Hypnotherapy for confidence – Be all you can be
So how do we quantify confidence? How is it measured? Some people appear to have ‘bags’ of confidence whilst others seem to have none. Others have ‘loads’ whilst some have only a little. Some people have too much and are perceived as ‘overconfident’ yet again; others come across as not having enough.
You can’t hold confidence in your hand, it is not an object, and therefore no two people will measure it in the same way. Many people will say they have no confidence at all; however they are normally measuring it against someone else’s performance. Individuals will claim they want to be ‘more’ confident. Subconsciously they are able to recognise they must already be confident to make this claim but again, it is their perception as to what being confident really means.
Public speaking is the number one fear in most people yet the actions of the speaker is the same whether they are speaking to one person or 100. It is only their perception of public speaking that is the issue. Fear is often formed at a young age whilst still at school. Being asked to stand up in front of the whole class and read out an essay or answer a question brings on the fear of being judged or getting it wrong and getting poor feedback for their efforts. The anxiety builds up leading to a feeling of dread for the next time, the dread of being inadequate in front of their peers and the feeling of being incompetent results in a lack of confidence being instilled.
Many people believe that confidence is an all or nothing concept. ‘I can’t talk in front of a large crowd therefore I have no confidence’ or ‘I could never learn to drive – I have no confidence’. However, confidence comes in many shapes and forms. The young mother who believes she has no confidence finds herself in front of the principal demanding what he is going to do about her son being bullied – that takes confidence. Serving customers in a shop and having a give and take conversation – that takes confidence. Deciding to change your style and going for a whole new look – that takes confidence.
We naturally do everyday things that require a certain degree of confidence yet we ignore these (as we are so confident already doing them that we don’t give them a second thought) and only concentrate on the challenges we believe we need confidence for.
A good hypnotherapist will discuss with their client what the confidence issues are and how they would like to be instead. The therapist will work on building up self-esteem and unlocking the potential that is already there. During hypnosis the therapist will eliminate that fear of rejection and get the client to start believing in themself and to stop seeking approval from others. Through hypnosis the therapist will help the client to develop their inner confidence and help get rid of social anxiety and eliminate any nervousness. The hypnotherapist will help the client create a more powerful self-image enabling them to feel more confident and in control getting rid of any limiting beliefs they may have. The therapist will also provide tools and techniques to speak with confidence and be perceived as a confident person by others. We all have confidence within us, however for many people it is trapped inside and a good therapist can help unlock it allowing the person to live a confident, fulfilling life.
Sometimes a client will only need a few hypnotherapy session once they understand that the confidence is already exists within them. Once they know how to unlock their potential to be as confident as they want to be they will not look back. Others may require several sessions to reaffirm that they and they alone control their confidence levels.
It is important to choose a therapist that has experience in helping people with confidence issues. It is a good idea to speak to the therapist directly to get a feel if they are right for you and ask them to provide testimonials you can speak to if need be.
