About me

Hello!

My name is Madeleine Hardus. I'm specialised in helping (peri) menopausal women to make changes to their nutrition and mindset in order to alleviate symptoms including fatigue, hot flushes, night sweats, weight gain and difficulty sleeping.

Struggling with these symptoms can create difficulties and can disrupt your daily life; both work and personal.

I have worked with clients on a range of hormonal symptoms (perimenopausal/ menopausal) and have successfully seen a significant decrease. For each session, my focus is on providing a client-centred, tailored and safe space to work together on a set goal.

What is cognitive behavioural hypnotherapy?

Cognitive behavioural hypnotherapy integrates cognitive behavioural therapy and hypnotherapy to enable you to identify and explore the connectivity between your emotions, thoughts and actions.

A goal is set and integrated across these three areas and can be rehearsed by enhancing imaginal absorption and can change many habits and beliefs by autosuggestion. Hypnosis can increase effectiveness by inducing deep relaxation.

Research shows that cognitive behavioural therapies are more effective when integrated with hypnosis to efficiently and effectively achieve positive long-term change. Combining nutrition with cognitive behavioural hypnotherapy is an even more powerful combination when addressing symptoms.

How I work and my values and ethics

  1. Unique
Every client has their own bio-individuality and therefore, I adjust the healing protocol to your specific needs, symptoms and cultural heritage.
  2. Tailored to your needs and goals
During the initial session, we start with setting SMART goals to clarify your needs and goals.
  3. Step-by-step approach
I'll make sure to communicate with you how quick or slow the implementation can be. Therefore, I offer one-change sessions to make change easier, effective and long-lasting.
  4. Evidence-led
Science and empirical research are an integral part of my education and I'll work accordingly.
  5. Transparency
With psychoeducation, I will provide you with a rationale of the approach I'm taking. And I'll only work with you if your presenting issue is within my scope of competence.
  6. Client-centred and Feedback
Your experience is my top priority. I’ll create a safe and non-judgemental space for you to feel understood and to be honest. Through questioning and feedback, we’ll create a meaningful and effective working alliance together.

Training, qualifications & experience

I've studied Nutrition and Health at Amsterdam University, obtained my master's degree (MSc) in Behavioural Biology at the University of Utrecht and defended my PhD at the University of Amsterdam on the great ape diet & the evolution of the human diet. Furthermore, I specialised in Orthomolecular Nutrition Therapy at the Dutch Ortho Institute and I became a Digestive Intensive Graduate and Full Body System Graduate of the Functional Nutrition Alliance (USA). I obtained my diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy (Dip, CBH level 5) at the UK College of Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy, which specifically focuses on evidence-based practice and is BPS (British Psychological Society) approved.

My training also equips me to deliver relaxation, mindfulness, and assertiveness coaching.

The General Hypnotherapy Register (GHR)

Hypnotherapists may become members of the General Hypnotherapy Register if they satisfy certain criteria with regard to both training and ongoing requirements as determined from time to time by the General Hypnotherapy Standards Council (GHSC).

Members are either registered at Practitioner status (which confirms that the GHR acknowledges their qualification to practice), or Affiliate status. Although Affiliate level registrants will have completed a sufficient number of training hours to equip them to commence seeing clients on a limited basis, the GHR does not acknowledge them to have yet been trained to full practitioner level.

All GHR Registered Practitioners are required to accept the published Code of Ethics and Complaints & Disciplinary Procedure.

Information about health conditions (*)

Hypnotherapy can enhance the well-being of individuals diagnosed with serious medical conditions, but should not take the place of medical treatment and advice. If you have been diagnosed with - or suspect you may have - any of these conditions, please speak to your doctor before starting hypnotherapy.

Other areas of hypnotherapy I deal with

I specialise in nutrition and our mindset, for (peri) menopausal women in the areas of weight management, vasomotor symptoms (hot flashes/night sweats), fatigue and eating habits.
