About me
Hello, I’m Melissa, founder of Belief Dynamics Hypnotherapy in Harpenden.
I specialise in hypnotherapy for children, teenagers and working-age men—two groups who often struggle with stress, anxiety and pressure but for who hypnotherapy may not be seen as the natural solution.
Using practical, evidence-informed hypnotherapy, I help people overcome challenges such as anxiety, stress, low confidence, sleep problems, phobias, IBS, habits, chronic pain and emotional overwhelm. By working with the subconscious mind, hypnotherapy helps change unhelpful patterns of thinking, feeling and behaviour so life can begin to feel calmer, clearer and more manageable.
I combine evidence-based hypnotherapy techniques, neuroscience-informed coaching, and mind–body approaches to help clients shift from problem-focused thinking to solution-focused action. With over 30 years’ experience in healthcare communications, my approach is practical, compassionate and empowering—helping you feel calmer, stronger, more confident and back in control of your life.
I work from my welcoming practice room in Harpenden and also offer online hypnotherapy sessions, making support accessible for clients across Hertfordshire and the UK.
Helping children build calm and confidence
Many parents come to me when their child is struggling with anxiety, worries, school pressure, exam stress, sleep difficulties, fears or low confidence.
Using the Hypno4Children® approach, sessions are gentle, engaging and practical, helping children develop calmness, confidence and emotional resilience so they can feel more comfortable at school, at home and in everyday life.
Children don’t need to be good at explaining their feelings for hypnotherapy to help – sessions work gently with imagination, drawing, play and the subconscious mind, allowing change to happen naturally and comfortably. Even children who are shy, quiet or struggle to talk about their feelings often respond very well to this approach.
Supporting men under pressure
Many of the men I work with come for help with stress, anxiety, sleep problems, anger, work pressure or feeling mentally overwhelmed.
Men often carry significant responsibility for work, finances and family life, yet may not feel comfortable talking openly about their struggles. Hypnotherapy can be particularly effective because it focuses on practical change and mental clarity, helping men regain calm, focus and a sense of control without needing to endlessly talk about problems.
Areas I can help with
Anxiety, Stress & Low Confidence
I help you find your calm, reduce worry, build resilience and develop a stronger sense of self-belief.
Sleep Problems & Insomnia
Hypnotherapy can help you relearn how to relax, reset your mind and drift into deep, restorative sleep more naturally.
Phobias & Fears
Including fear of flying, needles, blushing, public speaking and other specific fears. Together we work to release the subconscious patterns that keep the fear in place.
Habits & Addictive Patterns
Including smoking, alcohol, gambling, nail biting and other unwanted behaviours. Hypnotherapy helps break subconscious cycles and build healthier, lasting patterns.
Weight Management & Eating Behaviours
Together we explore and reshape subconscious beliefs around food, body image and self-worth to support sustainable change.
Chronic Pain & Mind–Body Conditions
Using the OldPain2Go® approach, we work with the subconscious mind to address the patterns and triggers that may be maintaining chronic pain.
Performance, Focus & Motivation
Whether in sport, study or work, hypnotherapy can help you release old fears, sharpen focus and unlock your confident, capable self.
If you're unsure whether hypnotherapy could help, I’m always happy to have a brief initial conversation to explore whether it feels like the right approach for you, or your child.

Member organisations
The British Society of Clinical Hypnosis (BSCH) is a national professional body whose aim is to promote and assure high standards in the practice of hypnotherapy. There are various types of membership of BSCH, including associate members, full members, diplomats and fellows. Registration demands good quality training, ethical practice and adherence to a code of conduct.
The CNHC encompasses many types of alternative therapy, including hypnotherapy.
In order to be admitted to the register a practitioner must have studied to the National Occupational Standards for that profession/discipline, or have reached the equivalent of the National Occupational Standards through other relevant training or at least three years of experience and been assessed by their peers.
A practitioner must also have professional insurance and agree to abide by the CNHC Code of Conduct, Performance and Ethics.
Hypnotherapists may become members of the General Hypnotherapy Register if they satisfy certain criteria with regard to both training and ongoing requirements as determined from time to time by the General Hypnotherapy Standards Council (GHSC). Members are either registered at Practitioner status (which confirms that the GHR acknowledges their qualification to practice), or Affiliate status. Although Affiliate level registrants will have completed a sufficient number of training hours to equip them to commence seeing clients on a limited basis, the GHR does not acknowledge them to have yet been trained to full practitioner level. All GHR Registered Practitioners are required to accept the published Code of Ethics and Complaints & Disciplinary Procedure.
The National Council for Hypnotherapy holds one of the largest registers of independent Hypnotherapists in the United Kingdom and strives to maintain the highest standards among its members. There is an agreed Code of Conduct, an established Complaints & Disciplinary Procedure and all members are obliged to maintain comprehensive Public Liability & Professional Indemnity Insurance, maintain regular CPD (continuing professional development) hours, and attend Supervision when needed.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
Areas of hypnotherapy I deal with
info Information about health conditions (*)
Hypnotherapy can enhance the well-being of individuals diagnosed with serious medical conditions, but should not take the place of medical treatment and advice. If you have been diagnosed with - or suspect you may have - any of these conditions, please speak to your doctor before starting hypnotherapy.
Other areas of hypnotherapy I deal with
I am a certified Hypno4Children® Practitioner and can help young people learn emotional regulation, how to deal with anxiety, fears, low confidence, sleep problems, or struggles with focus.
I am a certified OldPain2Go® Practitioner and work with people who have been living with Mind-Body Conditions and unresolved chronic pain for many years. This highly successful technique blends logic and neuroscience to help your conscious and subconscious mind recognise that you are safe and no longer need the protective pain alarm.
