Hello, I'm Katie, a clinical Solution Focused Hypnotherapist and Psychotherapist.
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is the only hypnotherapy under scientific study, producing amazing results. It is the gold standard of hypnotherapy, focusing on the solution, not dwelling on the past. Training, qualifications & experience
I trained with CPHT (Clifton Practice Hypnotherapy Training) and hold a Diploma in Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (DSFH) and Hypnotherapy Practitioner Diploma(HPD).
I am registered with the AfSFH, NCH and CNHC. I am fully insured and hold an enhanced DBS.
I am currently completing my training as a Senior Lecturer for CPHT.
I originally trained as a teacher (BA Hons Primary Education with QTS) and taught in schools for a number of years. I was led to Solution Focused Hypnotherapy myself when I went through a low time in my life. I felt alone and confused, lacked confidence and had a very negative mindset. I stumbled across a Solution Focused Hypnotherapist in my local community, purely by coincidence. After only 6 sessions with her, my mindset had completely changed, I was able to make confident decisions and I found a new found sense of confidence in myself. The lady mentioned became a good friend of mine, and I will forever be grateful to her for helping me to change my life around, something I aspire to do with my clients. I later realised that it was time for me to move on from teaching, and what better way to do so than to start my Solution Focused Hypnotherapy training with CPHT, a decision that absolutely changed my life.
Association for Solution Focused Hypnotherapy
The Association for Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (AfSFH) was set up to provide information about a modern form of Hypnotherapy and its associated benefits to members of the public. The main aim of the AfSFH is to spread awareness of the benefits of Solution Focused Hypnotherapy. Its secondary aim is to support Hypnotherapists in their businesses by encouraging good practice and self-care.
Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council
The CNHC encompasses many types of alternative therapy, including hypnotherapy.
In order to be admitted to the register a practitioner must have studied to the National Occupational Standards for that profession/discipline, or have reached the equivalent of the National Occupational Standards through other relevant training or at least three years of experience and been assessed by their peers.
A practitioner must also have professional insurance and agree to abide by the CNHC Code of Conduct, Performance and Ethics.
National Council for Hypnotherapy
The National Council for Hypnotherapy holds one of the largest registers of independent Hypnotherapists in the United Kingdom and strives to maintain the highest standards among its members.
There is an agreed Code of Conduct, an established Complaints & Disciplinary Procedure and all members are obliged to maintain comprehensive Public Liability & Professional Indemnity Insurance, maintain regular CPD (continuing professional development) hours, and attend Supervision when needed.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

I am flexible when offering appointments and work to suit your schedule. I offer daytime, evening and Saturday appointments.
Appointments can be face to face from my therapy room at home in Biggleswade or online via zoom. Online sessions are just as effective, giving you the option to be in the comfort of your own home.

1. What is Solution Focused Hypnotherapy?
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is unique and highly innovative. A highly effective and safe form of talking psychotherapy combined with relaxation techniques known as hypnosis. It is based entirely on neuroscience. Solution Focused Hypnotherapy lies on the very cutting edge of psychological services, being the only therapy with a dedicated research programme and strong background in current nonscientific understanding of the brain. It is a great way to change the way you act, feel and behave, helping to change people’s thought patterns for the better and hence eliminating a number of symptoms that come as a result of anxiety, depression or stress.
2. Who will benefit?
Almost anyone! I see people from many walks of life who are struggling with a range of symptoms such as anxiety, depression, OCD, IBS, panic attacks, low confidence and insomnia to name but a few.
3. What is hypnosis? Will I be put to sleep?!
No, not in the way that you may think. Hypnotherapy couldn’t be any further away from the clock swinging images you may have in your mind! Hypnosis (commonly referred to as trance) is ordinary in many ways, we go into it many times a day, when we are driving, out walking, watching television etc. We do it all the time. It is a perfectly natural state in which you have full control at all times. Hypnosis or trance is a special focusing of the consciousness which is brought about through relaxation, when we are in this state we have access to the subconscious mind, enabling us to make positive decisions and move forward in life. You won’t have to speak or do anything at all, other than sit back and listen to the sound of my voice with some relaxing music playing in the background.
Many people believe that hypnotherapy is something that is ‘done’ to them, that they explain their issue to the therapist who then simply hypnotises their problem away, as if by magic. But Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is a much more collaborative process and it’s important to understand that change happens because you want it to and because you are prepared to take the necessary steps to allow it to happen.
4. Will I have to talk about my past?
Not at all. Solution Focused Hypnotherapy does not address the past in any way. We focus on the present and helping you to move forward in life.
5. How many sessions will I need?
You will be pleased to know we work very quickly. Usually between 6-12 sessions is all that is needed. However, this is entirely dependant on the individual.

