About me

Hello, I’m Charlotte, a hypnotherapist and therapeutic counsellor from Hadleigh in Suffolk.

Now in my fifties, I have weathered a variety of work and indeed, life experiences.  Having been "at the sharp end" for a few years, I am very aware that life doesn't always run smoothly and the challenges with which any one of us can be presented often require some help and support.  I am here to offer you such help and support.

As a qualified hypnotherapist and pluralistic counsellor, I understand and respect the value of you as an individual and that of your own unique situation.  If you visit me for therapy, you can be assured of a completely unique plan, tailored to your needs, helping you to achieve your goals and fulfill your potential.

I have lots of experience working with a variety of people, in many different roles including that of volunteer counsellor with Iceni Ipswich and as a hypnotherapist and counsellor with Anxiety UK.  As a member of the Hypnotherapy in Schools Programme, I am trained to work with children as well as adults.

Having helped individuals to make significant changes to their lives, I am a passionate believer in these powerful therapies. I feel honoured by the fact that people choose to work with me to overcome their difficulties and achieve their goals and it is nothing less than a joy when I receive a text message or an e-mail from a client telling me how much better they feel.

Always determined to offer the best that I can, I engage with a variety of continuing professional development opportunities, to ensure that my knowledge and understanding of hypnotherapy and counselling is current.

What Hypnotherapy is...And What It Isn’t

Essentially, hypnotherapy is a safe, natural talking therapy that takes place whilst you are in a state of hypnosis.  It utilises the subconscious mind to enable you to resolve your problems and achieve your goals.  The popular spectacle of stage hypnosis has unfortunately led to some misunderstandings about hypnotherapy.  Really, there is no magic and no mystery.  Hypnosis is a way of inducing a voluntary state of relaxed concentration during which the conscious mind is resting, meaning that I can communicate with your subconscious mind providing you want me to.  In this comfortable state, suggestibility is heightened, mental absorption is increased and the imagination is activated in a controlled manner. The subconscious mind is then able to receive helpful and healthy suggestions which are beneficial to you.

How hypnotherapy can help you;

Many of the difficulties that we experience in our lives are as a result of what our brains have learned and absorbed over many years, through childhood, education, experiences and relationships.  Because of the way in which our subconscious mind works, this can lead to symptoms such as fears, phobias, low self-esteem, habitual behaviours like smoking, nail-biting or over-eating, anxiety, stress and sleep problems. Using hypnotherapy, I can help with all of these and more.

What to expect at your first visit

Whether your first visit is virtual or face to face, you will be welcomed warmly.  The therapy plan that we agree upon will be specific to your goals.  I am a firm believer in creating a programme designed for you, with your individual needs, values and beliefs considered foremost.  In my opinion, it is this individual approach that creates success.

Our initial meeting may last for more than an hour and we will talk about your therapy requirements and how I might be able to help you.  We will look closely at your own situation and how it is affecting your life.  We can then discuss some of the ways in which you might be able to manage your situation.  I will provide you with information and answer any questions you may have about hypnosis and hypnotherapy.

How many sessions will you need?

Generally, I find that most courses of therapy are between three and eight sessions.  Although our first meeting may last for up to an hour and a half, subsequent sessions tend to take one hour.  I will be able to give you an idea of how many sessions you are likely to need at the end of our first meeting.

Who is in control when you are hypnotised?

You are!

No one can be hypnotised against their will.  Hypnosis is not about power.  It is a collaborative and cooperative relationship between client and therapist.  In hypnosis, you cannot be made to do or say anything that you do not want to.  Remember, you hold the key to your success!

Will you be asleep?

No!  When you are hypnotised, you will not be asleep.  You will be relaxed and aware of your surroundings. The subconscious mind is aware of everything that is happening.

What does hypnosis feel like?

My clients report enjoying their hypnotherapy, finding it pleasurable and relaxing.  When you are hypnotised, you might:

  • Feel tingling in your hands and feet
  • Feel a light, floating feeling or
  • Heaviness in your arms or legs, meaning that you don’t really want to move.
  • Experience watery or dry eyes
  • Experience a long time as passing very quickly.

Some Client Testimonials

L February 2024

Charlotte is absolutely brilliant! I can’t recommend her enough. She helped me work through my severe anxiety and emetaphobia, learning how to change my subconscious thoughts and take back control of my life. I didn’t know what to expect with hypnotherapy but Charlotte made it the easiest experience, talking it through with me and making it all so comfortable. I finally feel as though I can live without fear. Thank you Charlotte!!

