How is QHHT different from past life regression?

This is a question that is frequently asked, so it seemed like a good subject for an article. I will start with a very clear statement that there is no intended criticism of past life regression or the many brilliant PLR practitioners!

You may not be shown a past life

Firstly, and this may shock you, there is no certainty that the experience the client will be shown will be a past life in a QHHT session.

Why might I not be shown a past life?

Most therapeutic practitioners inevitably include some of their own ideas and techniques, based on their experience. Plato wrote: "The student becomes the master" which has a lot of truth in it, and is how everything that is taught evolves and thrives, as knowledge is passed down through the generations.

I wouldn’t dream of calling myself a master, but it would be true to say that I have developed a more personalised version of QHHT over the years, whilst remaining true to Dolores Cannon’s technique – for the simple reason that it works! For example, I will always use her exact words when guiding the client into their experience.  And here they are:

We’re looking for the most appropriate time and place to stop and look at and examine.

You will note that there is no mention of past lives, and that is because we are trusting that the higher self knows best what the client needs to experience in that moment.

If not a past life experience, then what else?

In reality, most clients get to experience a past life, or perhaps they will be shown small segments of several past lives, either as humans or sometimes as extra-terrestrial beings living on other planets. I have also had a small percentage of clients who had the experience of being a spark of consciousness that embarked on a journey where they temporarily moved away from the source of creation and evolved into some form of physical sentience, either on this planet or another planet or universe. And not necessarily human! Rocks, insects, plants, trees and animals, to name but a few.

I have also worked with clients who were taken to one or more phases of the between-life state, giving them the opportunity to re-remember the indescribable feeling of being back 'home'; whilst there, perhaps to repair any soul damage or meet with members of their soul family and work through past life questions or grievances. Some clients have been surprised to find themselves at an earlier time in their current life. And occasionally there are those who are shown future lives.

It is not the therapist's job to interfere with what clients are shown, so whatever comes up, we are there to help them become fully immersed in their experience; then to make sense of it, and finally understand how it can help them move forward in this life.

QHHT vs past life regression: The conversation

Another, very significant, difference between PLR and QHHT is the conversation with the higher self (which Dolores Canon always referred to as the subconscious, but had no problem with the practitioner or client giving it an alternative name).

How can I have a conversation with my higher self?

Many people are quite understandably confused as to how it’s possible to have a conversation with their higher self (HS). They might ask me if they are going to hear a disembodied voice talking to them, or perhaps the HS will speak through the practitioner.

The answer is neither! The client gives me a list of 10 questions for their HS, which we go through together at the start of the session, so I have a clear idea of what it is they want to understand and receive answers for. I ask for permission to speak to the HS, who will speak through the client, using their voice. Remember, the client is still in the deep state of hypnosis called somnambulism, and they have already been coached by me on how to allow their voice to be used.

I liken it to being a professional simultaneous translator, who is not emotionally involved with the words they are translating, nor do they edit them in any way. They simply hear the words being spoken and then translate them. As long as the client’s conscious mind doesn’t pop in and start questioning, I then have the great pleasure of talking with their higher self, and experiencing a level of knowledge and wisdom that almost always surprises the client when they later listen to the recording!

Receiving healing from the higher self

Clients should have already told me about any disorders, diseases and discomfort they are experiencing, so the last part of the session is where I request that the HS does a scan of the body and report any issues, either known or unknown. I will also ask for cleansing of any impurities from food and pollution; and any damage from injections, vaccinations and medications. I may also ask for advice on nutrition or physical fitness. Yoga and meditation are frequent suggestions from the higher self!

Whatever shows up during the scan, I will ask for the reasons why the client has developed these issues. (And you’d be amazed at the replies I get. It’s like finding the missing pieces of a jigsaw and never fails to blow my mind!) I then request that the HS gives healing, and this is nearly always granted and applied. The client may or may not have a physical experience of the healing process, but that won’t affect the outcome. I then ask the HS to confirm that it has been done and to state clearly what the client will experience and when they can expect to feel the changes.

Why might the higher self not give healing?

If the higher self knows that the person has chosen to have a particular disease or illness in order to learn a life lesson, it may be that the timing is not yet right for healing to be given, perhaps because they haven’t yet finished learning that particular lesson. If I hear this, then I will ask the HS what the client needs to do to complete their lesson, and I’ll request that healing be immediately given once this has happened.

Another reason might be that the person has actually chosen to have a particular illness or disability till the end of their life, possibly to work through their karma. Understandably, this is not an easy listen for the client, but I am always surprised by the level of peace and acceptance it seems to bring, once they have time to absorb this information. What is important to understand is that the HS will never interfere with intentionality!

Whatever the response, I always ask for some relief from pain or discomfort, on the basis of 'Don’t ask, don’t get', and almost always the HS will agree to this, even if complete healing is not appropriate.

Who or what is the higher self?

The higher self is a source of great wisdom. It knows everything about you, both in your current life and all of your previous lives. It is the part of you that remains fully connected to the source, whilst you are partially (but never fully) disconnected in order to learn your life lessons. In effect, it is your soul mind. It is always watching over you and giving appropriate help when asked by you to do so.

Some people don’t realise that their requests for help, ideally given clearly and succinctly, are always heard and responded to. The help may not materialise immediately, nor does it always come in the form we are hoping for, but it definitely does come, and our job is to recognise it when it arrives.

Talking with your higher self

The HS loves us to talk to it, but also wants us to give the time and space to listen to the responses! Why don’t you give it a try? Ask a clear and succinct question, then pause and allow the response to come to your awareness. Your bossy conscious mind will probably intervene and tell you that you’re 'making it up', but just ignore it... wait and listen.

Personally, I love to talk to my HS when I’m outside in nature (alone of course!). I ask my question out loud, and then I pause and wait. It might take seconds or even minutes but at some point, the response will come. I like to speak the reply aloud also, as it seems to help me to stay focused. But you can speak to your higher self anywhere at any time, wherever or whenever works for you.

If you have any further questions about QHHT or the higher self – and I’m sure you do – please do get in touch with a QHHT practitioner to learn more.
