How I can help
I practise Solution Focused Hypnotherapy, a powerful combination of psychotherapy and hypnosis. This brain-based therapy draws on the latest findings in Neuroscience, combining clinically proven techniques with trance to help you leave behind unwanted patterns of behaviour and make significant positive changes.
I help clients with:
- Anxiety and Panic Attacks
- Fear and Phobias
- Confidence and Self-Esteem
- Pain Management
- Quit Smoking
What is hypnosis?
Hypnosis is totally natural. It is an extremely pleasant state of relaxation, similar to day dreaming. You remain awake and totally in control at all times. In this state of trance your subconscious mind is more receptive to beneficial suggestions, accepting directions to promote positive change. Brain waves change during this process, allowing you to see solutions to problems more easily. By creating a relaxed state you will be able to change the way you think in order to feel better, more confident and more in control.
What to expect
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is a collaborative process; I work in partnership with you to help you achieve positive change. Therapy sessions comprise talking therapy, where we discuss the changes you wish to make and the steps you can take towards them, and hypnosis, which helps to consolidate your ideas by encouraging the brain to form new neural pathways.
I offer an initial consultation of one hour to give you the opportunity to find out more about hypnotherapy and how it can help you. I’ll explain how the mind works and how hypnotherapy can help you get to where you want to be. We’ll agree what we aim to achieve from the therapy and how many sessions it is likely to take. I’ll also give you a free self-hypnosis CD to listen to.
Number of sessions
Using Solution Focused Hypnotherapy, changes in habits, behaviour patterns and beliefs can be achieved effectively and relatively quickly. The number of sessions required varies and will depend on your needs and preferences. My goal is to work with you for the shortest time necessary for you to achieve the changes you want to make. As a general guide, the number of sessions may range from 3 – 4 for a phobia to 8 -12 for clinical depression.
What people say
"Having hypnotherapy with Carolyn has changed my inner self. I didn't realise what anxiety I was holding on to for all those years. Hypnotherapy has helped me to be the person I want to be inside and out." (JH, Cardiff)

Training, qualifications & experience
In addition to my private practice I also work with the Hospital Hypnotherapy Service at Cardiff's University Hospital of Wales, helping patients (who are receiving treatment for cancer) with anxiety related issues.
I trained at the Clifton Practice in Bristol, a recognised centre of hypnotherapy excellence. I have been awarded the Diploma in Clinical Hypnotherapy & Psychotherapy (DHP) and the Hypnotherapy Practitioner's Diploma (HPD), qualifications which are recognised by professional bodies and considered to be the gold standard in hypnotherapy training. Since completing my training I regularly attend continual professional development courses to expand my knowledge and keep up to date with the latest research on how the brain works.
I am registered with the CNHC, the UK regulator for complementary healthcare practitioners and am subject to their strict code of ethics. I am also a member of the Association for Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (AfSFH).
I am fully insured and have enhanced DBS clearance.
