About me
Hello, I’m James — Head of Hypnotherapy at BCS Mental Health Services.
I work both online and in person at our Barry office in South Wales, helping clients who want to feel calmer, lighter, and more in control of their lives.
If you’re here, you might be feeling anxious, low, or stuck — tired of overthinking, fed up with the constant ‘what ifs’. You just want to feel better. Maybe you’ve tried other therapies or self-help routes, and while they helped a bit, nothing’s quite clicked yet. You’re ready for change that actually lasts.
That’s where I come in.
I specialise in helping people move forward from anxiety, stress, and low mood. My approach isn’t about dwelling on what’s gone wrong or digging into painful memories. Instead, we focus on where you want to be — and how to get there. My goal is that you leave every session feeling better than when you arrived.
What is Solution Focused Hypnotherapy?
It’s a science-backed approach that combines modern psychotherapy, coaching, and hypnosis to help you retrain your brain. We’ll look at how your mind creates anxiety or low mood — and how to shift those patterns using practical, forward-focused tools.
In hypnosis, you’re not “under” or out of control. It’s more like being deeply relaxed, the same kind of focus you get when daydreaming. That calm state allows your brain to create new, healthier thought patterns and emotional responses.
What sessions are like
Our first session is about understanding you — your challenges, your goals, and how you’d like to feel. I’ll also explain how the brain works and why you’ve been feeling the way you do. For many people, that explanation alone is a turning point.
Each session includes two parts:
Talking – we explore what’s been going well, and build small, realistic steps forward.
Hypnosis – a guided, relaxed process that helps your brain lock in those changes.
It’s comfortable, often uplifting, and yes — there’s often laughter! Change doesn’t have to feel heavy.
Why work with me
I’ve been practising since 2018, trained at the Clifton Practice (CPHT) under David Newton, and I’m a registered member of the CNHC, NCH, NHS, and Association for Solution Focused Hypnotherapy.
I take pride in offering a space that’s friendly, professional, and empowering — a space where you can feel safe to change. Clients often tell me they feel lighter, clearer, and more hopeful after our sessions together.
If you’re ready to start feeling more like you again, get in touch. We’ll take it one session at a time — the aim is that you’ll leave each one feeling a little better than before.
