Success with Regression: A Practical CPD Masterclass in Clinical Decision-Making During Regression
Many therapists learn how to guide a client into regression. The harder question often comes next: What should you do once the client is there?
Regression may bring forward memories, emotions, bodily responses, beliefs or younger self-states. But accessing this material does not, by itself, create therapeutic change. The therapist still needs to decide what the client needs next, how to respond safely and which therapeutic direction to take.
Join this practical clinical masterclass with Bill Frost, author of The Hypnotherapist’s Guide to Regression, exploring the clinical choices therapists face once regression has begun.
The emphasis is not on following another rigid script. It is on developing therapist judgement, client safety and purposeful therapeutic change.
Why attend this masterclass?
Knowing how to facilitate regression is only part of the therapeutic process. Once significant material emerges, the therapist may need to make important decisions in real time.
Should you deepen the experience or create distance? Should the client associate with the experience or observe it from a safer position? What happens when a memory is incomplete, uncertain or symbolic? When should you continue, and when should you stabilise, pause or stop?
This masterclass explores the practical thinking behind these decisions, helping therapists develop a wider range of clinical ideas and responses that can be adapted to the individual client.
What you will gain
Manage emotional intensity
Explore how to respond when regression brings forward strong emotions, distress or abreaction while maintaining therapeutic safety and control.
Work with association and dissociation
Consider when it may be useful for a client to engage more directly with an experience and when creating therapeutic distance may be more appropriate.
Navigate uncertain memories
Develop a careful approach to memories or experiences that may be incomplete, unclear, uncertain or symbolic without imposing interpretation or certainty.
Choose an appropriate change method
Explore how the client's presentation can inform what therapeutic response or change method may be most appropriate.
Know when to continue and when not to
Recognise clinical cues that may indicate when to continue, pause, create distance, stabilise or stop the regression process.
Support integration
Consider how to help clients make sense of useful therapeutic learning and integrate it following regression work.
Practical, clinically focused learning
This masterclass focuses on practical thinking and therapist behaviour rather than a fixed sequence or universal regression script.
Different clients need different responses
Through clear explanations, clinical examples and selected transcript material, Bill will demonstrate how key approaches may sound and look within therapeutic practice.
The workshop draws on Bill Frost's work for "The Hypnotherapist’s Guide to Regression" and addresses one central clinical question: Once the client is there, what can you do that is safe, useful and therapeutically meaningful?
The aim is to help you leave with a broader range of clinical choices and a clearer understanding of how to decide between them.
Who should register?
This masterclass is designed for qualified and trainee therapists from a range of therapeutic disciplines, including:
- clinical hypnotherapists
- psychotherapists
- counsellors
- therapists
- mental health and wellbeing practitioners
- other appropriately trained therapeutic professionals.
It is particularly relevant for therapists who already use regression, or who expect to use regression within their existing professional scope. Participants should have appropriate training for any regression methods they use in their own clinical practice.
How to register
LSCCH/LCCH Asia students and graduates should look out for an email containing the discount code or contact the office.
