About me

Hello and welcome. I suffered from a range of problems, anxiety, fears and addiction and made a full recovery through hypnotherapy in the 1990s. This experience led me to helping others and to setting up The Hypnotherapy Practice. Due to my experience of dealing with complex and chronic problems I am often referred to by other therapists with patients with more resistant conditions, so if you have a problem that has been resistant to numerous other treatments, please don’t lose hope, I will most likely still be able to help you.

I specialise in treating stress & anxiety, fears & phobias, weight loss, habits, addiction, emotional problems and OCD but I have had experience of treating a wide range of different problems over the years so I will have almost certainly treated your problem however unusual you may think it is. Most of the conditions I treat are listed further down the page, with a more complete list available through my website linked above.

After gaining an MSc from Leeds University in the 1990s I have applied my scientific knowledge and understanding to help develop hypnotherapy theory and practice. I am a leading figure in the field of hypnotherapy and now, when not writing or training, I see patients from across the UK.

At The Hypnotherapy Practice we use advanced techniques of regression and cognitive hypnotherapy. These more advanced techniques are distinguishable from other forms of hypnotherapy in that they treat the cause of the problem and therefore have a much higher success rate that then lasts into the long term. We do also, though, use suggestion, imagery and NLP under the appropriate circumstances.

The outcomes of my therapy were assessed from January to March 2019 and my success rate was found to be 95%.

Professional Standards

I am a Senior Registered Clinical Hypnotherapist, registered through full membership of the General Hypnotherapy Standards Council (GHSC) and the Complimentary Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC).

The CNHC is a professional standards authority accredited register and as such I am approved for GP referral.

The GHSC requires its therapists to have the appropriate training, experience and qualifications to achieve senior status, I exceed all of these requirements.

Training, qualifications & experience

I originally trained with a General Hypnotherapy Standards Council registered training school and have since gone on to complete advanced, curative hypnotherapy, training at Birmingham’s Therapy Training College, as well as having partaken in many extension courses on, for example, NLP and EMDR.

The CNHC encompasses many types of alternative therapy, including hypnotherapy.

In order to be admitted to the register a practitioner must have studied to the National Occupational Standards for that profession/discipline, or have reached the equivalent of the National Occupational Standards through other relevant training or at least three years of experience and been assessed by their peers.

A practitioner must also have professional insurance and agree to abide by the CNHC Code of Conduct, Performance and Ethics.

GHR
The General Hypnotherapy Register (GHR)

Hypnotherapists may become members of the General Hypnotherapy Register if they satisfy certain criteria with regard to both training and ongoing requirements as determined from time to time by the General Hypnotherapy Standards Council (GHSC). Members are either registered at Practitioner status (which confirms that the GHR acknowledges their qualification to practice), or Affiliate status. Although Affiliate level registrants will have completed a sufficient number of training hours to equip them to commence seeing clients on a limited basis, the GHR does not acknowledge them to have yet been trained to full practitioner level. All GHR Registered Practitioners are required to accept the published Code of Ethics and Complaints & Disciplinary Procedure.

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. You can contact the Hypnotherapist to discuss the options available.
