About me

Do you have IBS, a persistent lump in your throat, or physical symptoms your doctor can't explain?

You've done the tests and seen the consultants; but everything came back "normal". And yet your gut still rules your days, the ulcer, or that tight lump is there every time you swallow. You were told it's stress, and then sent home with no plan.

These symptoms aren't imagined; they're a body asking for help in the only language it has. And once the pattern underneath them is addressed, they respond; often sooner than people expect.

That's the way I can support you.

My approach

I'm Laura Abbatangelo, a cognitive hypnotherapist specialising in the physical symptoms of stress such as: IBS, globus sensation (the lump in the throat feeling), ulcer, myokymia (eye twich), anxiety and panic. Cognitive Hypnotherapy (QCH) is a flexible, client-led approach blending modern hypnosis, CBT, NLP and positive psychology; shaped around your symptoms, your triggers and your values.

For years I have been supporting people recover from chronic stress, anxiety, burnout and the symptoms they leave in the body. I also facilitate courses for executives and senior leaders across several organisations. I know what chronic stress does to a body because I've managed inside it.

IBS & gut health

Gut-directed hypnotherapy is recognised in NICE guidelines for IBS. Most people come to me after the doctors, the tests and the low-FODMAP diet, with little lasting relief; yet most notice improvements from the very first sessions. If you'd like to understand why gut symptoms persist even after everything checks out, I explain the gut-brain connection here: https://www.lauraabba.com/why-ibs-symptoms-persist-and-2-solutions-to-try-the-gut-brain-connection-explained/

Globus Sensation (the lump in your throat)

If an ENT has examined you and found nothing, after a persistant feeling in your throat, what you're most likely experiencing is globus: throat muscles held tight by a nervous system on alert. In published research, 9 out of 10 patients whose globus hadn't improved with medication got better through hypnotic relaxation. It's one of my core specialisms; one of the very few therapists in the UK. More info: https://www.lauraabba.com/globus-sensation-hypnotherapy/
