About me
Hi, I'm Janet.
With over 20 years' experience in psychological therapies in a trauma service, as well as in mental health services, I am passionate about and experienced in supporting people in achieving their goals and creating the future they want and deserve. I know how tough life can be sometimes, and how overwhelming - whether it's trauma, stress, anxiety, depression, grief, coping with symptoms of menopause/perimenopause or feeling burnt out or stuck in a rut.
I have years of experience working in a trauma service with people who experience life as an emotional roller coaster, who struggle with overwhelming emotions and often do not understand where these feelings come from or shy they feel so extreme, find it difficult to stay in the present moment, and find all sorts of relationships challenging as they often end abruptly or in conflict. This can lead to difficulty planning and leading a "normal" life or indeed finding much enjoyment. Life can feel a real struggle. It can also lead to unhelpful behaviours in an effort to cope with the emotions and also emptiness - self-harm, addictions, avoidance, zoning out, anger, etc. If any of this resonates with you, I can help you create a sense of peace, safety and wellbeing. I love helping people to move forwards, feel more in control, find solutions and create a life they love, and I'm here to work alongside you when you're ready to take the first steps to regain control and feel like yourself again, and create your ideal future.
I'm a qualified Hypnotherapist as well as Occupational Therapist, and I'm passionate about helping women in particular to live their best lives using various different forms of hypnotherapy. You know you're in safe hands with me, as I have worked within the NHS for two decades. I'm a member of the National Hypnotherapy Council (a governing body that sets professional standards and a code of ethics to safeguard clients), and have an enhanced DBS certificate.
I spent two decades working in the NHS in Occupational Therapy as well as psychological therapy, and have basic Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) skills, as well as training in DBT and Schema Therapy, and incorporate elements of these into my sessions to provide and individual service and help you achieve the very best results, no matter where you're at in the process. We can think about developing coping skills and confidence in your own abilities, as well as digging deeper into the reasons why you feel the way you do and processing events that have affected you deeply, and we decide the best way forwards together.
Hypnotherapy gently helps you to change the thought and behaviour patterns that have been stopping you from making effective changes, no matter what the issue.
Why not book a free, no obligation 20 minute telephone consultation to find out how we can help you get the life you want and deserve?
Training, qualifications & experience
I originally qualified as a hypnotherapist in 2010, obtaining a diploma in hypnotherapy and NLP, but have since re-trained in Solution Focussed Hypnotherapy with the Clifton Practice School of Therapy in 2023, completing the HPD qualification as well as obtaining a further diploma in hypnotherapy. I have gone on to undertake training in Parts Therapy and Past Life Regression Therapy.
Before training in Hypnotherapy, I was an Occupational Therapist in the NHS in mental health services, moving into a specialist psychological therapy service for people with early life trauma for the last 10 years of my career. This is where I received training in DBT, Schema Therapy and basic CBT. I have years of experience facilitating group and individual therapy sessions, helping people to develop emotion regulation, anxiety management, anger management, mindfulness, relaxation, distress tolerance and interpersonal skills, as well as ones that focus on challenging the core beliefs that often lead to distress and providing the "emotional vitamins" they missed out on when growing up.
Throughout my career, I have continued to develop my abilities to work with both individuals and groups in a warm and non-judgemental manner, to hold hope when times are hard, and to facilitate transformation. I can't wait to help you make the changes you want when you're ready.
Member organisations
The National Council for Hypnotherapy holds one of the largest registers of independent Hypnotherapists in the United Kingdom and strives to maintain the highest standards among its members. There is an agreed Code of Conduct, an established Complaints & Disciplinary Procedure and all members are obliged to maintain comprehensive Public Liability & Professional Indemnity Insurance, maintain regular CPD (continuing professional development) hours, and attend Supervision when needed.
The Association for Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (AfSFH) was set up to provide information about a modern form of Hypnotherapy and its associated benefits to members of the public. The main aim of the AfSFH is to spread awareness of the benefits of Solution Focused Hypnotherapy. Its secondary aim is to support Hypnotherapists in their businesses by encouraging good practice and self-care.
