My Story can be your story!
As a child, I lived with sight and hearing problems, often finding that my schoolmates struggled to understand and accept the difficulties I was facing. As is often the case, this affected me mentally, leading to low self-confidence and anxiety issues. Without proper treatment, my mental health problems followed me through university and the first stages of my career.
Since then, I’ve experienced numerous medical issues from osteoporosis to brain seizures and chronic pain. I even had a six-month stint in a wheelchair and spent two months in hospital recuperating after an accident. I’ve been through countless hospital appointments and care plans and endured encounters with people who never seemed to look at me as a whole person. Instead, they saw a collection of symptoms.
Solution-focused hypnotherapy changed everything
Throughout the rollercoaster of feelings, I knew I didn’t want pity. I wanted my power back. And hypnotherapy gave me the tools to achieve that.
The thing I’ve learned through all of this is the importance of not giving up, of finding the positives and focusing on the future. I believe whole-heartedly in the impact that solution-focused hypnotherapy can have on the psychological effects of a chronic physical condition.

Setting up our meetings together
From our Initial meeting based on your personal preferences I will ask whether you wish to have Online Zoom video Consultations or in person face to face meetings based at my practice The Arches Therapy Rooms, Cheltenham Road, Montpelier, Bristol.
1) Face-to Face Meeting at the practice
I offer my Hypnotherapy service at the beautiful Arches Therapy Rooms. The rooms are modern, safe, spacious, quiet and confidential space.
a) Covid 19 regulations
As we are still COVID times as a practitioner I have to adhere to COVID-19 regulations I will have to take your temperature before you enter the building. I ask all my clients to Sanitise your hands with hand gel (which will be provided) when they arrive and for your own safety i ask all my clients to wear a face mask. Please can I recommend that you bring a bottle of water to your session.
b) Parking at the practice
The Arches Therapy Rooms on Cheltenham Road, North of Bristol city centre. There is metered parking in all the surrounding streets close to the practice.
c) Traveling by Public Transport
If you are traveling by bus you need to catch the 70/71/73/75/76 bus north from the Bristol city centre. Ask the driver to drop you by the Arches or alternatively you can catch an Uber taxi.
2) Online Zoom video meetings
Alternatively, I can offer online sessions using Zoom which can carry out hypnotherapy from the comfort of your home! However we ask client
- Ensure you have a quiet and confidential room where nobody can disturb you.
- That you have a good Wi-Fi/internet connection.
- Comfortable soft chair with a blanket.
- To have a glass of water.
How does the sessions work?
Once you have decided the method of how you would like your sessions to be delivered. Firstly, we start with the Lifestyle Discovery session, which will involve information gathering and as a practioner to listen to you and discuss how I can help you and what you want to get from the sessions. The subsequent sessions after we spend the first half of the session doing Solution Focused Therapy and remaining half of the session doing hypnotherapy. Here is the format of how the sessions work.
Lifestyle Discovery Session (1 hour)
It is vital that we meet before beginning a course of therapy to check that the techniques and methods I will be using are the right ones for you. No actual hypnotherapy happens in the initial session.
During our first session we will:
- Talk about your situation so I can understand what has brought you to hypnotherapy.
- Work out your goals and establish where you would like to be.
- Discuss the theory behind the practice, so you understand how your brain works with regards solution focused hypnotherapy.
- Agree a treatment plan and work out the number of sessions that may be necessary to achieve your goals.
Subsequent hypnotherapy sessions (1 hour).
During each session, we will use various techniques to discuss progress and help you to see the very great strides you are making through the therapy.
I will show you five-step SOS stress survival guide:
- Positive reflection
- Focusing on your solution
- Relaxation techniques using hypnotherapy
- Positive achievement of goals.
I will then guide you into a relaxed state of hypnosis by using guided language patterns set to relaxation music. During hypnosis, I will help you to imagine your preferred future, a future where you have a more useful perspective on the quality of your life.
You will leave feeling more relaxed, more positive, and better equipped to overcome the hurdles that present themselves in your future.
How many sessions should I take?
While you may find a short-term benefit from one session, it is only the accumulated effect of a number of regular sessions that can help you achieve the longer-term positive impact you are looking for. This can be discussed and reviewed at the end of each hypnotherapy session.
Training, qualifications & experience
Current status: Solution Focused Hypnotherapist
In 2015, I decided to reignite his career in Health and Social Care, investigating careers in talking therapies. I decided to have a career which related to and reflected his professional training and experience, and so I decided to train as a Clinical Hypnotherapist.
I am Clinical Hypnotherapist who trained at Clifton Practice Hypnotherapy Training (CPHT) in Bristol. The Clifton Practice is one of the pioneering Hypnotherapy Practice in the South West where I have gained a Diploma in Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (DSFH). I am registered with the Complementary & Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC) for Hypnotherapy. I am also have professional insurance and an up-to-date enhanced DBS check.
Previous Background: Public Health and Health Promotion within Children's Services
I decided to pursue a career in Human Nutrition 20 years ago as I have always had an interest in food, science and helping people. I decided to train as a Nutritionist and attained three degrees including: BSc Diet & Clinical Nutrition, The Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen; BSc (Hons) Health Sciences (Health Care Option) University of Aberdeen and MSc Public Health Nutrition, Southampton University respectively.
In 2003, I started his first professional role as a Community Health Development Worker (Sure Start, Dover). I then worked within the Health Inequalities Team and Sure Start to ensure the delivery of health promotion interventions and approaches to individuals, families and neighbourhoods. In 2005, I started a new role as Departmental Nutritionist at the Birmingham Community Nutrition & Dietetic Service. This gave him a rewarding opportunity to work on various projects for the department. My role was mainly to develop and manage health projects and evaluations to support nutrition practices.
In 2006, I decided to relocate to Bristol and worked in many administrative roles within the local authorities in Children Services.
Association for Solution Focused Hypnotherapy
The Association for Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (AfSFH) was set up to provide information about a modern form of Hypnotherapy and its associated benefits to members of the public. The main aim of the AfSFH is to spread awareness of the benefits of Solution Focused Hypnotherapy. Its secondary aim is to support Hypnotherapists in their businesses by encouraging good practice and self-care.
Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council
The CNHC encompasses many types of alternative therapy, including hypnotherapy.
In order to be admitted to the register a practitioner must have studied to the National Occupational Standards for that profession/discipline, or have reached the equivalent of the National Occupational Standards through other relevant training or at least three years of experience and been assessed by their peers.
A practitioner must also have professional insurance and agree to abide by the CNHC Code of Conduct, Performance and Ethics.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Pay AS U Go: Individual hypnotherapy session £60 per a session
Signature Package: 4 Hypnotherapy sessions (includes Lifestyle Discovery consultation) (4 hours total) costs £200 altogether.
Payment and terms of service
All payments must be paid in full at the end of each session. I am happy to take cash, cheque, debit or major credit cards, using the Paypal buttons below. At Daniel Bateman Hypnotherapy we operate a ‘Pay as you Go’ service as well as 'block sessions'. This means that you have complete control over how many sessions you pay for.
Care agreement and cancellation policy
Prior to your initial consultation, I will ask you to sign a ‘Care Agreement’. This contract is there to protect you, the client, and to clarify any legalities. Once signed I will give you a copy and retain the original.
If you are unable to make the appointment, I politely request that you give 48 hours’ notice to allow me to reschedule another client. All cancellations must be made verbally by telephone or by leaving an answer phone message.
Unfortunately emails or text messages cannot be accepted.
Due to overheads incurred, same day cancellations, forgotten or missed appointments will be charged in full.
