About me
Kim Barden – Hypnotherapist & BWRT® Practitioner, Guildford, Surrey.
I help adults who feel stuck in patterns that no longer make sense. Anxiety that will not settle, emotional reactions that feel out of proportion, or past experiences that still affect daily life. My work focuses on creating real change, not long-term coping.
I am an Advanced BrainWorking Recursive Therapy practitioner (BWRT Adv), a clinical hypnotherapist, and a supervisor for the Association for Professional Hypnosis and Psychotherapy. I work from Guildford and also see clients online.
Sessions are calm, structured and respectful. You do not need to relive traumatic experiences in detail for therapy to be effective.
I regularly work with anxiety, trauma, phobias, anger, low self-worth, relationship patterns, smoking and emotional eating.
People usually find their way to me when they are exhausted from managing their own reactions. They may be high-functioning on the outside but inside feel anxious, triggered, overwhelmed or stuck repeating patterns they cannot shift on their own.
I work in a calm, practical way, focusing on helping your brain update outdated threat responses rather than analysing problems endlessly. You do not need to revisit painful memories in detail for the work to be effective.
I specialise in BrainWorking Recursive Therapy and clinical hypnotherapy, and I am an Advanced BWRT practitioner and APHP supervisor. I am based in Guildford and also work online.
Clients often describe feeling lighter, clearer and more settled, sometimes surprisingly quickly.
What is BWRT and how does it help?
BrainWorking Recursive Therapy works directly with the brain’s automatic threat response. This is the part of the mind that reacts before logic has a chance to step in.
BWRT does not involve hypnosis and does not require you to relive distressing events. Instead, we interrupt the old emotional response before it fully fires, allowing the brain to update its reaction permanently.
Clients often choose BWRT because:
It works quickly
It aims for lasting change rather than management
It is structured and logical
It does not rely on willpower or coping strategies
It is particularly effective for anxiety, trauma, phobias, anger and emotional reactivity.
How hypnotherapy can help
Hypnotherapy works with the subconscious mind, where emotional learning and automatic reactions are stored. In a relaxed and focused state, we can change how past experiences are held so they no longer trigger distress in the present.
This often leads to:
Reduced emotional intensity
Improved calm and sleep
Greater emotional resilience
A sense of relief rather than constant effort
The focus is always on safety, respect and forward movement.
Do I have to talk about everything that happened?
No. Both BWRT and hypnotherapy can be effective without detailed disclosure.
Is BWRT hypnosis?
No. BWRT is not hypnosis and works through a different mechanism.
How many sessions will I need?
This varies, but many clients notice meaningful change in fewer sessions than traditional talking therapies.
Who do you work with?
Adults experiencing anxiety, trauma, phobias, anger, low self-worth, relationship issues, and unwanted habits.
If you are ready to feel calmer and more in control, you are welcome to get in touch to arrange an initial conversation.
