About me

Hi, I’m Susan Grainger

As a therapist, I believe that every person’s path toward healing is unique — there is no one-size-fits-all approach. My work is grounded in flexibility, curiosity, and collaboration. I draw from a range of therapeutic modalities, tailoring each session to meet the specific needs of my clients. Whether we’re exploring patterns through reflection and insight, engaging creativity and imagination, or finding practical strategies for daily life, our work together is guided by what feels most meaningful and effective for you.

I have a particular focus on working with children, young people, and their families, creating a space where emotions can be understood, relationships strengthened, and growth supported.

Therapy, to me, is a collaborative process; a meeting place of intuition and evidence-based practice. I bring an open, imaginative spirit to every session, creating an environment that honours individuality, fosters connection, and supports each person’s unique journey toward healing and self-discovery.

I understand how difficult that first, all important move towards tackling an issue; it can bring on feelings of anxiety and vulnerability. Having a clear outline of what to expect can help to ease any worries.

A typical session would be a mixture of:

  • Discussion, so there is clear understanding on your take on the issue
  • Exploration, of what the desired outcome is
  • Practical hints and tips to take away and use in everyday life
  • Hypnotherapy and psychotherapy intervention

I offer a free consultation to explore the issues and how you feel about them and then formulate a plan from there.

Training, qualifications & experience

  • Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy Practitioners Diploma
  • Inner Child and Trauma Therapy
  • Solution Focus Therapy Practitioner
  • Emotional Freedom Therapy (EFT)
  • Hypnotherapy With Children Practitioner
  • Hypnotherapy in Schools Practitioner (Staff and students)
  • Certificate in Stress Management
  • Virtual Gastric Band

I am also a Hypnotherapy tutor at Mind Works Nottingham where I also trained and I have gained a Certificate in Hypnotherapy Supervisor - accredited by the NCP.

I am a certified "Hypnotherapy with Children" therapist and a Hypnotherapy in Schools Practitioner which I am proud to have achieved last year as I have a 22 year background in working alongside children and parents and carers within the Social Care and Voluntary sector and more recently in the NHS. This has added a new dimension to my work, an extra source, using all the basic hypnotherapy techniques, tailored to work specifically with children. I feel this knowledge and experience allows me to be a very effective therapist when it comes to matters involving family relationships form early parenting, helping to support those crucial initial bonds, to dealing with teenagers, working co-operatively to build strong, healthy relationships.

GHR
The General Hypnotherapy Register (GHR)

Hypnotherapists may become members of the General Hypnotherapy Register if they satisfy certain criteria with regard to both training and ongoing requirements as determined from time to time by the General Hypnotherapy Standards Council (GHSC). Members are either registered at Practitioner status (which confirms that the GHR acknowledges their qualification to practice), or Affiliate status. Although Affiliate level registrants will have completed a sufficient number of training hours to equip them to commence seeing clients on a limited basis, the GHR does not acknowledge them to have yet been trained to full practitioner level. All GHR Registered Practitioners are required to accept the published Code of Ethics and Complaints & Disciplinary Procedure.

Areas of hypnotherapy I deal with

Information about health conditions (*)

Hypnotherapy can enhance the well-being of individuals diagnosed with serious medical conditions, but should not take the place of medical treatment and advice. If you have been diagnosed with - or suspect you may have - any of these conditions, please speak to your doctor before starting hypnotherapy.

Other areas of hypnotherapy I deal with

Children's issues such as bedwetting, thumb sucking, anxiety and sleep issues. Also, friendships, bullying, confidence and anxiety problems in the older age group. With young people having more access to social media, they can be overwhelmed with information that they find difficult to process.

Working collaboratively with parents/carers, together we can help understand and resolve the problems.
