About me

For over a decade, I've helped people in Harrogate and the surrounding area overcome challenges and achieve positive change. With professional training, experience, and dedication, I provide uplifting sessions to address a variety of issues, such as:

Anxiety and low mood
Confidence struggles
Relationship or life transition difficulties

Unwanted habits

Solution-Focused Approach: Building Your Brighter Future

Together, we'll use Solution Focused Hypnotherapy. This approach focuses on your desired future, not dwelling on the past or searching for 'root causes'. This type of therapy is not about the 'why?'; it's about the 'what now?'.

Through collaborative discussions, we'll identify your goals and harness your unconscious mind to create a roadmap for achieving them. You define the future and set the pace, so change feels manageable and sustainable.

Safe and Empowering Hypnosis

Hypnotherapy is a safe process where you remain in control. It helps your subconscious mind accept your desired outcomes, solidifying positive changes.

Creating a Supportive Environment

My sessions are friendly, professional, and comfortable. I believe the client-therapist relationship is key to successful change.

Testimonials

"I would recommend Sarah at Flourish Hypnotherapy as she is warm and friendly and apart from the fantastic visualisations during relaxation Sarah is able to help you see and make a positive approach to any  situation.  With regular use of the CD and taking the time to relax each day it has helped to calm my anxiety and given me the ability and tools to deal with any anxious situation that can arise at any time." LC, Thirsk

“I have found Sarah’s down-to-earth, humorous and friendly approach the opposite of many therapies on offer, and much more effective in terms of reducing stress and sorting out my (manic) lifestyle priorities!” Vee Walker, Author

Training, qualifications & experience

My background is linguistics and psychology. I trained in medical and clinical hypnosis and hold the Hypnotherapy Practitioner Diploma, which proves that you have studied, answered questions about the ethics and practice of hypnotherapy and have worked the requisite number of hours face-to-face time with clients. I am a member of the National Council for Hypnotherapy, whose members are all trained, qualified and insured.

I have enhanced DBS clearance, which means that I can work with children, young people and vulnerable adults.

I cover a wide range of challenges but am particularly interested in anxiety, panic, low mood and self-esteem problems. These tend to respond well to hypnotherapy because people are keen to resolve the problem and engage well.

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy believes that everyone has the resources to resolve their problems and with guidance, the individual can find these resources and work out how to use them. This method, developed by Steve de Shazer and Insoo Berg, has received strong empirically proven results and helps clients break out from the repetition of 'same old same old' thinking.

Flourish Hypnotherapy is open to people of all ages, sexes, backgrounds, identities and sexual orientations.

All sessions can be booked by email or phone and are confirmed by making a small deposit. Initial sessions start with a confidential chat during which I make a note of contact details, lifestyle, health, family situation and interests. I then explain something of how the brain functions and how hypnotherapy works.

Hypnotherapy may start on that session or on session two, and is supported by a free recording that clients can use between sessions.

We work together to discuss your possible future and what might make that happen. Hypnotherapy serves to quiet the conscious mind and enable to unconscious to begin to take on board the positive suggestions discussed.

The number and frequency of sessions is set by you with guidance from me. I am always available for 'top up' or 'one-off' sessions.

I work with the belief that all clients are seeking someone who will listen non-judgmentally, show empathy and understand that their reality, whatever it may be, is real. In this way, I strive to lead clients out of the dark by offering new ways of thinking, believing and behaving.

Member organisations

NCH
National Council for Hypnotherapy (NCH)

The National Council for Hypnotherapy holds one of the largest registers of independent Hypnotherapists in the United Kingdom and strives to maintain the highest standards among its members.

There is an agreed Code of Conduct, an established Complaints & Disciplinary Procedure and all members are obliged to maintain comprehensive Public Liability & Professional Indemnity Insurance, maintain regular CPD (continuing professional development) hours, and attend Supervision when needed.

GHR
The General Hypnotherapy Register (GHR)

Hypnotherapists may become members of the General Hypnotherapy Register if they satisfy certain criteria with regard to both training and ongoing requirements as determined from time to time by the General Hypnotherapy Standards Council (GHSC).

Members are either registered at Practitioner status (which confirms that the GHR acknowledges their qualification to practice), or Affiliate status. Although Affiliate level registrants will have completed a sufficient number of training hours to equip them to commence seeing clients on a limited basis, the GHR does not acknowledge them to have yet been trained to full practitioner level.

All GHR Registered Practitioners are required to accept the published Code of Ethics and Complaints & Disciplinary Procedure.
