Quit smoking: Will you be taking part in Stoptober?
In the UK, nearly 100,000 people die each year due to smoking-related illnesses. Despite this, almost one in six adults still smoke.
Stoptober starts on 1st October, running for 28 days. Each year, thousands join together to quit smoking. Everyone quits together, supported by employers, charities and fellow smokers wishing to quit. The campaign runs for 28 days because if you make it to 28 days smoke-free, you are five times more likely to stop for good.
According to the NHS, nearly one million people have signed up so far - are you going to be one of them?
Hypnotherapy for smoking
While everyone is different, there are some stop-smoking techniques believed to be effective in making the journey easier. Many people believe hypnotherapy for smoking to be an effective treatment, but how does this work?
Hypnotherapy works to break the negative behaviours and thought patterns you may have with smoking. It is these reactions that often hinders progress and prevents you from successfully giving up for good.
When making the decision to stop smoking, the key aspect is to let go of what you knew. Change your perspective of cigarettes and you will start to forget why you smoke - but this isn’t easy. Many people find changing their thoughts about something extremely tough, but this is where hypnotherapy can help.
Hypnotherapy focuses on change - when considering hypnosis for smoking, you need to be sure you are ready. Make sure you are quitting for you, and nobody else.
You will be put into a relaxed state, where the hypnotherapist will look to change your thought patterns. It is in this deep state that your mind is most open to suggestion - the hypnotherapist will begin making suggestions such as, ‘I don’t want a cigarette’ or ‘the taste of a cigarette makes me feel sick’.
Many people find this technique will help them break the habit, though others may find it more effective to combine hypnotherapy with another treatment, such as medication or nicotine replacements. Quitting smoking is a long journey and will not be easy, but hypnotherapy can help. You may feel confident to continue the journey alone after one session, or you might prefer to have a number of sessions.
The ultimate aim of hypnotherapy for smoking is to empower you to take control of your addiction. It will promote healthy behaviours and help you develop a new perspective.
