Don't blow your top this Christmas! Hypnotherapy can help

If you have a reputation for getting wound up easily or blowing your top quickly, Christmas could be a high-risk time for you. Whilst we’d like to think of Christmas as a harmonious time, it can be a very stressful time of the year and if you have a short fuse, it can become a time of conflict. Many families clash over the holidays, especially if relatives who spend little time together throughout the year, find themselves cooped up together for days on end. Whether it’s eye-rolling and huffing and puffing or sarcasm, sniping or all-out anger, these destructive emotions take time to recover from.

A room full of couples and individuals with different politics, religious beliefs or ideas on good parenting can result in quarrels, especially if past misunderstandings haven’t been resolved. Family dynamics can be especially tricky over Christmas when there’s a lot of pressure to be friendly, considerate and well-behaved. The strain on the purse strings can cause stress and anxiety too, as people try to meet the expectation of family members.

Many people will run up large bills and credit card debts which take months (or years) to pay off. Days of overeating, drinking and lack of activity can be a breeding ground for discontent and ancient squabbles to rear their head. Alcohol is a disinhibitor which can lead to people doing and saying things in situations when they would normally exercise some control.

If you are prone to getting easily cross, it may be a sign that there are issues that you need to deal with. Therapists often describe anger as a secondary emotion because those who want to protect themselves from other uncomfortable feelings or thoughts will often respond with anger to perceived slights, unwelcome comments or behaviour which leaves them feeling vulnerable. Does this resonate with you? Most people who are quick to anger will have felt something else before they felt the red mist rising, but it may happen so quickly that the only thing they are aware of is rage.

If you are feeling emotionally fragile or are lacking in self-esteem you may experience a sense of being out of control. Hypnotherapy is a great way to not only deal with the underlying issues that may be leading to your aggression or anger but to help you to feel differently about yourself and your relationship with others. During hypnosis, unmet needs from earlier years can be addressed and processed. With the help of your therapist, you will have the opportunity to work through deep emotional pain so you can be free from past hurts. With Christmas looming and many festivities and functions already underway, why not sign up for a course of hypnotherapy so that this and future Christmases will be less tense.
