Fan Flaherty Dip Hyp CS - Specialist in Anxiety
Anxiety is horrible. Really, really horrible. The little voice in our head that won’t stop, the pounding heart, sweating, shaking, headache and nausea are the symptoms we all know about, but what about the lesser known ones? A general feeling of being out of sorts, crying easily, lack of energy, obsessive thoughts and health anxiety to name a few. It can strike randomly or be a predictable, constant, unwanted companion. However it manifests the effects are the same - low self-esteem, problems with relationships or work and an overriding feeling of being trapped and utterly defeated. We might turn to food, alcohol, unhealthy relationships or social media to distract us or give us a temporary lift but without tackling the root cause of our problem we risk feeling worse than we did before. And so the cycle continues. But there is good news! Although I am not going to pretend anxiety is easy to overcome, it is possible. By accepting it and letting the present moment be exactly as it is, using positive, reassuring self-talk and showing ourselves compassion we put a stop to the internal conflict. Without all the inner fighting of ‘please let this anxiety stop’, ‘I can’t cope with this feeling a second longer’ and ‘I am about to die/pass out/lose my mind’ a sense of ease and peace edges in whether we like it or not. Gradually, as we start to feel more in control and less at the mercy of anxiety and panic attacks, we can trust ourselves more and begin expanding our lives again.
I am an experienced, qualified hypnotherapist and counsellor with a real belief in the power and possibilities of our minds. By changing our thoughts and refocusing our attention we can experience dramatic and long lasting results, whether it's overcoming a phobia, reaching a specific goal or shifting an unwanted behaviour - hypnotherapy can really help. It is a gentle, effective way of letting go of the things that are holding us back and replacing our negative or destructive thoughts with positive, healthy suggestions. It really is no more than a bespoke, guided mediation which enables our minds to unwind, absorb new ideas and refocus. Throughout the whole process you remain completely 'yourself', just wonderfully relaxed and open. It is very important to me that you feel understood and at ease, able to trust both myself and the therapy enough to really let me in to your world so together we can understand why you feel the way you do and work on getting you to a better place.
