About me
** Sessions available in Mid Devon and Online **
Are you looking for some help to reduce anxiety or improve your self-esteem? Do you want to get back to your old self again and enjoy life to the full?
I have over 10 years experience in helping people with anxiety and confidence issues, along with symptoms of depression, pain management and sleep quality. For several years I worked within the NHS at the University Hospital of Wales, helping patients (receiving treatment for cancer) with anxiety related issues.
I work with Solution Focused Hypnotherapy, a relaxing combination of talking therapy and hypnosis. It is a very empowering process that enables you to change the way you think in order to make positive changes in your life. I also offer stop smoking therapy.
Some of the issues I can help include:
- Persistent Anxiety and Panic Attacks
- Phobias (including emetophobia)
- Low Confidence and Self-esteem
- Fear of Flying and Driving Anxiety
- Irritable Bowel Syndrome
- Depression and Lack of Motivation
- Alcohol Control
- Quit Smoking
What to expect
The first part of each hypnotherapy session consists of talking therapy. In this part of the session we discuss your needs and goals and using solution-focused questions help you to imagine your preferred future, a future where you have a more useful perspective on the quality of your life. This positive psychotherapy work is enhanced by the use of hypnosis.
What is hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a deep state of relaxation, similar to day dreaming. You remain awake and totally in control at all times. In this pleasantly relaxed state your subconscious mind is more receptive to beneficial suggestions, accepting directions to promote positive change.
Initial Consultation
The initial consultation is an essential part of the hypnotherapy process. It's an opportunity for you to talk about what's prompted you to seek help and what you hope to achieve from the sessions. I will explain how the brain works in relation to whatever issue is bothering you and how hypnotherapy can help you. Following the consultation I will provide you with a hypnosis track to listen to at home between sessions.
There is no hypnosis session during the initial consultation, but it is a very powerful session giving you information that can be extremely helpful.
Number of sessions
The number of hypnotherapy sessions required varies from person to person and will depend on your needs and preferences. My goal is to work with you for the shortest time necessary for you to achieve the changes you want to make. As a general guide, the number of sessions may range from 4 for a specific phobia to 8 -12 for generalised anxiety or clinical depression.
What people say
Here are some of the things clients have said after a number of sessions:
"I feel so much calmer, able to cope and more confident."
"I feel happier and more positive about the future."
"I am enjoying life again and not battling to get by.”

Training, qualifications & experience
I am a fully qualified Clinical Hypnotherapist and Psychotherapist with over 10 years experience of working with Solution Focused Hypnotherapy.
I trained at CPHT Bristol, a recognised centre of hypnotherapy excellence. I hold the Diploma in Clinical Hypnotherapy & Psychotherapy (DHP) and the Hypnotherapy Practitioner's Diploma (HPD), qualifications which are recognised by professional bodies and considered to be the gold standard in hypnotherapy training.
Since completing my training I have attended many professional development courses to expand my knowledge and keep up to date with the latest research on how the brain works. These have included Medical Hypnotherapy, Neuroscience, Women's Health and Mindfulness to name a few.
I am registered with the CNHC, the UK regulator for complementary healthcare practitioners and am subject to their strict code of ethics. I am also a member of the Association for Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (AfSFH).
I am fully insured and have enhanced DBS clearance.
Member organisations
The CNHC encompasses many types of alternative therapy, including hypnotherapy.
In order to be admitted to the register a practitioner must have studied to the National Occupational Standards for that profession/discipline, or have reached the equivalent of the National Occupational Standards through other relevant training or at least three years of experience and been assessed by their peers.
A practitioner must also have professional insurance and agree to abide by the CNHC Code of Conduct, Performance and Ethics.
The Association for Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (AfSFH) was set up to provide information about a modern form of Hypnotherapy and its associated benefits to members of the public. The main aim of the AfSFH is to spread awareness of the benefits of Solution Focused Hypnotherapy. Its secondary aim is to support Hypnotherapists in their businesses by encouraging good practice and self-care.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