Before I began seeing Katie my life was in turmoil, having being diagnosed with cancer I was finding it virtually impossible to stay calm and stop my mind working over time. I began meeting Katie weekly for hypnosis, in a calm and relaxing environment. Katie is understanding and friendly, making me feel able to open up and share my thoughts and feelings. ‘Changed my thought process’

‘I can tackle any new obstacles’
I went to Katie as I was struggling with anxiety so a friend suggested that I should try hypnotherapy to see if that could help. I had no previous experience of hypnotherapy or counselling and was very curious about it all. Straight away Katie made me feel comfortable and relaxed and able to express myself and my feelings. At first Katie did a consultation session which she explains in detail how different parts of the brain work which gave me a deeper understanding of the hypnotherapy process. After 4 sessions I already noticed some results as I felt calmer happier and in general a lot less anxious. We discussed strategies to cope with the anxiety and she explained in depth how to empty my ‘stress bucket’ by thinking positively. Katie recognised that the main anxieties were coming from public speaking so she decided a different strategy with me which focused on this, which helped me complete a presentation at work. During this presentation it was the most confident I had ever spoken and felt. I am thoroughly pleased I went to see Katie and although I only had a few sessions she has made me feel like I can tackle any new obstacles in life. ‘Beginning to smile again’
The Autumn of 2018 turned my life upside down, my 3rd grandson was born prematurely and was critically ill and during the same weekend my beloved partner passed away. This was followed by my son being the victim of an unprovoked attack and sustaining severe brain trauma and the passing of my grandmother, all within six months of each other. This amount of trauma had such an enormous effect on me: I felt lost; and out of control; I couldn’t sleep; although when I did I had the most horrific dreams. I had met Katie through work and when I knew she was looking for people to work with I felt I had nothing to lose, I needed help and although medication from my doctor had helped a little bit, the feeling of panic and loss were overwhelming. Katie is very friendly and welcoming and working with her has been amazing. During my first session she explained about how your brain deals with trauma by using responses to previous trauma and this made so much sense. At first I found it difficult to list anything positive that had happened but as the weeks went by I began to really appreciate all the positive things I have in my life. Katie was always calm and encouraging and her therapy room is very comfortable and relaxing, and her snugly blankets offer just the right amount of comfort! I think it took about 9 weeks for me to start to feel more like myself, I began to sleep soundly through the night and remain calm and unanxious. I would recommend hypnotherapy to anyone considering it. It has been amazing I feel so much lighter and brighter and am beginning to smile again.

‘More positive than I can remember’

‘I found myself’
Katie was recommended to me by a friend who had attended her sessions. I wasn’t really sure what to expect having never spoken to anyone, apart from a couple of friends, about my lack of love for myself. I attended four sessions during lockdown via zoom which I found very relaxing. I found Katie very calm, soothing, non judgemental and easy to talk to. She helped me concentrate on the positives and she asked questions that made me question why I was acting in certain ways and who I was doing it for. Katie lead me to question what made me happy and feel good about myself. I stopped comparing myself to other people, stopped judging other people and concentrated on the positives. One of the things Katie asked me to do was write a list of the things that made me happy/smile. These could be anything from hearing the birds sing to laughing at something I heard/read. This is something I will continue to do. Another thing I will continue to do is listen to the tapes that Katie sent me. I may even get to the end of one without falling asleep! ‘Biggest spider I’ve ever dealt with by far!’
I had worse than a fear of spiders to be honest. I had full blown arachnophobia. I had nightmares about them most nights, had invasive thoughts during the day, couldn’t use our bath (would only shower instead so I could get out quick if one appeared) and had a breakdown last year where I nearly left home because I genuinely believed we had an infestation (we didn’t)! Exposure therapy didn’t work and citalopram took the edge off but it wasn’t until Katie helped me that I have finally got to the point of dealing with them! When I went to get on a zoom call earlier there was a whopper of a spider on the wall. I caught it with my new spider catcher and it sat next to me throughout the meeting until I then released it outside. Biggest spider I’ve ever dealt with by far. If it’d been 6 months ago I would have had to conduct the zoom call elsewhere, would have felt physically sick and become really teary. Thank you Katie!
