About me

Thank you for visiting my profile. I am a Solution Focused Hypnotherapist and Psychotherapist offering help for a wide range of psychological and physical problems either face to face or via online platforms such as Zoom.

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy, as the name suggests, focuses on the present and the future without the need to remember or relive, often painful, memories or events from the past.

It is a collaborative approach where we work together to reduce anxieties and promote calm in the mind.

I will guide you through the process, but it is important that you understand that you are the one that makes the change because you want it and that you are willing to take the steps towards making the change happen.

What to expect

The Initial Consultation provides an opportunity for you to tell me why you are seeking help and what you expect to achieve from hypnotherapy. I will gather some basic information from you which, will allow me to form a treatment plan before explaining how the brain works in relation to your problem.

This is an important part of the treatment and understanding why you are suffering and what we can do about it can be a huge relief and bring things into perspective for you. We will also discuss the commitment required from you to bring about the best results and an approximate number of sessions it may take. At the end of the session, I will provide you with my relaxation download to listen to between sessions.

Subsequent sessions are made up of two parts, each lasting approximately 25 minutes. The first part is talking therapy (psychotherapy), during this time we will look at the positive aspects of your week and how you will reach your goal. This is followed by a period of trance (hypnosis) where I will lead you into a deeply relaxed state using positive language, guided imagery, indirect suggestion, and metaphors where your subconscious mind will be able to consolidate what we have discussed.

These are very pleasant, relaxing, and often fun sessions where we focus on positives and the future without dwelling on the past and are something that my clients find themselves looking forward to each week.

Hypnotherapy is a combination of Psychotherapy and Hypnosis

There are many kinds of Psychotherapy, all of which aim to help people overcome stress or emotional problems. Psychotherapy involves talking together to overcome difficulties and therefore it is often referred to as ‘talking therapy’. I practice solution focused psychotherapy which does not analyse the past but acknowledges where you are now. identifies where you want to be and helps you to get to where you want to be.

Hypnosis is a very natural state and I am sure you can remember times where you’ve driven home but don’t remember part of the route, read a chapter of a book and not remembered what it said or perhaps you’ve been watching a movie and your thoughts have drifted off somewhere else for a while and you realise you’ve not seen or heard what’s been happening on the screen. These are all examples of hypnotic-trance, and as with those examples during the trance period of our session you can still function and understand what is happening around you and you can bring yourself out of it at any time should you want. I would be surprised if you did though as it is such an enjoyable and relaxing experience – I often think of it as ‘massage for the mind’.

Initial Consultation: This is a valuable part of the treatment journey and allows you to talk about what has brought you to therapy and what you would like to achieve from it. It also provides an opportunity for me to explain how the brain works, in easily understood terms, giving you an understanding of why you are experiencing the problem and what we can do about it (Not required for the Stop Smoking Session)

General Therapy Sessions: Following the initial consultation, we will work together for a number of weeks using positive psychotherapy and hypnosis techniques to help you gain the long-term results you’re looking for and be the best you can be. The number of sessions required will depend on a number of factors but as a general guideline for anxiety disorders the average is between 8 and 12 sessions and phobias are 4 (including the initial consultation).

Stop Smoking Session: Only one session is required and consists of information gathering to explore what you like/dislike about smoking, an explanation of how the brain works in relation to forming habits such as smoking and is followed by hypnosis

Further information

These are a few examples of reviews received from clients:

Anxiety/ low self-esteem                                                                                                  I went to Lorraine after searching online for someone I felt could help me to address my anxiety and low self esteem. Lorraine has been superb in helping me achieve my goals that I didn’t think were possible! Lorraine is easy to talk to, very honest and loves her job. Cannot thank her enough.

Anxiety
I was a wee bit sceptical before trying hypnotherapy but it’s made a huge difference to my mindset. I’ve struggled with bouts of anxiety and a tendency to overthink, but it’s amazing how much more resilient I feel as a result of Lorraine’s work. Cannot recommend her enough!

Emetophobia                                                                                                                    I had struggled with emetophobia for over 10 years, and after a few courses of therapy, I didn't expect anything to change. My sister found Lorraine, and I will admit I was sceptical at first, but now I wish I had found Lorraine earlier. My experience was so positive and I never felt judged or misunderstood. She is amazing at what she does, and could make anyone feel comfortable so I could not recommend her more. I can confidently say I have gotten over my phobia, and have grown more confident and am now ready to tackle any challenges life throws at me. Thank you so much Lorraine for helping me change for the better!

Insomnia
I cannot recommend enough, I suffered from bouts of insomnia for years but from the first session Lorraine relaxed me and I started sleeping better. A very professional and relaxing therapy.
