Emotional trauma and how to escape it
Emotional trauma is thankfully more talked about these days because more people are open about their feelings, so we now know it impacts people's lives at all ages.
The fact that emotional stress/trauma is one of the major causes of Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) should give you an idea of the longevity of these issues especially in the formative years of our lives.
So what can cause emotional trauma?
- Abuse (physical/emotional/sexual).
- Being a victim of crime.
- Being a victim of violence.
- Domestic abuse.
- Witnessing violence.
- Death of a loved one.
- Natural disasters.
- Severe illness or injury.
- War/serving in the armed forces.
This is in no way a comprehensive list, as anything impacting a person negatively can cause emotional trauma, "One man's molehill is another man's mountain" - anon. Meaning what's easy for one person to deal with or get over could cause considerable trauma for another and with that in mind nothing should ever be "glossed over".
Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) coupled with hypnosis is an effective way to process troublesome memories, putting them in the past where they belong. Using a scale from "0-10" where "0" is no feeling at all toward the emotion the memory evokes and "10" is the worst feeling possible, the client is able to bring the score down to whatever number they feel is best for them, a "0" is excellent but not always necessary.
It is worth noting that EMDR continues processing for approximately 24 hours after the session concludes, so what was left at a "3" during the session could well become a "0" over that time.
Using hypnosis to end the session allows the client to relax into themselves and have a moment of peace before carrying on their day, along with the relaxation they can also have suggestions to allow them to let go of any negative associations to the memory.
It's possible to eradicate some trauma in one session, but everyone is different so its best to allow for at least three sessions to ensure a good result.
