About me

Hello, I'm Craig, and I run Better Nature Therapies, along with my wife Caroline. We provide a range of therapies including hypnotherapy, counselling, health coaching and couples psychotherapy. We are based in practices in Guisborough and Northallerton, as well as offering online sessions.

I'm our Clinical Hypnotherapist, I help many clients with reducing their stress and anxiety levels and associated symptoms including: digestive issues, overthinking, poor sleep, anger, low mood, over and under eating, work stress,  burn out and chronic fatigue to name a few. I also help people to overcome issues relating to performance particularly in adventure sports such as rock climbing.

I understand that taking the first step to contacting someone for support may be daunting and you're likely to have thought about this decision for quite a while, if you like my profile send me a message and we can arrange your free 15 minute consultation with no obligation.

My approach starts with finding out about you, what your main issue is (your presenting problem) and what led you to your current situation and most importantly what outcome you would like. I use several established techniques such as: CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), Solution Focused Therapy, Health Coaching, and Mindfulness. When combined with hypnosis this may aid longer lasting changes.

I'm able to see clients face to face or online. I appreciate that private therapy is not cheap, especially in this economy, so I have added two more cost effective options, for Autumn 2026. A shorter 30 minute session and an online option.

In case you missed it above I offer a free, no obligation (or pressure) 15 minutes phone  consultation - it's important that we can work together and I can make sure my approach is right for you. You may have several questions for me, which I will try and answer!

Training, qualifications & experience

I hold the HPD (Hypnotherapy in Practice Diploma), which is recognised as the gold standard for professional hypnotherapy training   within the UK.

I have a BSc (Hons) in Psychology and a PG Cert in Sport & Exercise Science, which I find very useful in applying theory to practice.

I hold outdoor qualifications including the Rock Climbing Instructor Award (RCI) and Canoe Instructor Award. I have taught thousands of clients over the years from young children to the military and now enjoy using these skills therapeutically.

As a coach I undertake ongoing training as part of my CPD to ensure I provide clients a professional and effective service. My recent training includes:

  • Safeguarding levels 1 & 2
  • Healthy Weight Coach
  • IAPTs CPD (Long COVID)
  • IAPTS CPD (IBS)
  • Certificate in Mindfulness Hypnotherapy
  • Menopause Awareness
  • Therapy Through Hypnosis
  • Therapy Through Nature

My background supporting people started in 1997 as one of the early Family Support Workers in Leeds. Since this time I took a psychology degree, post graduate training in sport and exercise as well as my hypnotherapy training. In the last 20 years I've worked for the NHS, social services and the voluntary sector, as well as, setting up in private practice. Please see my website for further information.

Information about health conditions (*)

Hypnotherapy can enhance the well-being of individuals diagnosed with serious medical conditions, but should not take the place of medical treatment and advice. If you have been diagnosed with - or suspect you may have - any of these conditions, please speak to your doctor before starting hypnotherapy.

Other areas of hypnotherapy I deal with

As someone who manages my own Long Covid symptoms I have a particular interest in supporting others with this condition as well as CFS (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome).

Sports coaching including adventure sports such as: climbing, snowboarding and mountain biking (Inc fear of falling, performance anxiety, injury recovery).
