About me

Hello, my name is Julie and I specialise in anxiety, depression, trauma and addiction.

I became a hypnotherapist in order to help people change their lives for the better; to help others live more fulfilling lives, free from self-limiting beliefs about what they can or can’t do or achieve, who they are or who they aren’t and the negative behaviours that trap the person into feeling other than how they truly wish to feel. I have a core belief that we should seek to help enrich the lives of others, not leave them impoverished. Here's what just a few of my clients have said on the topics of anxiety, addictions, phobias, alcohol abuse, panic attacks and weight loss amongst others:

"Richard and I had our Covid booster vaccinations [...] today. I’ve no idea how this (hypnotherapy) works [...] but I didn’t have any panicky feelings and even managed to eat breakfast! It was completely painless! Thank you so much for all you’ve done to put 70 years of this problem to rest. "

“Having struggled to control my drinking for many years and pretty much exhausted all other avenues I decided to try hypnotherapy, something I had considered in the past but not progressed due to a lack of understanding regarding how this would work. From the moment I met Julie I knew I had made the right decision, Julie has a professional, calming approach and at great ability to explain the process to be undertaken. We agreed my objectives and commenced a course of therapy. The results from the very start were amazing culminating in me taking control of my drinking and completely stopping my white wine binge drinking. I cannot recommend Julie enough, I feel I have my life back, more energy, far more control and simply a better quality of life. Thank you Julie."

“Thank you so much for all your hard work getting me back on the straight and narrow! […] I cannot thank you enough for everything you have done. I will if it’s ok leave a review on your website because more than anything I want people to know how amazing the treatment really is and how much it has helped me personally. […] I am glad you were a part of my life however small it was a privilege to have met you. Take Care."

"Evening Julie, I hope you've had a good weekend. Today we visited Old Harry Rock and it was exhilarating! I simply cannot thank you enough.  I strode with confidence and new found energy.  I was grinning from ear to ear throughout,  so very pleased that I was no longer fighting the demons inside.  Honestly Julie it was one of the best experiences of my life.  I am so very grateful to you.  Last time I clung to my husband and cried fearful tears,  this time I cried with happiness. It was though a huge weight had been lifted and that I can start enjoying life again. There was only one tiny moment the fear tried to grab hold,  but I stopped, breathed and it passed as quickly as it came. You are amazing!"

“Dear Julie, We hope that this email finds you and the family well. [My daughter] wanted me to send you an update on how things have been since returning to school in September.

[She] has been listening to her last recording from you Monday to Friday every morning when she wakes up and has achieved  95% attendance as we have had a couple of days with some wobbles and has also all of her lessons apart from PE,  which is a massive achievement for her compared to last school year. She is so proud of herself as are we.

We have encouraged [her] to keep a diary in which she has chosen to spilt the diary in half so that she can put down what if any have been negatives for the day or what have been positives.  She is able to see very clearly each day that the positives are increasing and the negatives are very very low.

[My husband] and I feel she is now in such a better place and is happy and socialising more at home by spending time downstairs with us rather than sat in her room. Her school report has just come home and she is reaching the expected level of learning in all subjects except French where she is exceeding!

We are all so thankful for the help and support you have given us as not sure where we would have been had we not been to see you.  Thank you once again. All our Love”

"Hi Julie, I want to say such a huge thank you to you! Our last session of the ‘doormat’ and injured animal and telling my younger self it would be ok helped more than you’ll ever realise! Thank you always and have a fantastic Monday x x”

"First time in three years I've driven on the Motorway (in the rain no less) and I ENJOYED it! Now that’s a result worth cheering about; I feel excited, enriched and confident - thank you!"

"Just wanted to thank you whole heartedly for everything you've done. The tools you have given me to manage my anxiety are priceless and I am so very grateful."

"The very thought of a snake, or even the word itself used to fill me with fear and dread but no more! I was amazed at the results and can honestly say it has made such a positive impact on my life! I'm only sorry it took me 50 years to do anything about it!"

"I am certain that had it not been for the sessions with you and your very useful and helpful recordings I’d still be having a rough time just getting through days. I found it almost impossible to crawl out of the darkness despite the very understanding and loving help of my husband. In the past I was very sceptical about any form of treatment or healing which I could not explain or find logical I turned to you in desperation and was myself greatly surprised that even after the first session there was light 'coming through my windows'. After that, things only got better. My approach has changed dramatically and I’m really enjoying life and for that I’m grateful to you. By the way, your recordings are a saviour!!!

My clients see me for a range of different and sometimes deeply personal issues, and receive an entirely non-judgemental response. In a sense (and with no disrespect), I don't care what has caused an issue in my clients' lives, or what has happened to them in the past. Whatever it was, it didn't kill them! I have no interest in drawing a particular conclusion about their predicament; my interest lies in their future, in helping them cut the ties that bind them (consciously or subconsciously) to past events.

I am here to affirm life not criticize it. In helping my clients achieve freedom from the thoughts and behaviours that they feel have been holding them back. We all deserve to live the best lives we possibly can and my happiness comes from their success.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a fully qualified Senior Hypnotherapist & Master NLP practitioner. My hypnotherapy training spanned a year and involved over 450 hours of theory and practice. My NLP Master Practitioner training was delivered by the great Dr Richard Bandler himself, co-founder of neuro-linguistic programming.

