The legacy of Dolores Cannon and the natural evolution of QHHT
I love doing QHHT sessions and witnessing first-hand the healing my clients get from them as a result, but I’m always a little wary when people first get in touch to book a session, and then tell me they’ve read all of Dolores Cannon’s books and watched every video of hers on YouTube. I sometimes get the feeling they’re looking for a Dolores Cannon carbon-copy (like a tribute act!), but of course I’m not her, and nor can I ever be.
My early interest in QHHT training
When I decided to do face-to-face training with Dolores, back in 2009, I had already been doing past life regression for eight years, having first trained with Bernadette Jaye at the Institute of Clinical Hypnotherapy in London, and just a few years on, with Dr. Brian Weiss in New York State.
I had read about Dolores’ system of QHHT and was interested to understand how it differed from what I was already doing with my clients, so when I heard she was coming to the UK, I immediately signed up for her training course.
Did I know then that those few days of being with Dolores were going to change my life and my career? Did I have even the faintest idea that QHHT was going to become so popular and sought-after? And did I have any inkling that, in the years that followed, I and all similarly-trained practitioners would see a massive surge in the number of enquiries about QHHT sessions?
No, of course I didn’t! I enjoyed every minute of the training, even though Dolores was an "I speak as I find" kind of person. She was clearly a woman who liked to have a firm hand on the tiller and expected 100% attention and concentration from her students.
She also much preferred to train ‘newbies’ – those who had never done any previous form of hypnotherapy or past life training – and she had no hesitation in saying so! We were quite a small group, and from memory, there were only a couple of us with past life experience, and I was aware that I was under sharp scrutiny throughout the training.
Despite any misgivings she may have had, I came away from the course, clutching my hard-earned certificate, and started using Dolores’ QHHT system in my practice almost immediately.
Developing as a QHHT practitioner
As with all beginners, I started cautiously, unsure of whether I could achieve the same, often remarkable, results as my mentor. I quickly realised that, of course, I couldn’t achieve the same results because I wasn’t Dolores Cannon, so I soon came to understand that I needed to become my own version of Dolores.
This was a pivotal moment, and from there on, I became more confident in facilitating QHHT sessions, always using Dolores’ wise advice and techniques, but also bringing in my own experience and intuition when working with my clients.
And having spoken to a number of other QHHT therapists over the years, I’ve heard them say they came to the same realisation. There is a very ancient quote that says, ‘The student becomes the teacher, ’ which rings true for me. Don’t get me wrong – I’m not suggesting that I or any other QHHT practitioner is better than Dolores, only that each of us has proudly carried the baton, and in doing so, has evolved our own personalised way of facilitating QHHT sessions.
The history of QHHT and Dolores Cannon
Born in St Louis, Missouri, in 1931, Dolores seemingly had a stable upbringing, with no documented traumas. After leaving school at age 16, she did what all girls were expected to do in that era and got married in 1951, aged just 20. Her husband, Johnny, was in the Navy, so she quickly adapted to the role of ‘career wife’, following him to all of his postings, and producing four children along the way.
In the 1960s, she and Johnny started experimenting with hypnosis – a very brave and controversial subject back then – and they had a good degree of success with everyday issues such as weight control and stopping smoking.
Over time, they moved on to exploring past lives with subjects in hypnosis. Without any formal training, Dolores came to understand and induce the deeper state of hypnosis called ‘somnambulism’.
In 1968, she and her husband were involved in a near-fatal car accident, in which Johnny suffered multiple injuries, including the amputation of a leg. As a result of the accident, he became permanently disabled and used a wheelchair from that point on.
Dolores continued with her exploration into past lives, and by the mid-1980s, she was using her regression work to interview alleged abductees and other clients about extra-terrestrial experiences, and began collecting information about ET civilisations, their role in seeding life on Earth, and human-ET soul connections.
In 1968, she wrote her first book, Five Lives Remembered, based on some of her earliest past-life regression sessions, which was only published in 2009 by her own company, Ozark Mountain Publishing.
Dolores subsequently wrote and published a total of 20 books, including the four-book series for which she is probably best known, The Convoluted Universe.
She started teaching her particular ‘brand’ of past life regression in the 1990s, but when her students suggested that ‘advanced past life regression' didn’t reflect the full scope, especially the healing aspect, Dolores re-named it Quantum Healing Hypnosis Technique (QHHT) around 2002.
Dolores died in October 2014, and there are many who would agree that she decided she had achieved her soul purpose and it was time to return home, and continue her healing work from the upper realms.
Tips for finding the right QHHT practitioner
There is a wealth of excellent QHHT practitioners, including here in the UK and, of course, the USA. I am a firm believer that the people who reach out to me for QHHT sessions have been guided to me by their Higher Self, just as other people will be guided to other practitioners. Their Higher Self knows better than they do who is a ‘good match’ for them, so when a new client tells me, ' I felt drawn to you’, I always experience a tiny shiver down my spine.
I’m also often asked if I think Dolores helps me in my work, and I will tell them that I believe she does – especially if I call upon her for guidance. (I like to think she no longer harbours any misgivings about the fact that I had done previous training prior to my QHHT course, now that she’s in spirit form!)
The four most common reasons for people contacting me?
- To know what their life purpose is.
- To clear the blocks that are stopping them from moving forward on their path.
- To understand why it is they have always felt ‘different’ or have never fitted in.
- To seek guidance for a new direction.
How to choose the right QHHT practitioner for you
If you’re interested in working with a QHHT practitioner, my advice to you is as follows:
- Take a little time out to sit quietly or meditate, and ask your Higher Self to guide you to the practitioner who can best help you.
- Do a search for QHHT practitioners and notice any names that ‘jump out’ at you. There may be several or just one.
- Narrow down your search if you need to. Take a little time to read about the practitioner. Don’t look at prices, but focus on which one feels right to you.
- When you believe you’ve found the most appropriate person for you, sit quietly or meditate and ask your Higher Self ‘Is this the person who is best-suited to help me just now?’
