We are all fellow strugglers and most people need a bit of therapy, but most people don't need very much, says Trevor Silvester and I believe he's right!
As a fellow struggler and therapist, I've always been curious about why we continue to do things which no longer serve us.
If you think about it, logically we know that being afraid of heights, flying and spiders is irrational, yet fears and phobias limit our lives. Many problems happen because of an unconscious decision that was made a long time ago, often in childhood. It was stored in our emotional brain to keep us safe.
Our unconscious brain is not designed to make us happy, its designed to keep us safe and alive. It thinks its doing a great job, but really it is limiting and restricting us in many ways.
What about habits? If smoking was a logical choice most people wouldn't do it. It isn't a logical choice, its an emotional response that has been stored deep in the limbic system in the unconscious brain.
Most things we do aren't our fault - It's a brain thing! The good news is that together we can understand what's going on so that we can change things.
My background is in psychotherapy and when I trained in NLP and cognitive hypnotherapy, the results were remarkable in that people were no longer spending weeks and weeks and weeks talking about their problems.
Everyone is different and the issues you have and how and why you have them, will determine the way we'll work together. Most of the time somewhere between 1 and 3 sessions is enough to shift things for you.
Quest cognitive hypnotherapy is a science based approach to making the change you want. The problems we all have, can't be completely resolved in the logical thinking part of our brain, so by accessing the emotional unconscious brain, we can remove old limiting patterns and replace them with more empowering alternatives.
What's a session like?
How you "do" your problem and the nature of it will determine how we'll work. For example some problems exist because there are conflicting parts, for example the part of you that wants the cake and the part of you that wants to be slimmer and healthier. We can work out where this conflict is, why its there and resolve the conflict to get you what you really want.
You will always be in control and you will be aware of what's going on. The idea is that I will help you find your own solution, because that way you will buy into it, I'm not imposing a solution - its all about you.
Together we'll work out how you want to feel and what you'd like to be doing instead. We'll do some work together in the session and then I'll write and record a specific and bespoke "WordWeave" (trade mark of The Quest Institute) based on what you've told me during the session. You can listen to it at home while you drift off to sleep and the new pattern becomes embedded in your unconscious so you naturally begin to think and do things in different ways.