I follow the Eriksonian approach to hypnosis and write and use my own scripts. I also use IMR (ideo-motor response) and other uncovering techniques to pinpoint and deal with root causes where necessary. That said, my approach is definitely forward-focused. If you want to chat expansively about the past, I'm probably not the right therapist for you. Indeed you may find meeting a friend for coffee a cheaper alternative!

I take my continuing professional development and learning seriously and invest a huge amount of time and energy each month to furthering both my practical skills and theoretical knowledge, including being part of a regular peer support groups.

I have also undertaken specialist training in How to Lift Depression Fast and Smoking Cessation. I am also a Parts Therapy practitioner, taught by the world-renowned Roy Hunter and am a member of the ANLP (association for Neuro-Linguistic Programming) as a qualified Master NLP Practitioner having trained with Dr Richard Bandler. Please see my website for more information on these.

Whilst I can help clients in a number of fields, I have a particular interest in helping clients who are suffering with depression, panic attacks and anxiety disorders, off medication and onto self-healing through the mind. I work with clients of all ages from primary school age to people in their eighties, but much of my time is taken working with teenagers and young people between the ages of around 14-24.

Areas of hypnotherapy I deal with

Information about health conditions (*)

Hypnotherapy can enhance the well-being of individuals diagnosed with serious medical conditions, but should not take the place of medical treatment and advice. If you have been diagnosed with - or suspect you may have - any of these conditions, please speak to your doctor before starting hypnotherapy.

Other areas of hypnotherapy I deal with

Aside from the above mentioned, more conventional hypnotherapeutic training and interventions, I also make use of Human Givens, which is a psychotherapeutic approach that asserts that every human being shares a common biological inheritance of physical and emotional needs, evolved over millennia and programmed into our genetic make-up. When our physical or emotional needs are not being met, or when our resources are being used incorrectly, we suffer distress.

Understanding this biological inheritance of physical and emotional needs has led to improvements in mental health care, from general mental and emotional well-being to the treatment of more severe anxiety disorders, addictions and depression.

Additional information

All bookings require a telephone or face-to-face pre-consultation, which is offered free of charge. This ensures that there is a clear understanding of the behaviour the client is seeking to change and that the most appropriate course of treatment is chosen to achieve this.

Payment must be made in full at the time of booking and can be made by bank transfer. If you wish to pay by cheque or in cash, please contact me directly.

Hypnotherapy is a relatively quick therapy. Rarely is it necessary to see people for more than 8 sessions and in some cases, just a couple will suffice depending on the nature of the issue(s) to be resolved. Following are the key programmes offered:

Quit Smoking & Vaping

The Smoking Cessation programme is offered as a two session programme, with a free follow-up if required within the first twelve months. The Smoking Cessation programme also comes with personalised audio recordings.

A free pre-appointment consultation (face-to-face) is required prior to booking. For more information please get in touch.

Bronze, Silver, Gold & Platinum packages

For treatments for all other areas, a number of different packages are offered according to the nature and severity of the issue. These are broadly based around the length of time it may take to resolve the problem. The Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum packages come with personalised audio recordings.

Sharp Minds offers a free pre-appointment consultation to discuss the nature of the problem and the desired results, so that the most appropriate programme can be determined in advance of the treatment commencing. For more information please get in touch.

Lateness

Should you arrive late then your therapy session will be reduced accordingly unless it is possible and agreeable to extend your session. An extension will not be offered where this would adversely impact on another client's session.

Cancellations

I endeavour to give my Clients' the best service I possibly can and part of this is offering the earliest appointment slot possible. It is inevitable that from time to time a client may need to reschedule an appointment. I would ask, however, that where this is the case, you give as much notice as possible so that others are not unduly affected by your cancellation. Sharp Minds Hypnotherapy reserves the right to charge the full session fee for cancellations made with less than 24 hours' notice. Your booking an appointment confirms your acceptance of this.

Further information

On a final note, hypnotherapy is not magic, so if you're after "abracadabra", then you're in the wrong place! For hypnotherapy to work, the client needs to want it to work. Not in the "nice to have if I've got time" kind of way (although this kind of client may also benefit from positive results), but in the "I'm just not prepared to feel like this any more!" kind of way. In other words, the client needs to be committed to it working if it's not to be a potential waste of their money or the therapist's time!

The mind is an amazing thing. It has the power to bring about spontaneous remission in patients whose prognoses are otherwise utterly without hope (see my website for more info). And it has the power to let the body "die of a broken heart"; how many times have you heard about an elderly person dying within days or weeks of his or her life-time partner and childhood sweetheart? These are both extreme workings of the mind, of course, and most things people present with lie somewhere between these mind-blowing extremes. They revolve around years of failed diets, smokers who have become experts in "giving up", doing it at least three times a year, people who have lost their confidence behind the wheel because someone drove into the back of them once, several years ago, or some kid at school said or did something nasty and now your child doesn't want to go to school.

What the mind can conceive, the body can achieve. But by the same token, hypnotherapy cannot force you to do, or be, or say anything you don't want to. Even the clucking chickens on stage know that they are walking about clucking like chickens, much to the amusement of those in the audience. If they so chose, they could just stop.

Everyone is hypnotizable; we pass through hypnosis naturally every day several times including as we go to sleep and waken up again. But getting hypnosis to work in a way that brings about lasting, positive results, requires co-operation and commitment from the client, and a trusting relationship with the therapist. So if you've identified a problem that has been holding you back, and believe that if your mind truly wants to address that problem then it can, then why not pick up the phone (07807 054 706) for a free, no-obligation consultation, and see whether I am the right therapist for you.
