC Code of Conduct, Performance and Ethics.

GHR
The General Hypnotherapy Register (GHR)

Hypnotherapists may become members of the General Hypnotherapy Register if they satisfy certain criteria with regard to both training and ongoing requirements as determined from time to time by the General Hypnotherapy Standards Council (GHSC).

Members are either registered at Practitioner status (which confirms that the GHR acknowledges their qualification to practice), or Affiliate status. Although Affiliate level registrants will have completed a sufficient number of training hours to equip them to commence seeing clients on a limited basis, the GHR does not acknowledge them to have yet been trained to full practitioner level.

All GHR Registered Practitioners are required to accept the published Code of Ethics and Complaints & Disciplinary Procedure.

NCH
National Council for Hypnotherapy (NCH)

The National Council for Hypnotherapy holds one of the largest registers of independent Hypnotherapists in the United Kingdom and strives to maintain the highest standards among its members.

There is an agreed Code of Conduct, an established Complaints & Disciplinary Procedure and all members are obliged to maintain comprehensive Public Liability & Professional Indemnity Insurance, maintain regular CPD (continuing professional development) hours, and attend Supervision when needed.

AfSFH
Association for Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (AfSFH)

The Association for Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (AfSFH) was set up to provide information about a modern form of Hypnotherapy and its associated benefits to members of the public. The main aim of the AfSFH is to spread awareness of the benefits of Solution Focused Hypnotherapy. Its secondary aim is to support Hypnotherapists in their businesses by encouraging good practice and self-care.
