About me

Hello, I'm Louise, a cognitive behavioural hypnotherapist.

Are you feeling anxious, overwhelmed or stuck in patterns that hold you back? Do you have insomnia or need support with conflict or anger management? At Sanguine Therapy, I specialise in supporting people with these issues, working online, in Bristol and North Somerset.

How Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy can help

My approach is grounded in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) combined with hypnotherapy, mindfulness, relaxation and conflict resolution techniques. I work with thoughts, feelings and behaviours to help identify what is keeping you stuck and to set realistic goals. We will explore tools to manage anxiety and/or sleeplessness and inner and outer conflict and build new patterns through personalised support, including hypnotherapy recordings and resources. I use a non-trance approach to hypnotherapy, which ensures you, the client, are in control and helps embed the changes we have explored together in pursuit of your goals long after therapy ends.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a Level 5 Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapist, trained by the UK College of Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy. I chose this course because it's approved by the British Psychological Society for CPD as it combines the evidence base of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy with hypnosis.  I have undertaken additional training in CBH for Insomnia. CBTi is the NHS-recommended approach to treating insomnia.

I integrate some of the modern approaches to CBT into my hypnotherapeutic work, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).  I am a trained ACT practitioner. ACT focuses on managing thoughts and feelings, rather than eliminating them, to increase psychological flexibility and will help you commit to actions aligned with your values.

I am a qualified independent mediator. This helps when working with people experiencing inner conflict or challenges in their relationships. I still work as a mediator with people experiencing conflict in their community and families.

Before training as a hypnotherapist and mediator, I worked in managerial roles in the NHS and the voluntary sector, developing services and supporting individuals through challenging times, including long-term and mental illness and end of life.

I have an MSc in Public Health, and my area of focus was around Social Prescribing - exploring how reconnecting with community helps people recover from depression and anxiety.

GHR
The General Hypnotherapy Register (GHR)

Hypnotherapists may become members of the General Hypnotherapy Register if they satisfy certain criteria with regard to both training and ongoing requirements as determined from time to time by the General Hypnotherapy Standards Council (GHSC). Members are either registered at Practitioner status (which confirms that the GHR acknowledges their qualification to practice), or Affiliate status. Although Affiliate level registrants will have completed a sufficient number of training hours to equip them to commence seeing clients on a limited basis, the GHR does not acknowledge them to have yet been trained to full practitioner level. All GHR Registered Practitioners are required to accept the published Code of Ethics and Complaints & Disciplinary Procedure.

Further information

I believe that challenging times and endings often contain the potential for new growth. I named my practice Sanguine Therapy after my maiden name, Sanguinazzi. "Sanguine" means hopeful - especially in the face of adversity. It’s a word that reflects how I try to live, and the feeling I hope to offer to the people I work with.

Nature is a big part of how I make sense of life and change, and it often finds its way into sessions - through imagery, metaphors, or simply as a grounding presence. I am hoping to offer outdoor sessions in the near future - let me know if this is of interest to you.

Outside of work, I spend as much time as I can in the countryside where I live - walking in the ancient woods behind my home, tending the garden, cooking, and spending time with family and friends. I live with my husband and two cats, and although our grown-up children have moved out, they still come and go - as grown-up children often do.
