Introduction

This is a professional level course for current or intending hypnotherapist practitioners, practising commercially, or for people with a strong interest in self-development practising privately with family or friends, or voluntary work.

Home study - duration throughout

This consists of some reading of the recommended texts (see prospectus) and other materials supplied on CD or MP3 download. Exercises to help understanding are given. This study is meant to be at a suitable level to give some understanding of the concepts needed on the practical sections of the course, and to give more depth to case studies and a final exam.

Practical course week one - Perth Monday - Saturday

This week covers the basic practice of hypnotherapy, how to do suggestion therapy, direct and indirect suggestion, basics of NLP, Ericksonian hypnotherapy and the conduct of a session and contact with clients. Even on the first day, you will be able to do a simple session, gaining confidence.

Practical course week two - Perth (Sun off) then Monday - Saturday

On the second week, students learn more advanced techniques of analytical hypnotherapy and application to specific problems from smoking and gastric band weight-loss to anxiety, phobias and pain control. Also fast induction to assist smoking cessation, etc. Marketing, the role of websites and hypnotherapy CD or MP3 production are also covered this week. Review of course to date, briefing re case studies, exam and essay.

Case studies - home based (with supervision by phone/email)

Eight case studies reflecting the type of skills acquired and demonstrating competence in hypnotherapy practice.

Exam and essay - home based

Open exam to be completed at home consisting of multiple choice, then more specific questions, followed by questions which involve more clinical judgement. The essay is about personal motivation and what has been learned from the course and case studies. There is a certain amount of overlap between case studies and exam/essay as these activities can go in parallel. But the exam/essay starts later to allow experience from case studies to be built in.

Marking

Allow for two weeks to obtain results (depending on numbers). Marking is now done on a dual basis by myself and one other experienced practitioner as a new requirement.

Total elapsed time from practical course start through to results is estimated at 16 weeks. The main full-time commitment is during the two-week practical course. Otherwise, home-based and part-time, acknowledging work and family commitments.
