About me

Hello and welcome

You have just taken a major step to find the light at the end of your tunnel. This suggests that you're ready to change and move on.

I can help you find your own special route to feeling happy and confident so that you can look forward to the positive and fulfilling future that should be yours. We can do this together, either online or in person, without dwelling on previous hurts and anxieties.

You will also learn some ways of dealing with possible future issues, when life’s inevitable problems try to trip you up.

Hypnotherapy uses hypnosis to achieve fast, lasting results, tackling phobias as well as anxiety and stress. It is a powerful tool  providing a safe relaxation that gives you a break from your nagging inner voice that’s always “on-the-go”.

Training, qualifications & experience

Clinical Hypnotherapist

I trained as a Solution Focused Brief Therapy hypnotherapist with the Clifton Practice for Hypnotherapy Training (CPHT). This involved 10 months of practical and classroom work, dealing with clients from the outset.  Eight written case studies were required to qualify, as well as evidence of knowledge about other therapies (such as psychotherapy, CBT, NLP and humanistic counselling), running a hypnotherapy practice and being professional in every way.

The Association for Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (AfSFH) was set up to provide information about a modern form of Hypnotherapy and its associated benefits to members of the public. The main aim of the AfSFH is to spread awareness of the benefits of Solution Focused Hypnotherapy. Its secondary aim is to support Hypnotherapists in their businesses by encouraging good practice and self-care.

Further information

A few testimonials:

Phobias (of medical procedures and blood)

"I just wanted to drop you a email to thank you for your therapy sessions, can't quite believe I'm saying this, but it has worked and I now no longer go into panic mode or feel faint around blood!

Thank you for your help, I will be recommending you to my friend who has similar phobias." - HC

Depression and anxiety

“I can't thank Sylvia enough for the help she gave me in recovering from the depression and anxiety I suffered from for months during lockdown environment.

I was initially sceptical but agreed to give hypnotherapy a go and haven't looked back since.

We started just with relaxation sessions, which are like a sort of guided meditation. To my great surprise, they calmed my frantic mind immediately and I began to look forward to them very much. I was undergoing CBT through the NHS at the time too and, although my practitioner was helpful and the CBS useful, there was always the pressure of time. That wasn't the case with Sylvia. She always made me feel completely relaxed and, for some reason I can't quite put my finger on, I felt it was much easier to open up and be honest about my feelings with her.

We had a number of sessions over a few months and after each I felt a little more grounded and a little less lacking in motivation. Although it was the CBT and the hypnotherapy, hand in hand, that helped me recover, I would give the lion's share of the credit to Sylvia. She is calm, understanding, thoughtful and has a lovely reading voice - I have a recording of her reading a relaxation script and still use it. ” - LA

Irritable Bowel Syndrome

“I have irritable bowel syndrome, (IBS) which had been so troublesome for months that I felt desperate.  There was nothing specific that caused it except possibly my habitually stressed, anxious and tense state of mind.

So I underwent a short course of hypnotherapy with Sylvia Miller . . .  I felt an immediate improvement from the very first session, something which I would not have believed possible. I experienced a reduction in my fears from the outset.

. . .my IBS is so much better and I don’t worry or stress about it… This has helped with all aspects of my life and I now feel confident that I can deal with any further attacks” - FD

Low Self-Esteem

“I came to Sylvia in October 2020 suffering from extreme anxiety, so extreme was that anxiety that my body mimicked heart attack several times a day. . . .  It was all in my head the doctor said as he left me to my own devices.

The hypnotherapy is a definite life changer, but I found Sylvia herself as the therapist was also a huge part of the healing.

A lovely lady who invokes trust, which is immensely important to me, she was very patient with me throughout the entire process, encouraging, motivating, interesting, non judgemental. She helped me find my mojo, helped put a smile back on my face and a spring in my step. I cannot recommend her highly enough and I will forever be grateful. " - SH
