Are you a chocoholic?
Hazelnuts, cherries, blueberries, coconut, coffee beans and most other berries or fruit become so much better after being integrated into a chocolate bar or dipped in chocolate fountain. For people who love this treat a little too much, it can become a sweet escape. Some may find themselves stashing their chocolate in the fridge to later on enjoy the cold crunchy sweetness whereas some may have it with a cup of tea or coffee – with every sip taken of the hot beverage, the chocolate would melt, your taste buds would rejoice, your brain sends signals, you become fulfilled and happy. Serotonin is released when we have consumed sweet or high-fat foods, it is also the exact reason why we feel happier right after such snacks.
Of course, the question arises, when does the craving for chocolate become an issue?
Depression, anxiety, lack of time to plan a nutritious daily meal plan or just boredom are just a few things that can lead us to buy high-fat and high-sugar treats. As previously mentioned, it boosts the mood, makes us more productive and motivated. Then we have a sugar-crash. Low mood. Thus we consume more chocolate. And the cycle repeats.
Not everyone will get addicted, but due to our ever increasing stressful lifestyle, we see more and more of such cases. The negative side-effects are rather troubling; processed, cheap milk chocolates lack any valuable nutrients.
- Over consumption may lead to headaches.
- Binge-eating/having stashes can lead to lying about the problem and feelings of shame.
- Skin problems.
- And of course, weight issues.
As you can see, the main reasons for addiction is psychological. It can be dealt with by reprogramming your view and approach to whatever conscious or unconscious challenges you're facing.
Hypnotherapy is a great way to approach and finally deal with sugary substances. We will access your subconscious to help you motivate yourself to find healthier options (e.g. veggies, fruits, nuts, seeds), deal with your perception of cravings, reinforce the suggestions – and most importantly direct your energy on other activities/hobbies.
Don't be afraid. You'll have a fresh approach to what you consume and a deeper understanding into your emotions. You will still be able to enjoy chocolate - without craving more.
