About me
Hi, I’m Gemma a Registered Solution Focused Hypnotherapist from Remedy Hypnotherapy.
I am also a Registered NHS Clinician with over 12 years of experience working in the NHS and privately.
It was my work in the NHS that led me to realise that the stress of everyday life not only has a direct impact on our mental wellbeing but often manifests itself into physical symptoms and behaviours such as sleep issues/addictions/IBS/challenging relationships with food, etc!
I noticed that when people started to prioritise their mental health their physical symptoms significantly reduced and they found challenging situations easier to navigate.
Hypnotherapy is now making its way into clinical practice as the link between our physical and mental health becomes clearer and I believe that the potential benefits of hypnotherapy on both our physical and mental health should not be underestimated. Hypnotherapy can be used alongside medical or psychological support where appropriate.
I offer in person sessions at my garden clinic room in Box (in between Bath and Corsham) or on Zoom which also works really well.
I can help with issues such as
- Anxiety/Overwhelm
- Low mood/Depression
- IBS
- Weight Management and Binge Eating
- Poor Sleep
- OCD
- Confidence and Performance Improvement (public speaking, sports, stage peformance)
- Phobias
- Stopping smoking/vaping (one off 90-120 min session)

What Is Solution Focused Hypnotherapy?
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is a modern, positive approach that focuses on helping you move forward rather than analysing past problems. Instead of asking “why am I like this?”, the focus is on “how do I want to feel and what would help me get there?”
This approach is supportive, practical, and centred around your strengths helping you build the future you want, one step at a time.
How Does It Work?
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy combines two gentle but powerful elements:
- Solution-Focused Conversation
Each session begins with a relaxed, supportive conversation where we focus on your goals and what you’d like life to look like as things improve. Together, we explore small, achievable steps that help move you forward, building confidence and resilience along the way.
- Hypnosis (Guided Relaxation)
You’ll then be guided into a deeply relaxed state, similar to daydreaming or that lovely moment just before sleep. Hypnosis (also known as trance) is a natural state of mind that we experience often, for example when we are running, swimming, walking or driving a familiar route. During this time, your mind becomes calmer and more open to positive suggestions for change. Rest assured you always remain fully aware and in control.
This guided relaxation helps calm the nervous system, reduce stress, and support positive changes at a subconscious level.
- What Does Hypnosis Feel Like?
Hypnosis is a natural and deeply relaxing experience. Many people describe it as feeling similar to daydreaming or that peaceful state just before falling asleep. Your body feels calm and relaxed, while your mind remains aware and focused.
You are always in control during hypnosis and can hear everything that’s being said. It’s not about being “put under” or losing consciousness; you won’t do or say anything you don’t want to. In fact, many people are surprised by how normal and comfortable it feels.
During hypnosis, your nervous system begins to settle, helping reduce stress and tension. This calm, relaxed state allows positive suggestions to be more easily absorbed, supporting gentle and lasting change.
Most people leave sessions feeling relaxed, refreshed, and pleasantly calm, as though they’ve had a really good rest.
You will also be provided with a relaxation track to listen to at home following your initial consultation so you can create this relaxing feeling as you drift off to sleep each night.
Why Is It So Effective?
Stress and anxiety can have a huge impact on how we think, feel, and behave. Solution Focused Hypnotherapy helps lower stress levels, allowing your mind and body to return to a calmer, more balanced state. When this happens, positive change feels easier and more natural.
By working with both the conscious and subconscious mind, this approach helps you feel more in control, more confident, and better equipped to cope with whatever life throws at you.
A Positive, Supportive Approach
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is not about digging into the past or reliving difficult experiences. It’s about creating hope, building confidence, and helping you feel more like yourself again, in a calm, safe, and non-judgemental space.
How Many Sessions Will I Need?
The number of sessions needed varies from person to person however on average people have between 8-12 sessions, preferably weekly or fortnightly. Phobias generally need 4 sessions depending on the complexity. Sessions are 50-60 minutes long. Smoking/vaping cessation is a one off 90–120-minute session.