K May 2022

I had seen the ad for Hadleigh Hypnotherapy in a local magazine, and since hypnotherapy seemed to be able to help with breaking a long-standing habit that I wished to change but had struggled to do so, I contacted Charlotte. She answered promptly and we set up an initial consultation meeting, so she could get a sense of what I was looking for and also for me to feel this was something I felt would be beneficial to me.

I had had filled out some forms to inform our initial discussions (I have been very impressed throughout with the detailed thoroughness of Charlotte’s preparation and tailoring of the therapy to the specific needs of her clients). I went in not really knowing what to expect of hypnotherapy, but found Charlotte warm, open and compassionate and she explained the approach of the therapy to me, reassuringly emphasizing that nothing could be done, even when I was in trance, without my permission.

I found the hypnosis gave very rapid results, noticeable even after one session. At each session, we would touch base on where I was in general, and in progress on the therapy. At each session I found the therapy deeply relaxing – itself highly restorative – and felt very comfortable trusting Charlotte to guide each session, integrating suggestions that were relevant to our opening conversation. I was also pleased to have access to the hypnosis as recordings at home, so that I could reinforce the work to myself between sessions, something I feel was important in helping to strengthen my abilities to make the changes I wished to.

I have been amazed at the life-changing changes Charlotte was able to help me unlock in such a short time of working together. I would highly recommend her to anyone seeking to change habits in which they feel stuck.

I have been having weekly sessions with Charlotte and it has helped me resolve some issues that have bothered me for decades. Charlotte is excellent at what she does and I highly recommend this service

E July 2022

I highly recommend Charlotte. I went to her to deal with stress management having become overwhelmed with a section of my life. Charlotte was very kind, non judgmental and understanding and she helped me understand and cope with my stresses. I had a very positive experience.
Thank you Charlotte.

F August 2022

I highly recommend Charlotte at Hadleigh Hypnotherapy. She is very friendly, puts you at ease and really does listen to you. I truly felt that we worked together rather than I was being 'treated' and felt that she had real empathy.

I booked in for help to give up smoking, as it is a requirement that I am a non-smoker before I have surgery, I mention this to give context that I was not 100% committed to quitting when I booked the sessions.

Charlotte was really friendly and understanding of where I was and what my motivation was. She clearly explained the process and gave me options of stopping immediately or (not her first choice) reducing over time. I definitely entered my first session favouring the reducing over time approach, I even left the first session planning on having a cigarette. To my amazement when I got home and had a clear opportunity to smoke I chose not to and I have not touched a single cigarette over the last 4 weeks. I still go out and chat to my wife while she smokes and even suggest she has a cigarette break and I just chat to her.

I have had 3 sessions with Charlotte and we have now agreed I do not need anymore, but will seek her out if I feel I need any support in the future.

Without Charlotte's help I would not have achieved becoming a non-smoker so easily and I cannot recommend her highly enough. Charlotte, thankyou!

T July 2023

We approached Charlotte to discuss the possibility of her helping our 8yr old daughter, who had recently been diagnosed with Functional Abdominal Pain and who had missed a considerable amount of school. Having done some research, it appeared that hypnotherapy could be beneficial in helping her to cope with this recurring pain and we particularly liked the fact that Charlotte is registered with the Hypnotherapy in Schools Programme.

Our initial consultation involved Charlotte getting to know our daughter, discussing the problem in further detail and providing us with realistic expectations of the outcome. Charlotte’s warm and caring manner immediately helped to put both myself and our daughter at ease and the treatment room is a cosy, comfortable and relaxed environment.

Over the past few weeks, Charlotte has established a trusting relationship with our daughter. She has taken great care to find out what she responds to, spoken to her directly throughout and taken the time to personally tailor the sessions, each one of which our daughter has really looked forward to. In addition, following each appointment, Charlotte has sent us recordings which our daughter has been able to listen to at home.

We have now had five sessions with Charlotte and our daughter’s pain definitely appears to have become more manageable. The bouts of pain are less severe, not as lengthy as they were initially and appear to be happening less frequently. Our daughter has had much less time off school recently and has also been able to resume all of her out of school activities. In addition, we feel that she has grown in confidence, which has been a lovely and unexpected bonus.

Overall we feel that this has been a really positive experience for which we are very grateful and we would highly recommend Charlotte to anyone considering hypnotherapy.

Charlotte is wonderful, I’d highly recommend her services. I have approached Charlotte on two separate occasions and found her to be not only very professional but extremely kind and understanding. My time working with Charlotte was always positive and deeply relaxing, I always felt welcomed, listened to and the support given was unfailing. The hypnotherapy itself I found to work very quickly, and to have recordings to take away I found very beneficial. The help she has given me is immeasurable and I am extremely grateful.
