How solution-focused hypnotherapy supports small business owners

Business ownership can be an exhilarating ride. The autonomy, the creativity, the flexibility of doing things how you want them done. But it also brings its pressures. The pressure to perform, to grow, to juggle multiple demands and responsibilities all at once. It's tough! (I know, I'm one of them!).

Some days you feel unstoppable. Other days, the weight of your to-do list can hang heavy on your shoulders. The small decisions that add up, the long hours, the fear of making the wrong choice. The restless nights replaying all you could have done differently. I know this well. I’ve had my share of sleepless nights when I run too long on adrenaline and stress.

Now I support other small business owners and entrepreneurs as a solution-focused hypnotherapist

The challenges of small business ownership

Running your own small business or working for a small team means you wear many hats. At different times, you take on the role of marketer, accountant, customer support lead, and the person who does the job itself. It can be an energising experience, but it can also leave you spread too thin.

Many small business owners and entrepreneurs describe feeling pulled in many different directions. Decision paralysis, the looming stack of things to do and think about…. Long days that stretch into evenings and weekends, staying in hyperfocus mode, and running out of energy. Time-sucking tasks that crowd out family time, relaxation, and “rest and digest” activities. Add money worries and the isolation of feeling like there’s nobody else to share the burden with, and it’s no wonder stress accumulates.

What is solution-focused hypnotherapy?

Solution-focused hypnotherapy (SFH) is a modern therapeutic approach that combines elements of solution-focused therapy, coaching, and hypnosis. It’s future-focused and action-oriented. Instead of dwelling on the past, it aims to help you build a clearer picture of your preferred future and take practical steps towards it.

Sessions start with a conversation, as we explore your goals, your best hopes, and what is already within reach. We might also reflect on what has already been good/gone well. After this, you enter a state of gentle trance. Trance is a natural state of focus and relaxation, similar to the absorption you get from a good book or film. In trance, the mind can settle, and it starts to wire new patterns of thought, enabling calmer decision-making towards your preferred future.

What’s different about this approach?

The approach is different because of its balance. It is future-focused like coaching, but with more emotional depth. It is less intense than counselling, as there’s no need to delve into painful memories. And by offering online sessions as well as in-person appointments, we can fit around a busy working life.

How can solution-focused hypnotherapy help support small business owners and entrepreneurs?

Small business owners and entrepreneurs are usually resourceful, determined, and resilient. But these qualities can be a two-edged sword. The drive and ambition that powers small businesses can also become overworking, overthinking, and getting stuck without outside perspectives.

Solution-focused hypnotherapy offers space for clarity when overwhelm or too many decisions are clouding your thoughts. It brings calm when stress is building. It gently supports motivation when procrastination creeps in and strengthens confidence when imposter feelings take hold.

It’s not about changing who you are. It’s about making space to reconnect with that part of yourself that knows how to adapt and move forward.

What might clients notice after sessions?

Clients who’ve tried solution-focused hypnotherapy often say they feel calmer and more grounded. Some find that sleep improves, which helps to start the day with more energy and a sense of purpose. Others notice clearer thinking and focus. They find themselves with more confidence and belief in themselves. Motivation to take action rises while procrastination lessens. It’s common for clients to create clearer boundaries between work and their personal lives.

Shifts like these can help make small business ownership a lighter and easier journey. They can also help make time outside of work feel fuller and richer.

Combining coaching and therapy

For me, solution-focused hypnotherapy offers a meeting point between coaching and therapy. It merges a future focus with the restorative qualities of trance. It isn’t about silver bullets or magic promises, but it can help create the conditions for a positive shift. A small mindset shift can ripple out into wider balance, resilience, and confidence.

Sessions are available online as well as in-person, and they are designed to be flexible around the working life of a busy business owner.

Restoring your balance

Running your own business is never going to be a smooth ride. There will always be highs and lows as part of the journey.
