About me

Helping you to take control and thrive!
I am a solution focused hypnotherapist specialising in chronic pain and/or suffer from chronic health conditions. I can provide you real emotional support and the ability to create a more positive outlook. As part of a pain management plan, hypnotherapy can make a real and lasting difference?

Whether you’re suffering from a long-term physical disability or a recently diagnosed chronic condition, life can improve infinitely when you learn strategies to help you relax, focus and take back control.

Let me help you find the drive and determination to keep on keeping on…to become the best version of yourself that you can be.

I specialise in:

  • Management of chronic conditions
  • Support for those living with long-term disability
  • Coping with life-changing events

You don’t want pity - you want your power back!
Do you have days where you find it difficult to cope and you feel you are forever going through a constantly on a massive rollercoaster ride of stressful range of emotions:

Anger - “Why me?”
Anxiety - “How will I cope?”
Despair - ”I can’t do it.”

?I’m not telling you this for sympathy, what I’m trying to say is, “I get it”. I understand how hard it is. And how do I know? Because I’ve been there, where you are now.

My Story can be your story!
As a child, I lived with sight and hearing problems, often finding that my schoolmates struggled to understand and accept the difficulties I was facing. As is often the case, this affected me mentally, leading to low self-confidence and anxiety issues. Without proper treatment, my mental health problems followed me through university and the first stages of my career.

Since then, I’ve experienced numerous medical issues from osteoporosis to brain seizures and chronic pain. I even had a six-month stint in a wheelchair and spent two months in hospital recuperating after an accident. I’ve been through countless hospital appointments and care plans and endured encounters with people who never seemed to look at me as a whole person. Instead, they saw a collection of symptoms.

Solution-focused hypnotherapy changed everything
Throughout the rollercoaster of feelings, I knew I didn’t want pity. I wanted my power back. And hypnotherapy gave me the tools to achieve that.

The thing I’ve learned through all of this is the importance of not giving up, of finding the positives and focusing on the future. I believe whole-heartedly in the impact that solution-focused hypnotherapy can have on the psychological effects of a chronic physical condition.

Why you should choose me: Perhaps you can relate to my story on some level.
If you feel you’re ready for something to change, then I believe I’m the person to help make that possible. I’d love to give you the tools and techniques to get you back in control and living your best life

How does the sessions work?
Once you have decided the method of how you would like your sessions to be delivered. Firstly, we start with the Lifestyle Discovery session, which will involve information gathering and as a practioner to listen to you and discuss how I can help you and what you want to get from the sessions. The subsequent sessions after we spend the first half of the session doing Solution Focused Therapy and remaining half of the session doing hypnotherapy. Here is the format of how the sessions work.

Lifestyle Discovery Session (1 hour)
It is vital that we meet before beginning a course of therapy to check that the techniques and methods I will be using are the right ones for you. No actual hypnotherapy happens in the initial session.

During our first session we will:

  • Talk about your situation so I can understand what has brought you to hypnotherapy.
  • Work out your goals and establish where you would like to be.
  • Discuss the theory behind the practice, so you understand how your brain works with regards solution focused hypnotherapy.
  • Agree a treatment plan and work out the number of sessions that may be necessary to achieve your goals.

Subsequent hypnotherapy sessions (1 hour).
During each session, we will use various techniques to discuss progress and help you to see the very great strides you are making through the therapy.

I will show you five-step SOS stress survival guide:

  1. Breathing
  2. Positive reflection
  3. Focusing on your solution
  4. Relaxation techniques using hypnotherapy
  5. Positive achievement of goals.

I will then guide you into a relaxed state of hypnosis by using guided language patterns set to relaxation music. During hypnosis, I will help you to imagine your preferred future, a future where you have a more useful perspective on the quality of your life.

You will leave feeling more relaxed, more positive, and better equipped to overcome the hurdles that present themselves in your future.

How many sessions should I take?
While you may find a short-term benefit from one session, it is only the accumulated effect of a number of regular sessions that can help you achieve the longer-term positive impact you are looking for. This can be discussed and reviewed at the end of each hypnotherapy session.

Testimonials from clients

If you want to know how successful my sessions are, don’t just take my word for it! Please read my anonymous reviews below which give real accounts of each client’s experience’s. The following reviews are from my clients themselves:

“Help reduce Anxiety”

“Daniel is an inspiration to all of his clients. When he talks to you in sessions you get a real sense he’s overcome some real personal struggles in his own life. He uses these experiences to help you create a positive outlook. I walk away from every session with a much clearer head and feeling much more relaxed. I found it interesting to learn about how the mind works. How a greater knowledge of this has helped me relax my mind and body. If you’re suffering with Anxiety, Depression, Panic attacks, OCD or Irrational Phobias Daniel is the guy for you. Can’t thank Daniel enough for his time and patience in helping me overcome my own personal issues. I’m still working on them but when I look back 6 months I’ve come such a long way.”

“Help with Insomnia”

“I arranged to meet with Daniel due to problems that I was having with insomnia related to anxiety over beginning a new job. We met and had a very thorough initial consultation in which Daniel explained Solution Focused Hypnotherapy in a very accessible way. He also asked me some questions about myself and the issue that I wanted help with. I only ended up having one session after this, which was spent undertaking guided relaxation. Daniel also gave me a CD of music and guided relaxation which I listened to before going to bed. I found the CD in particular to be very helpful and feel that it certainly helped me get to sleep more easily and stay asleep for longer. Overall, I found Daniel to be friendly, approachable and professional and would definitely recommend his service to anyone considering hypnotherapy”

“Help with low self-esteem”

“I went to Daniel for help as I have had low self esteem for a long time. Daniel was immensely understanding and reassuring. In the initial consultation he explained the principal of ‘Solution Focused Hypnotherapy’ to me. He also ensured that I understood how it would work. I was given a relaxation CD to take home and listen to at bedtime. I found this so relaxing and fell sleep to it most nights (allowing my subconscious mind to absorb it’s message). The five sessions I had after this were very rewarding. We would recap on the theory behind the therapy and talk about the positive aspects of my week.

Daniel would then play the relaxing music and tell me a ‘story’ whilst putting me in a trance (in other words I fell asleep). Again my subconscious mind was absorbing these positive affirmations. I always felt very good after each session and definitely felt much more confident. I have now finished the sessions and still listen to the CD at bedtime to reinforce the good work that Daniel has done. Through his work and therapy sessions I have become a far more confident person then I was before the sessions started back in January. I highly recommend Daniel.”

“Help with giving up smoking”

“I had been attempting and failing to stop smoking over and over again for years. Then a friend suggested I try solution focused hypnotherapy. After visiting Daniel Bateman at his practice in Clifton Village, I am overjoyed to be able to say that I am cured. Just like that! Like I’d never been a smoker, the craving – IT’S GONE! Thank You Daniel.
