About me
Does your mind rarely seem to switch off?
Maybe you replay conversations long after they've happened, worry about things that haven't happened yet, or spend far too much time wondering what other people think of you.
You might find yourself saying yes when you really want to say no, putting everyone else before yourself, or constantly feeling like you should be doing more.
Perhaps, from the outside, you seem absolutely fine. But inside, your mind can feel exhausting.
I'm Lily, a Solution-Focused Hypnotherapist and founder of The Peace Lily Practice, and this is an area that's particularly important to me because I understand how consuming these patterns can become.
Before becoming a hypnotherapist, I experienced anxiety, people-pleasing and low confidence myself.
For a long time, I thought these things were simply parts of my personality. I was an overthinker. I worried about what people thought of me. I found it difficult to put myself first.
Getting support helped me realise that the patterns we'd practised for years didn't necessarily have to be the patterns we carried forever.
That experience is a huge part of why I became so interested in the brain, our patterns of thinking and ultimately Solution-Focused Hypnotherapy.
It also influences the kind of therapist I want to be. I don't want you to feel judged, analysed or as though there's something "wrong" with you. I want you to understand yourself better and feel genuinely involved in the changes you're making.
How I work
Solution-Focused Hypnotherapy combines psychotherapy with hypnosis and draws on our understanding of how the brain responds to stress, anxiety and repeated patterns of thinking.
Rather than spending every session going back over everything that's gone wrong, we focus largely on where you are now, where you'd like to be and what could help you move towards that.
We'll also explore relevant aspects of how your brain works. Understanding why we can get stuck in certain patterns can make our thoughts and behaviours feel much less confusing and help us begin responding differently.
I particularly support people experiencing anxiety and overthinking, stress and overwhelm, low confidence and self-esteem, people-pleasing, social anxiety, sleep difficulties, low mood, fears and phobias, unwanted habits, and difficulties around performance or pressure.
What will our sessions actually be like?
Sessions with me are relaxed, conversational and tailored to you.
We'll talk about what's been going well, explore what you'd like to be different and identify small, realistic steps towards the life you'd like to be living.
The final part of our session involves hypnosis.
If you've never experienced hypnosis before, it's completely understandable to wonder what it will feel like. You won't lose control. It's simply a state of focused relaxation, and you'll remain in control throughout.
And importantly, you don't need to arrive knowing exactly what to say, what's "wrong", or how to explain everything you're feeling.
We can work that out together.
Training, qualifications & experience
I am a qualified Solution-Focused Hypnotherapist, having trained with Clifton Practice Hypnotherapy Training (CPHT) in Bristol.
Alongside my hypnotherapy training, I hold a BSc in Criminology with Psychology, which gave me an academic foundation in psychological theory, human behaviour and the factors that can influence the way we think and behave.
My hypnotherapy training developed this further through Solution-Focused therapeutic techniques, hypnosis and an understanding of how the brain responds to stress, anxiety and repeated patterns of thinking and behaviour.
I am a registered member of the National Council for Hypnotherapy (NCH) and work in accordance with professional and ethical standards. I am also professionally insured and hold an Enhanced DBS certificate.
