About me

How I can help you

I am a qualified accredited hypnotherapist, Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) practitioner and coach. Using Hypnotherapy, Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Mindfulness I can support you in making fast effective changes. Whatever your challenge, there is a solution.

I am passionate about helping people overcome challenges in their lives. I am professional, confidential and caring and here are some examples of why you might be looking for help:

  • You have anxiety or panic attacks and want to feel calm and in control.
  • You often feel stressed and want to feel more relaxed.
  • You want to stop your nerves getting the better of you when taking exams, standing on the first tee, giving a performance or an important presentation.
  • You want to quit smoking but just can’t break the habit.
  • You want to lose weight but diets just don’t work.
  • You have an addiction that you want to beat.
  • You struggle with depression and want to feel happier.
  • You are in a lot of pain and want to feel more comfortable.
  • You want to go on holiday but hate flying.
  • You have a phobia (like spiders) that you want to overcome.
  • You want to sleep better.
  • You suffer with irritable bowel syndrome and want some relief.
  • You suffer with psoriasis and want to make it better.
  • You have low self-esteem and need confidence.

These are all things that I can help with – and much more too!

How can hypnotherapy help?

While other talking therapies deal with the conscious analytical mind - the part you're using now to read this - hypnotherapy engages your subconscious. This is where all your experiences, knowledge, memories and habits are stored, even though usually you are unaware of them. Hypnotherapy helps us to confront these memories and experiences and reprocess them to a way which is more positive and helpful.

Your subconscious mind is the seat of all your emotions and is the part of your mind which controls approximately 90% of your behaviour. Your subconscious will always try to protect you and do what is best for you. It has learnt behaviours and beliefs from past experiences, often in childhood and then continues to use them throughout your life, a bit like a computer running a program. However, sometimes the subconscious mind can make a mistake, creating a connection, thought or emotion between an event and a behaviour that may have been appropriate at the time, but isn't appropriate or helpful anymore. Through hypnotherapy we can work together to change these negative thought patterns 9 which often creep in over time), beliefs and behaviours to promote healing and positive change.

Unlike the dramatic portrayals of stage hypnotism, you may see on the television, you will not be unconscious, asleep or in any way out of control of yourself. You will hear the therapist's suggestions but it is up to you to decide whether to act on them.

What happens in the first session?

Your first hypnotherapy session is very important since it lays the groundwork for all we accomplish. To help you, I need to know what you want to achieve, what you have already tried and your thoughts, fears, beliefs and other attitudes as well as other aspects of your life that may contribute to your feeling stuck. I ask questions, listening attentively and empathetically to discover what is adversely affecting your well being. Working together, we set goals to help you achieve the changes you want to make.

We will explore the process of hypnotherapy, address any myths or concerns you may have and then I will guide you into a relaxed state, clearing your mind of any stressful thoughts or 'mind chatter' and using the information you have given me, start the process of helping you achieve the changes you want to make.

How many sessions will I need?

This is, unfortunately, like asking 'how long is a piece of string'. Everyone is different and everyone's individual needs and circumstances vary.  There is no definitive answer. The average length of time is around 4-6 sessions, however, some sessions can be resolved in 1-2. Typically, most people start seeing solid change towards their goals between 2-5 sessions. I promise I will do everything I can to help provide real, lasting and sustainable change in as few a sessions as is needed. You will know when you no longer need to see me.

How often are the sessions?

Initially, the treatment is most effective if the time between sessions is between a week and ten days. Each session can then build on the successes and changes made in the previous sessions. After, reviewing the progress made, we then allow slightly longer between sessions until you feel you have made the progress that you want. If you require, I can also teach you self hypnosis methods for you to use in your daily life in the future.

Please feel free to contact me for a no obligation chat about how I can help.

Training, qualifications & experience

I trained with The Surrey Institute of Clinical Hypnotherapy. I hold a certificate and diploma in clinical hypnotherapy.

I am a member of The General Hypnotherapy Register - a body which ensures that training and practice meet necessary standards and that practitioners undertake regular supervision and further their experience and knowledge through attending CPD training.

I am accredited by The Complimentary Natural HealthCare Council (CNHC) for which I am a local champion and Professional Standards Authority. This was set up by the Government to register and regulate complimentary healthcare practitioners and protect the public. All registered practitioners must meet government standards for safe and competent practice. The General Medical Council allows doctors can only refer patients to practitioners who are registered with CNHC.

I am also Kinetic Shift practitioner - This technique is a powerful and quick technique to release negative feelings and trauma. It has recently been recognised by the Ministry of Defence for helping with PTSD.

I am an OldPain2Go practitioner - a technique to reduce or remove physical and emotional pain from M.E, Fibromyalgia, arthritis, joint pain and much more.

I am committed to continually adding to my existing skills through Continuing Professional Development in order to keep growing and be at the top of my profession.

Members are either registered at Practitioner status (which confirms that the GHR acknowledges their qualification to practice), or Affiliate status. Although Affiliate level registrants will have completed a sufficient number of training hours to equip them to commence seeing clients on a limited basis, the GHR does not acknowledge them to have yet been trained to full practitioner level.

All GHR Registered Practitioners are required to accept the published Code of Ethics and Complaints & Disciplinary Procedure.
