IVF - How can hypnotherapy help?
When you’re faced with the difficulties of conceiving naturally, for whatever reason, it can be a very difficult time. Anyone who has made the decision to go through In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) has already been through a period of stress, the unknown and a growing desire to have a baby. By the time they’ve made the decision to go ahead with the process, their stress levels have usually been well and truly tested.
Whatever form of IVF they’ve decided to undertake, whether it’s through the NHS or privately, by using the couple’s own eggs and sperm or a donation of either (or both), the process can be an all-consuming one.
There are a number of drugs involved – sometimes experiencing side-effects - and once they start on the process, it can be a bit of a roller-coaster ride. When things start to move, it can be quite quick with no time to take a breath or gather their thoughts before the next part of the process is happening.
There is also a less glamorous side with scans, examinations and procedures to go through and these also add to the stress. At the end of the process comes a two week wait; that anxious time when women and couples must wait to see if the process has worked and they do indeed have a baby on the way.
Although the aim of undertaking IVF is a positive one, this whole process can be very stressful and it’s important to try to remain calm and relaxed through a time which can sometimes feel beyond your control.
Having hypnotherapy alongside IVF treatment can help to reduce your stress, concentrate your mind on positive thinking and use the power of your subconscious mind to support the physical aspects of IVF through positive visualization of the process as it occurs. Ensuring your mind is working together with your body helps you remain more calm and relaxed through the process. It helps to send the positive messages to your body of what you want it to do and how you want to feel about it so that your mind and body really are working for you in the best way they can.
