About me
I'm Emma, an award winning Solution Focused Hypnotherapist in Derbyshire and online.
I work with men and women, specialising in anxiety, panic attacks, insomnia and burnout.
I also work with fears and phobias, stopping smoking and vaping, weight management, relationship breakdowns and big life changes.
Does this sound like you?
Heart racing for no reason. Checking where the exits are before you sit down. Anxiety and panic quietly shrink your world.
Maybe it is the anxiety that hums away all day and gets louder the second you stop moving. The overthinking. The insomnia. The 3am wake up where your brain replays everything you have ever got wrong.
Or maybe it is panic. The sickness, the sweating, the certainty that something is badly wrong and then the worse part, the worrying about the worrying. Cancelling things. Making an excuse not to go, then feeling awful about it. Saying you are fine.
You are probably exhausted from holding it together in front of everyone else.
None of this is you being dramatic, weak or difficult.
It is a nervous system stuck in protection mode that has not yet been given a reason to stand down.
Why this is personal
I had never struggled with my mental health. Life was busy but manageable. Until one day it was not.
Too much had quietly built up while my brain stayed in constant coping mode. Then, like a switch flicking, I had a panic attack somewhere I had been many times before.
After that it spiralled. More places started to feel unsafe. I worried about leaving the house just in case, and the fear of embarrassing myself became as strong as the panic itself. It showed up in my body. Sickness, racing heart, sweating, that feeling of being unwell.
Some days I could not open my curtains. My world got smaller and smaller.
For me, hypnotherapy was what turned it around. I began to understand what was actually happening in my brain, my nervous system settled and I slowly rebuilt a sense of safety and confidence. It was not instant. It was real and it lasted.
Afterwards I wrote a list of every place anxiety had taken from me. I have been back to all of them.
That is why I changed my entire career and retrained because hypnotherapy was the best thing that ever happened to me.
What sessions are like?
We look at where you are now and where you want to be, not at everything that has gone wrong. Then you sit back, close your eyes and relax while I talk. You stay aware and in control the whole time, and you can stop whenever you like. I will also explain what is going on in your brain, which takes a lot of the fear out of it.
In person in Derbyshire (DE72), near Derby and Nottingham or online anywhere in the world.
Online sessions are just as effective as being in the room.

Areas of hypnotherapy I deal with
info Information about health conditions (*)
Hypnotherapy can enhance the well-being of individuals diagnosed with serious medical conditions, but should not take the place of medical treatment and advice. If you have been diagnosed with - or suspect you may have - any of these conditions, please speak to your doctor before starting hypnotherapy.
Other areas of hypnotherapy I deal with
Men
I work with a lot of men who are anxious, not sleeping, overwhelmed and quietly dreading things, while trying their hardest to hold it all together.
A lot of men have been told for years to crack on and not make a fuss. So by the time you are looking at a page like this, it has usually been going on a long while.
You do not have to sit and talk about your childhood and you do not have to talk about your feelings for an hour.
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is practical and forward looking. I will explain what is actually happening in your brain and why your body is behaving the way it is, because for most men that explanation alone changes something.

Further information
What actually happens in your first session
Your initial consultation runs about an hour and it is classed as a working session, not just fact finding and medical forms.
We talk through what has been going on, what you would like to be different, and what you already have going for you.
Then I explain how anxiety, sleep and the stress response actually work in the brain, in plain English and with a few props. This is the part people tell me they wish someone had shown them years ago. By the end you will understand why you have been feeling the way you have and it stops feeling like a personal failing.
We then practise the techniques you will be using between sessions, so you leave knowing exactly what to do rather than trying to remember it later.
You also go home with your first audio recording. You listen to it each night. It is designed so that my voice becomes familiar and associated with winding down, which many clients find makes the hypnosis work in later sessions feel easier and more natural.
So you leave your first session with an explanation, a set of techniques you have already practised, and something to start using that night.
We do not do trance in the first session.
"Will I be under? Will I lose control? Can I get stuck?"
No, no, and no. You stay awake and aware throughout. You cannot be made to do or say anything you do not want to. You can open your eyes and stop at any point. Most people are surprised by how ordinary and pleasant it feels.
Online sessions
I work online with clients across the UK and internationally, including British expats abroad. Online sessions are just as effective as in person, they use the same structure and you get the same recordings.
All you need is a quiet room, laptop with a webcam and a comfortable place to lie back.
