A warm welcome to my profile - my name is Harriet & I specialise in helping you overcome your phobias using one of the most powerful interventions to exist today: Hypnotherapy.

I know that struggling with a phobia isn't just about struggling with a phobia.

It impacts everything in your life.

It stops you from embarking on new experiences like going on holiday, visiting attractions and trying new adventures.

It puts a burden on your partner, friends and family for having to accommodate to your needs.

It risks your children seeing how you react and copying you.

I know that struggling with a phobia is causing a major inconvenience in your life. Left unaddressed, it ruins both the day-to-day activities and the special life events.

However here's the good news: there's a solution.

I've worked with a wide range of phobias including animal phobias (From insects to dogs - I've covered it), claustrophobia (lifts/elevators & planes), flying phobia, driving phobias, medical phobias (blood, needles, hospitals in general) and more.

Each client I've worked with in this area has seen a huge transformation in their ability to cope & navigate their fear so they can live life on their terms again.

We achieve this using cognitive behavioural hypnotherapy:

What is cognitive behavioural hypnotherapy?
The cognitive behavioural approach to hypnosis is different to the "state theory" of hypnosis in that it rejects the notion of a "hypnotic trance" and credits the use of ordinary psychological factors such as suggestion, expectation, and imagination. This places emphasis on the approach leading to realistic change that is sustainable to maintain. This is important because it means that the treatment is working because of you and not some perceived "magic".

Research shows (Kirsch et al.) that cognitive behavioural therapies were more effective when integrated with hypnosis, which makes these two approaches a power couple when effectively helping people achieve positive long-term change in short duration of time.

Client first 
The client experience is my top priority. I will ask meaningful questions throughout our work together to ensure we are working in a way that serves you. If something isn’t working, we'll change tact and try something else. It’s all part of the process. I provide a safe and non-judgmental space for you to be open and honest with me to ensure we put you in the best position to achieve your goals.

Feedback approach 
I will openly ask for feedback after every session to ensure the sessions are working for you. Therapeutic interventions are not a one-size-fits-all approach which is why I will always place importance on your feedback.

Transparency
I will always be honest and transparent when it comes to working together. To be ethical, I can only accept clients that have a presenting issue within my scope of competence. Moreover, I do not try and sell you a "miracle cure". Not all interventions and techniques work for everyone - and in fact, we learn the most from the interventions that do not work. I use your feedback to ensure we're working in manner that serves you. I will always provide psycho-education so you understand the rationale behind the approach.

I chose to obtain an evidence based qualification because I value science and empirical research.

Training, qualifications & experience

Since my 4 years of practice, I have worked with 200+ clients, I have upgraded to be a Level 5 practitioner, I am a supervisor and I have guest lectured at prestigious universities on hypnotherapy.

I achieved my degree in Psychology (BSc) in 2017, achieving a first class status. Following from this, I obtained my diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy (Dip, CBH) in 2020, which specifically focused on evidence based practice. 

Furthermore, I have undertaken a Stress Management and Resilience Training diploma as well as training in ACT approaches with Russ Harris.

I am passionate about working with those struggling with phobias because I know just how deliberating these fears can be. I know it's not just about overcoming a phobia, it's about getting your life back, nurturing your relationships, being a good role model for your children, and ultimately enjoying life again.

After our introduction session, if you're ready to start treatment please note I offer sessions in blocks of 4, 8 and 12 as this is the realistic number of sessions required to overcome your phobia.

Depending on the severity of your struggle will depend on how many sessions we need.

Sessions are held either weekly or fortnightly. 

When you book your free introductory call, we can discuss fees and session length to ensure we book in the right approach for you.
