Ann Hamilton - Artemis Hypnotherapy - MA, BSc.Hons, DAHP, GHR Supervisor
Hello, my name is Ann and I am an experienced and dedicated Hypnotherapist based in Whitstable, Kent.
Update: During the COVID 19 crisis I am working with online sessions to support clients using Google Duo or Skype sessions. Phone sessions are also available. Many people have been social isolating, social distancing and separated from family, loved ones and friends. Anxiety and stress levels have understandably risen. I can offer clients transformational therapy to help them to manage their emotional distress and to develop effective coping strategies. Once the current situation improves ( hopefully sooner rather than later!) and it is safe to do so, I will resume one-one sessions in my therapy room.
I use Analytical Hypnotherapy & Psychotherapy to explore the root cause of emotional distress, anxiety or trauma. My clients feel that sessions with me help them to be free at last, from issues that have previously held them back. My approach to clients is to offer calm, relaxing and transformational therapy solutions.
My previous career as a Criminologist has given me a unique understanding and insight into psychology and how the brain works. Current thinking in Neuroscience maintains that the brain is 'plastic' and thus we can change our behaviour if we really want to. Are you ready for change in your symptoms and emotional distress?
Specialist areas include...
- Anxiety & stress management
- Hypnotic art therapy
- Past life regression
- Therapy supervision
- Weight loss management
- Emotional freedom therapy.
Hypnotic techniques are used to uncover the underlying root cause of your distress. I am also trained in psychotherapy and a range of mind/body holistic therapies:
- Emotional freedom therapy
- Crystal healing therapy
- Reiki healing.
Therapy solutions are tailor-made to help you release, rebalance and resolve your issues or symptoms.
Hypnosis is a pleasant state of relaxation that allows the therapist and client to access the subconscious and hidden parts of the personality. The client is always in control and can stop the session when they want. Relaxation and visualisation techniques are used to uncover the originating cause of the distress.

Brainstrust Hypnotherapist. A diagnosis of brain cancer is devastating and extremely stressful for the sufferer and their loved ones. Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy can help to alleviate some of the distress experienced.
If you are looking for a Hypnobirthing Practitioner - contact me for full details. Hypnobirthing is a natural childbirth programme which uses hypnosis, visualisation, relaxation and breathing techniques to create natural anaesthesia. This reduces fear, anxiety and pain from the birthing experience. Hypnobirthing allows you discover and experience the joy of birth and to learn how to release the fears and anxieties you may currently have about giving birth. Hypnotic techniques aim to teach you ways to stay in control and calm during labour and birth. Using hypnosis in labour can result in a shorter first stage labour and less intense pain.
Before training as an Analytical Hypnotherapist & Psychotherapist, I worked as a Criminologist for over 30 years, as a consultant in Category A, HM prisons, with long term offenders. I lectured in Criminology and I have also worked with young offenders, their families and victims of crime as a mediator in Restorative Justice Programmes. I have extensive experience of Victim Support work within the Criminal Justice System.
This has all given me a scientific background, knowledge and experience which offers me a unique insight into a wide range of distressing psychological conditions and symptoms that clients may be experiencing.
The General Hypnotherapy Register
Hypnotherapists may become members of the General Hypnotherapy Register if they satisfy certain criteria with regard to both training and ongoing requirements as determined from time to time by the General Hypnotherapy Standards Council (GHSC).
Members are either registered at Practitioner status (which confirms that the GHR acknowledges their qualification to practice), or Affiliate status. Although Affiliate level registrants will have completed a sufficient number of training hours to equip them to commence seeing clients on a limited basis, the GHR does not acknowledge them to have yet been trained to full practitioner level.
All GHR Registered Practitioners are required to accept the published Code of Ethics and Complaints & Disciplinary Procedure.
Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council
The CNHC encompasses many types of alternative therapy, including hypnotherapy.
In order to be admitted to the register a practitioner must have studied to the National Occupational Standards for that profession/discipline, or have reached the equivalent of the National Occupational Standards through other relevant training or at least three years of experience and been assessed by their peers.
A practitioner must also have professional insurance and agree to abide by the CNHC Code of Conduct, Performance and Ethics.
Accredited register membership
Accredited Register Scheme
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing) therapy is a form of psychotherapy that is designed to reduce trauma related stress, anxiety and depression. These are symptoms associated with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). EMDR works extremely well with Hypnotherapy so I am pleased to be able to offer this special combination to my clients.
Evidence based research demonstrates the benefits of EMDR in treating psychological trauma arising from experiences as diverse as war related experiences, childhood abuse or neglect, natural disaster, assault, road traffic accidents, workplace accidents.

GHR acknowledged supervisor - Hypnotherapy
If you are seeking a GHR acknowledged Supervisor as a trainee, or for your own established therapy practice. I can offer you an informal and relaxed way of working through confidential discussion and reflection.
Supervision can be done over the phone, using Skype or face-to-face. It can also be in a group setting of up to four supervisees, or on a one-to-one basis. You choose the format that you prefer. Supervision is a structured process of regular professional support that aims to promote your continuous personal and professional development.
Newly qualified GHR Registrants are expected to engage in this beneficial process for a minimum of 2 hours in any 3 month period during their first 2 years of practice. Thereafter, although ongoing supervision is encouraged, it becomes a voluntary process.
Therapy fees are £90.00 for an Initial first consultation of 1 hour 30 mins and £70.00 for subsequent one-hour sessions. I have a 48 hour cancellation policy or a full fee is charged. Payment is by BACS (in advance of the session) or cash.
The initial session is 1 hour 30 minutes. A detailed case history is taken. This session is primarily concerned with establishing the precise details of the client's condition as well as the important task of defining the exact outcome the client would like to achieve.
wishes to gain from therapy.
I aim to relax my client and establish rapport which is essential for a successful outcome during sessions. At this stage some simple hypnotic relaxation techniques are taught in order to help the client clearly visualise that desired outcome. The session is usually concluded with a brief, deeper trance experience by way of an introduction for those who haven't experienced hypnosis before.
“Ann is a highly skilled therapist. I was so impressed by her flexibility and her great range of skills and knowledge. What also impressed me was that she spent time in researching the best approaches for me between the sessions. I found that this type of therapy gets to the root cause of issues in a completely different way, and much faster than I expected. I know that this therapy has transformed my health and well-being. Issues that have dragged me down for years are now lifted from me and I feel a new freedom as a result." - Maria, Canterbury

"Therapy with Ann is a safe and nurturing space in which you can discover all the buried fears, or problems for what they really are, and learn to move past them. Ann's vast knowledge and qualifications are both fascinating and extremely helpful to those on a journey. My regular visits to the seaside of Whitstable to visit Ann have brought such joy to my life! Time spent with Ann has been priceless and in turn made such a difference in me that many have noticed and I myself can feel on a daily basis." - Rebecca, London
"The sessions with Ann were deeply relaxing and I felt comfortable and safe in her company. Ann has helped me to examine the underlying root cause of my emotional distress. She was very professional at all times, but also kind and caring. I was able to ’revisit’ traumatic events from my past to release them in a confidential environment. I felt much better and happier as a result." - Donna, Whitstable
