About me

Are you ready for something to change?

Perhaps you're tired of anxiety taking up so much space in your life. You might be constantly overthinking, struggling to switch off, doubting yourself or finding yourself caught in the same patterns despite knowing you want things to be different.

Maybe you'd like to feel calmer and more confident, stop worrying so much about what other people think, say no without feeling guilty, or feel more in control of your thoughts and reactions.

You don't necessarily need to know why you feel the way you do before you begin. Sometimes you simply know that the way you're feeling isn't working for you anymore.

Hypnotherapy can help you work towards the changes you want to make, without spending session after session going over everything that has happened in your past.

How I work

My approach to hypnotherapy is warm, practical and focused on you and what you would like to change.

We'll start by looking at what's happening in your life now and what you would like to be different.

Perhaps you'd like to quieten the constant overthinking, respond more calmly in situations that currently overwhelm you, feel more confident in yourself or stop automatically falling into patterns that you know aren't helping you.

Hypnotherapy allows us to work with some of the thoughts, beliefs and automatic responses that can be difficult to change through willpower or conscious thinking alone.

You're always in control during hypnosis. It's not something that's "done to you". We work collaboratively, and I'll explain what we're doing as we go along.

Although I'm interested in understanding where patterns may have come from, we don't have to spend lots of time revisiting your past to create change in the present.

Sometimes understanding an earlier experience can be useful. At other times, we can focus much more on where you are now, the resources you already have and how you would like to think, feel or respond differently in the future.

Because I'm also a qualified counsellor and EMDR practitioner, I can adapt the way we work if something deeper does emerge. You don't have to fit yourself around one particular therapeutic approach.

Hypnotherapy may help you if you want to:

Feel calmer and less overwhelmed by anxiety
Stop overthinking everything
Feel more confident in yourself and your decisions
Reduce self-doubt and negative thinking
Say no without automatically feeling guilty
Respond differently to situations that currently trigger strong reactions
Break patterns or habits that no longer work for you
Feel more comfortable speaking up for yourself
Improve your self-esteem and self-worth
Feel less affected by experiences from your past
Manage stress more effectively
Feel more like yourself again
What can hypnotherapy feel like?

Many people come to hypnotherapy because they've already tried to think their way out of a problem.

You may know logically that you don't need to worry, but still feel anxious.

You may know you have every right to say no, but still feel guilty when you do.

You may know that you're capable, but still have a voice inside telling you that you're not good enough.

Or you may understand perfectly well that something happened a long time ago, yet find yourself reacting as though it's still happening now.

This is where hypnotherapy can offer a different way of working.

Rather than simply telling yourself to think differently, we can work with the beliefs, feelings and automatic responses that sit underneath the problem and help you develop new ways of responding.

The aim is always to help you take what we do in the therapy room back into your everyday life.

Perhaps that's speaking up instead of staying quiet.

Going somewhere without anxiety taking over.

Making a decision without asking everyone else what they think first.

Having a difficult conversation without spending days replaying it afterwards.

Or simply noticing that something which used to feel really difficult doesn't have quite the same hold over you anymore.

A flexible approach

Although hypnotherapy is at the heart of my work, I don't believe one approach works for everyone.

I'm also an integrative counsellor and EMDR practitioner, which means I can draw on different ways of working when appropriate.

This can be particularly helpful if you know that something from your childhood or past experiences may be contributing to the difficulties you're experiencing now, but you don't necessarily want therapy to be centred around repeatedly talking about the past.

We can acknowledge what happened without allowing it to become the whole focus of who you are today.

Taking the first step

You don't need to know which type of therapy you need before contacting me.

I offer a free 15-minute consultation where you can tell me a little about what you'd like help with, ask any questions about hypnotherapy and get a sense of whether working together feels right for you.
