What to expect
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy focuses on solutions for the future rather than analysing problems of the past. It is a collaborative process in which I work in partnership with you to help you imagine your preferred future, a future where you have a more useful perspective on the quality of your life. This positive psychotherapy work is enhanced by the application of hypnosis.
What is hypnosis?
Hypnosis is totally natural. It is an extremely pleasant state of relaxation, similar to day dreaming. You remain awake and totally in control at all times. In this state of trance your subconscious mind is more receptive to beneficial suggestions, accepting directions to promote positive change. Brain waves change during this process, allowing you to see solutions to problems more easily. By creating a relaxed state you will be able to change the way you think in order to feel better, more confident and more in control.
I offer an initial consultation of one hour to give you the opportunity to find out more about hypnotherapy and how it can help you. I’ll explain how the mind works and how hypnotherapy can help you get to where you want to be. We’ll agree what we aim to achieve from the therapy and how many sessions it is likely to take. I’ll also give you a free hypnosis relaxation CD/download to listen to.
Number of sessions
Using Solution Focused Hypnotherapy changes in habits, behaviour patterns and beliefs can be effectively achieved relatively quickly. The number of sessions required varies from person to person and will depend on your needs and preferences. My goal is to work with you for the shortest time necessary for you to achieve the changes you want to make. As a general guide, the number of sessions may range from 4 for a phobia to 8 -12 for clinical depression.
What people say
"Having hypnotherapy with Carolyn has changed my inner self. I didn't realise what anxiety I was holding on to for all those years. Hypnotherapy has helped me to be the person I want to be inside and out." (Joan, Cardiff)
“Since my hypnosis sessions I have become more confident. I am able to review every challenge in a positive light and recognise when I need to that it is ok to take some time out to relax. I have found an inner strength to deal with the daily challenges and I am not as worried as I used to be.” (Tanya, Penarth)
Training, qualifications & experience
I am a fully qualified and experienced Clinical Hypnotherapist and Psychotherapist. My areas of expertise include helping people with anxiety and confidence issues, depression, pain management and insomnia.
In addition to my private practice I have also worked within the NHS at Cardiff's University Hospital of Wales, helping patients (receiving treatment for cancer) with anxiety related issues.
I trained at the Clifton Practice in Bristol, a recognised centre of hypnotherapy excellence. I have been awarded the Diploma in Clinical Hypnotherapy & Psychotherapy (DHP) and the Hypnotherapy Practitioner's Diploma (HPD), qualifications which are recognised by professional bodies and considered to be the gold standard in hypnotherapy training. Since completing my training I regularly attend professional development courses to expand my knowledge and keep up to date with the latest research on how the brain works.
I am registered with the CNHC, the UK regulator for complementary healthcare practitioners and am subject to their strict code of ethics. I am also a member of the Association for Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (AfSFH).
I am fully insured and have enhanced DBS clearance.

In order to be admitted to the register a practitioner must have studied to the National Occupational Standards for that profession/discipline, or have reached the equivalent of the National Occupational Standards through other relevant training or at least three years of experience and been assessed by their peers.
