Hypnosis to get rid of mass fear.....
Recently it has been difficult to turn on the news without hearing about another terrorist attack. It seems too close to home and innocent civilians are the target. Fear is on a mass scale and for some people it is restricting their movements and activities as they are too afraid to go about their daily lives for fear of another attack. For some countries, terrorist attacks are commonplace and as a nation we have become almost immune to it. However, in recent years and especially in the past few weeks, it has been one attack after another.
How can you feel safe when the terrorists have reached a new low by attacking a packed concert attended mainly by children and young people? How can you feel safe when tourist attractions are singled out as they know people of all nationalities will be relaxing and enjoying the sights? How can you feel safe when some individuals start to retaliate and only make things worse?
It is a well-known fact that during World War 2, Jewish mothers were concerned about their babies crying and took them to their doctors for advice. The doctors could find no physical reason for the crying but soon came to the conclusion that the babies could sense their mother’s fear and this upset them causing them to wail in fear themselves. Therefore it is important that we put these acts of terrorism into some perspective so that we too, do not instil fear into our children unnecessarily.
Of course, we cannot rule out further possible attacks so we need to learn how to deal with this fear. First of all, it is important to limit yourself to how many news stories you watch. Depending on the news source, the way the story is portrayed can often sound worse than what it is. Often there can be an underlying reason as to how much speculation is reported therefore you must be mindful and read between the lines. Secondly, if you are in a place that makes you feel vulnerable then stay alert and observant but remind yourself that these occurrences are still fortunately rare and that our emergency services are on high alert to recognise and deal with these kind of situations.
So how can hypnosis help you feel safe? Whilst we all may be feeling slightly more fearful due to recent events, for some individuals, the fear they are experiencing is impacting on their everyday lives. They can no longer go about their daily business or attend events where there are large group gatherings such as concerts or sports arenas.
Hypnotherapy can help to alleviate any distress experienced by rationalising the situation and addressing the emotions attached to these feelings. The therapist can address the anxiety felt by teaching you methods to de-stress and reminding you of times in the past when you experienced relaxation and serenity. He will guide you to a sense of calmness and of living in the moment instead of fretting about ‘what if’ something happens in the future. He will explain to you that worrying about what might or might not happen does not serve you in the here and now. He may point out that you are not responsible for keeping your country safe and that you must rely on the experts in charge of keeping us safe. Often our brains are so active that it tires out our physical being so look after your body too and seek the guidance of a reputable hypnotherapist to bring your mind back to a healthy state, enabling you to live your life to the full.
