About me
You may have had anxiety for a short or a much longer time and the experiences may be affecting your work, social life, relationships and your emotional well-being.
I know how anxiety brings up feelings of 'being out of control' and perceptions that a catastrophe or an overwhelming event are just 'around the corner'. I know full well how restrictive anxiety can make life, if it is allowed to grow over time. This is why getting support for medium and long term anxiety and phobias are key. The longer it continues, the more it affects and imbalances our nervous systems, thereby making our bodies much more sensitive and reactive to stress.
The clients that I work with regularly tell me that phobias such as a fear of flying, a fear of travelling on public transport, or a fear of needles and injections and a fear of speech giving, hold them back and hold back their professional careers. It also makes them feel that they are somehow inadequate, that they are different and have some kind of impediment, all thoughts and feelings which reduce their self-confidence. I get this, I hear this and their experiences are recognised and validated. Each of us has our unique experiences and the perceptions that develop from them.
We know that anxiety has some benefits, since it makes us more sharper and more able to cope with stress, but you may have experienced the longer term stress impacts of it. Anxiety may have developed through phobias, shame, the perception of an inability to cope or feelings that something may be too overwhelming. Or it could have been a care-giver or parent who themselves had a range of fears or phobias and restricted your activities. Or they may have painted a picture of a world that is foreboding and dangerous?
It is essential to hang onto the belief that there is hope for healing and that healing could start with making contact for help.
I am a qualified Counsellor and Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapist and have been working with hundreds of clients with anxiety conditions and phobias. I previously worked with a range of communities for over 25 years through national community engagement work and so I deeply value people, communities and their mental and emotional well-being.
I bring a variety of Cognitive Behavioural, hypnotherapy, reflective, psychoeducational, breathing, relaxation, assertiveness, exposure and cognitive challenge techniques and tools into my therapeutic work that have made a difference to people in how they can manage their anxiety, their stress levels and their sense of self-control and confidence. Don't take my word for it, here is a comment from one of my clients:
"Fiyaz is unlike any therapist I've worked with previously. His holistic approach incorporates a range of therapeutic styles to suit my changing needs, utilising traditional tools alongside a tailored, flexible and client-centred focus. All this combined with his naturally open and generous energy has been invaluable in guiding me through a period of life-affirming introspection, discovery and development".
I therefore specialise in anxiety conditions and I work with clients on reducing panic attacks, treating phobias such as a fear of flying, public speaking or giving speeches or if people have a fear of travelling on public transport. I also work with people who have a fear of needles or injections, called trypanophobia.

Training, qualifications & experience
I have been practising and working with hundreds of clients with anxiety and phobias and I specialise in working on anxiety conditions. I have also worked through anxiety in my life and know and understand this condition, having had lived experiences of it.
There is nothing like a lived experience of a condition like long term anxiety. I have turned my life around with determination and the skills and tools that I have learned and which form the bedrock of my practice. That desire for a better life is something which drives my therapy work, so that others can get through difficulties with stress, anxiety and phobias that may be holding them back.
I have the following qualifications and I come from a science background. I have:
- A Degree in Neuroscience (BSc - Neuroscience, UCL),
- A Masters in Education (MA.Ed),
- A Diploma and Advanced Diploma in Integrative Humanistic counselling, I am therefore a qualified counsellor.
- I am a member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy,
- I am a qualified Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapist, Level 5 Higher Diploma, NCFE,
- I am a member of the National Council of Integrative Psychotherapists,
- I am registered with the General Hypnotherapy Register.

Client Testimonials:
"I feel like we found a lot of clarity in that session. I also feel a lot more confident about my ability to handle my thoughts and feelings in discovering and tolerating any hypothetically potentially upsetting realities that I would otherwise be burdened by."
Client N. (April 2024)
"Thank you so much for your support over our time together, it's really helped lift me up during a number of hard times and brought a new perspective into my life and thinking which I will always be grateful for."
Client J. (January 2024)
"I had a fear of flying and the work with Fiyaz gave me the courage and the ability to get on my first flight after many years. His style of therapy, his knowledge and his work really allowed me to open up with my fears and phobias".
Client P. (April 2024)
"I have not been able to get my bloods checked for over 3 years and whenever I book something, I just back out. I also had real problems with getting the Covid-19 jabs. It took me many goes to get two of the vaccines, but the anxiety and the build up to the injections literally drove me to the edge. The scale of my anxiety went off the scale and I kept seeing needles as images in my mind and kept re-enforcing my fears. This is why I believe specialists who work on anxiety and specifically on this condition, are so needed. My work with Fiyaz on my fear of needles and injections has made a real difference.”
