About me

How I can help

I practise Solution Focused Hypnotherapy, a powerful combination of forward looking talking therapy and hypnosis. I work in partnership with you to help you make significant positive changes in your life. The solution focused approach helps you to focus on what you want, rather than what you don't want, the positives in your life rather than the problems, the future rather than the past.

I help clients with:

  • Anxiety and Panic Attacks
  • Confidence
  • Phobias
  • Fear of Flying
  • Quit Smoking
  • Insomnia
  • Depression

"Research shows that there is more scientific evidence for hypnotherapy than any other complementary therapy… by using hypnosis people can perform prodigious feats of will-power and self-healing." The Health Education Authority

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy combines clinically proven techniques and a scientific understanding of how the brain works with the state of trance. Through hypnosis negative habitual beliefs and behaviours can be changed in to more positive thoughts and actions at a subconscious level, meaning that hypnosis literally helps the parts that other approaches can't reach. Being hypnostised is a surprisingly normal experience. We all go in and out of trance states several times a day, like those moments when you drift off whilst watching television or reading a book. Hypnosis is an extremely pleasant state of relaxation, similar to day dreaming. You are in total control at all times and no one can make you do anything that you do not want to do.

I offer an initial consultation of one hour to give you the opportunity to find out more about hypnotherapy and how it can help you. I’ll explain how the mind works and how hypnotherapy can help you get to where you want to be. We’ll agree what we aim to achieve from the therapy and how many sessions it is likely to take. I’ll also give you a free self-hypnosis CD to listen to.

What people say

"Hypnotherapy has helped me to feel calmer and more confident about myself. I have lost weight and I feel more motivated, more driven. Hypnotherapy has changed my life as I now see things differently."
(TH, Cowbridge)

"Having hypnotherapy with Carolyn has changed my inner self. I didn't realise what anxiety I was holding on to for all those years. Hypnotherapy has helped me to be the person I want to be inside and out." (JH, Cardiff)

What to expect

Therapy sessions comprise talking therapy, where we discuss the changes you wish to make and the steps you can take towards them, and hypnosis (trance), which helps to consolidate your ideas by encouraging the brain to form new neural pathways.

Number of sessions

Using Solution Focused Hypnotherapy, changes in habits, behaviour patterns and beliefs can be achieved quickly and effectively. The number of sessions required varies and will depend on your needs and preferences. My goal is to work with you for the shortest time necessary for you to achieve the changes you want to make. As a general guide, the number of sessions may range from 3 – 4 for a phobia to 8 -12 for clinical depression.

Training, qualifications & experience

I trained at the Clifton Practice in Bristol, a recognised centre of hypnotherapy excellence. I have been awarded the Diploma in Clinical Hypnotherapy & Psychotherapy (DHP) and the Hypnotherapy Practitioner's Diploma (HPD), qualifications which are recognised by professional bodies and considered to be the gold standard in hypnotherapy training. I am registered with the CNHC, the UK regulator for complementary healthcare practitioners. I am also a member of the Association for Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (AfSFH) and am subject to their strict code of ethics.

In addition to my private practice, I also work with the Hospital Hypnotherapy Service at The University Hospital of Wales Cardiff, helping chemotherapy patients who experience anticipatory nausea and vomiting, and anxiety relating to their treatment.

I thoroughly enjoy my work; seeing people take back control of their life and achieve their objectives in a relatively short time period is a wonderful thing to see.
