About me
I am a fully qualified Clinical Hypnotherapist and I trained at the Clifton Practice in Bristol which leads the way in Solution Focused Hypnotherapy training and is working to raise awareness of it's benefits across the country.
Previously, I have worked as a nurse for many years. I qualified as a Professional Coach so I draw on aspects of that within sessions; as well as using aspects of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Neuro-Linguistic Programming.
I have an interest in Mindfulness and introduce the benefits of it, including how it can help us to live in the moment in a calmer and more peaceful way. When I commenced training and understood properly how the mind works, it had an immediate effect on me and I felt calmer generally. I continue to use what I know for myself, so whatever place we are at, we are going in the same direction! I am continually thrilled at the changes that clients make and the effects on their lives.
Solution Focused Therapy
The psychotherapy which I practice is called Solution Focused therapy. This means that we focus on moving towards solutions - however tiny or big they may be - and always with you at the forefront of the session so that you feel comfortable in making changes in manageable steps. You are who you are today as a result of your previous experiences, so many unwanted habits or aspects of your past may be dealt with naturally by focusing on a preferred and better future. It is by focusing on the future that we unlearn old habits or ways of being and increase our levels of relaxation and calm.
Within the session, we are using a natural trait of your intellectual mind which is to find answers and, at times, quite creative solutions to your current issues. The relaxed and safe environment of a session can enable you to come up with answers that you may be pleasantly surprised to hear!
Your unique solutions to your current life issues can be interwoven into the hypnosis talk, using positive pictures and language to help you exchange limiting thoughts and beliefs for newer more appropriate ones which in turn can positively influence your behaviour.
The overall aim is for you to feel calm and in control with a good knowledge of how to continue in a positive way once you leave hypnotherapy.
Training, qualifications & experience
I was a qualified Nurse for many years before qualifying as a Clinical Hypnotherapist at the Clifton Practice Hypnotherapy Training school in Bristol, obtaining:
DHP - Diploma in Clinical Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy
HPD - Hypnotherapy Practitioner Diploma (externally accredited by NCFE)
I also qualified as a Professional Coach (2004) at the Coaching Academy obtaining:

Since qualifying, I have attended several training days which enable me to enhance my practice; in areas such as pain and disease, childbirth, therapeutic principles of solution focused therapy, amongst others.
I have a CRB check; liability insurance and am a member of the NCH (National Council for Hypnotherapy) and the AfSFH (Association for Solution Focused Hypnotherapy)
Member organisations
The National Council for Hypnotherapy holds one of the largest registers of independent Hypnotherapists in the United Kingdom and strives to maintain the highest standards among its members.
There is an agreed Code of Conduct, an established Complaints & Disciplinary Procedure and all members are obliged to maintain comprehensive Public Liability & Professional Indemnity Insurance, maintain regular CPD (continuing professional development) hours, and attend Supervision when needed.
The Association for Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (AfSFH) was set up to provide information about a modern form of Hypnotherapy and its associated benefits to members of the public.
