About me
Alexia Smith, Clinical Hypnotherapist and Psychotherapist located in Exeter, Devon and Online. Specialising in trauma, depression, anxiety, stress, fears (like fear of flying) and phobias, addictions (alcohol abuse, quit smoking), weight control and eating issues.
Alexia is a qualified Clinical Hypnotherapist, having gained her Certificate, Diploma and Post-Graduate Practitioner's Diploma from the London College of Hypnosis (LCCH). She has been a member of the British Society of Clinical Hypnosis (BSCH), since 2006 and a member of the General Hypnotherapy Register (GHR) since 2009. In 2015 she completed her Diploma in Psychotherapy with the Human Givens Institute. She has continued to develop her skills year on year, and is currently studying to be a Somatic Educator.
Alexia managed three busy private practices in Exeter, Barnstaple and Tiverton, Devon for 18 years. More recently her Online work has grown exponentially. Alexia says opening up the practice Online, has enabled her work to be accessed by clients from all around the World. She still continues to practice in Exeter for those still looking for face to face appointments.
Alexia works with clients who have a variety of problems including trauma, anxiety, phobias, addictions, habits, depression and confidence issues. In her sessions she combines Clinical Hypnotherapy with techniques from Psychotherapy, Human Givens, Neuro-linguistic Programming (NLP), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Life Coaching, Somatic Coaching and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy. She is a trained practitioner of EMDR and the Rewind Technique; ground-breaking techniques used in the treatment of Post-traumatic Stress Disorder. She has also trained in issues around fertility and menstrual health with Sjanie Hugo, a fertility expert and author of Wild Power and The Fertile Body Method.
Alexia worked at a Weight Loss Boot Camp from 2008 - 2012, which she says has given her a wealth of experience in her field. Working with clients from all over the world from different cultures and backgrounds, she developed a programme which assists the client to feel back in control of their eating and weight. In 2010, Alexia introduced the Hypno-band to her programme, which uses hypnosis to create a virtual gastric band.
Alexia offers Hypnotherapy and Counselling services to many organisations, and has worked with companies such as The Red Poppy Company, Bitpod, North Devon Housing, United Response, Eat That Frog, Devon & Cornwall Police, South West Ambulance Trust, Devon Air Ambulance, Avon Fire, Ted Wragg Academy Trust, Devon County Council and ROC College.
Prior to working as a Hypnotherapist, Alexia studied Psychology at St Johns University, York. After graduating in 1997, she worked for a Community Mental Health Team in Berkshire an experience she says, "Has given me a greater understanding of the issues surrounding mental illness and the effects on the individual and their families."
Alexia has a wealth of experience in many areas of physical, emotional and mental health. She has a really positive attitude and clients have said how comfortable she has made them feel from the moment they meet her.
