Hypnotherapy in Carlisle & Canonbie – Helping You Feel Calmer, More Confident and in Control
Hello, I'm Lorraine, a qualified Solution Focused Hypnotherapist and Psychotherapist offering hypnotherapy in Carlisle and Canonbie, as well as online hypnotherapy throughout the UK.
If anxiety, overthinking, fears, phobias, poor sleep or low confidence are affecting your everyday life, hypnotherapy can help you make positive changes and feel more like yourself again.
I help people with a wide range of difficulties, with particular experience in areas including:
Anxiety, stress and overthinking
Fears and phobias, including emetophobia and fear of flying
Panic attacks and health anxiety
Low confidence and self-esteem
Insomnia and sleep problems
Menopause-related anxiety, stress and sleep difficulties
Unwanted habits
Weight management
Stop smoking
You may have been struggling for years, or perhaps something has changed recently and you have realised that you don't want to carry on feeling the way you do.
Whatever has brought you here, taking that first step can sometimes feel daunting. My approach is friendly, supportive and non-judgemental, and our sessions focus on helping you move towards how you want to feel and the life you want to be living.
How Solution Focused Hypnotherapy can help
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy combines psychotherapy with hypnosis and focuses primarily on the present and your future, rather than requiring you to repeatedly revisit difficult or painful experiences from your past.
We work together to understand what's happening, identify the changes you'd like to make and help you develop new, more helpful patterns of thinking and behaviour.
The aim is to help you feel calmer, more resilient and better able to cope with life's challenges.
Hypnosis itself is a natural, deeply relaxed state. You remain aware and in control throughout the session. Many of my clients find this part of the process particularly enjoyable and relaxing – I sometimes describe it as a "massage for the mind."
What happens when you contact me?
I offer a free 20-minute introductory telephone call, giving you the opportunity to tell me briefly what you'd like help with, ask questions and find out whether you feel I am the right therapist for you.
There is no obligation to continue.
If you decide you'd like to work with me, we begin with an Initial Consultation. This gives us time to explore what has brought you to hypnotherapy, what you would like to achieve and how I may be able to help.
I'll also explain, in straightforward terms, how the brain can contribute to problems such as anxiety, negative thinking and unwanted behaviours – and, importantly, what we can do to help change those patterns.
You'll also receive my relaxation recording to use between sessions.
What happens during hypnotherapy sessions?
Our subsequent sessions combine Solution Focused talking therapy with hypnosis.
During the talking part of the session, rather than concentrating on everything that has gone wrong, we'll begin noticing what's going well, the changes you're making and the small steps that can move you towards your goals.
This is followed by hypnosis, where you can relax comfortably while I use guided imagery, positive language, suggestion and metaphor to support the work we've been doing together.
Sessions are positive, relaxed and collaborative, and clients often tell me they begin looking forward to this time each week.
Hypnotherapy in Carlisle, Canonbie and Online
I offer face-to-face hypnotherapy in Carlisle, Cumbria and Canonbie, Dumfries and Galloway, making my practice accessible to clients from across the surrounding areas.
I also provide online hypnotherapy, allowing you to attend sessions from the comfort of your own home wherever you are in the UK.
If you're unsure whether hypnotherapy is suitable for what you're experiencing, you don't need to decide before contacting me.
Book a free 20-minute introductory call and we can have an informal conversation about what's happening, what you'd like to change and whether I may be able to help.
Sometimes making that first call is the beginning of a very positive change.

The Association for Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (AfSFH) was set up to provide information about a modern form of Hypnotherapy and its associated benefits to members of the public. The main aim of the AfSFH is to spread awareness of the benefits of Solution Focused Hypnotherapy. Its secondary aim is to support Hypnotherapists in their businesses by encouraging good practice and self-care.

Reviews These are a few examples of reviews received from clients:
Anxiety/ low self-esteem I went to Lorraine after searching online for someone I felt could help me to address my anxiety and low self esteem. Lorraine has been superb in helping me achieve my goals that I didn’t think were possible! Lorraine is easy to talk to, very honest and loves her job. Cannot thank her enough.
Anxiety
I was a wee bit sceptical before trying hypnotherapy but it’s made a huge difference to my mindset. I’ve struggled with bouts of anxiety and a tendency to overthink, but it’s amazing how much more resilient I feel as a result of Lorraine’s work. Cannot recommend her enough!
Emetophobia I had struggled with emetophobia for over 10 years, and after a few courses of therapy, I didn't expect anything to change. My sister found Lorraine, and I will admit I was sceptical at first, but now I wish I had found Lorraine earlier. My experience was so positive and I never felt judged or misunderstood. She is amazing at what she does, and could make anyone feel comfortable so I could not recommend her more. I can confidently say I have gotten over my phobia, and have grown more confident and am now ready to tackle any challenges life throws at me. Thank you so much Lorraine for helping me change for the better!
Insomnia
I cannot recommend enough, I suffered from bouts of insomnia for years but from the first session Lorraine relaxed me and I started sleeping better. A very professional and relaxing therapy.
